Fans of Archer have reacted to the news that the 14th and final season will air later this year.

Yesterday (May 15), the network announced its summer premiere dates – including the August 30 return of the sitcom, which will be its last series ever. The first episode of the season will release two segments starting at 10pm, with both available to stream the next day on Hulu.

Archer is an adult animated sitcom created by Adam Reed, which follows the exploits of a dysfunctional intelligence agency, led by the narcissistic womaniser Sterling Archer – voiced by H. Jon Benjamin, who also voices Bob Belcher in Bob’s Burgers.

On social media, fans of the series were surprised that the animated show wouldn’t be returning after season 14.

One person commented: “While it certainly had its rough patches as the show went on, it still remains one of the wittiest fun adult animated comedies with incredible fleshed out characters and storylines that go deep.”

“I can’t believe its over. But I’m excited to see what the final season has in store!” another person added.

Another comment read: “I was really eight-years-old when this came out now I’m 21 turning 22 at the end of the month it’s gonna be crazy to see this show go.”

Some however, were somewhat relieved – with fan one adding that it was “depressing, but the right call”.

Archer debuted on FX in 2009 and moved to FXX in 2017. The animated show has received  10 Emmy nominations with four wins, including Best Animated Series in 2016.

The cast for the show also includes Aisha Tyler, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, Amber Nash, Adam Reed, and Lucky Yates as Doctor Krieger.

Arrested Development star Jessica Walter, who voiced the character of Sterling’s mother and boss Malory Archer, passed away in her sleep in 2021. At the end of season 12, the show paid tribute to the late actress.

The tribute episode saw Malory disappearing after saving Archer and his crew, leaving only a note for her son. The final scene showed her relaxing on the beach with her husband, Ron Cadillac before he passed in 2019.

Other summer premiere dates announced by FFX on Monday included What We Do in the Shadows, which will return on July 13 with two episodes. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia   will debut its 16th season, making it the longest-running live-action comedy sitcom of all time. Meanwhile, The Bear season two is set to release all 10 episodes on Hulu on July 22.

Paul Walker’s daughter will make a cameo appearance in the upcoming Fast X film in an undisclosed role.

On Thursday (May 12), model and actress Meadow Walker took to Instagram to announce her cameo in the latest installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. “The first Fast was released when I was one year old! I grew up on set watching my father, Vin [Diesel], Jordana [Brewster], Michelle [Rodriguez], [Ludacris] and more on the monitors,” she said.

“Thanks to my dad, I was born into the Fast family. I can’t believe now I get to be up there too. With those who have been around to see me grow up,” she wrote alongside a screenshot of her appearance in the movie.

She went on to thank the film director Louis Leterrier for his “kindness, patience, and support”. “It feels like you’ve been part of the family since we started, I’m happy it’s just the beginning,” she added.

Meadow also showed gratitude to her “dads best friend who is now my best friend,” producer Brandon Birtell, saying, “This wouldn’t have been possible without you.”

“I am so blessed to be able to honor my father’s legacy and share this with him forever x. I love you all so much,” she wrote in closing.

Meadow has since spoken about being in the film while at the film’s premiere, saying the scene was “a cool way to connect” with her late father.

Following Meadow’s post on social media, franchise lead Vin Diesel revealed in an interview at the premiere of the film that he thinks Walker would be “proud” of his daughter’s involvement in the movie.

While details surrounding Meadow’s cameo in the film still remain mostly undisclosed, John Cena revealed that her scene takes place with his character, Jakob Toretto. “She did fantastic. As anyone in that situation, she might have been a little bit nervous and overwhelmed because being on camera is a little bit different,” he said, adding that he felt “honoured” to have shared that moment with her.

The late Paul Walker died in a single-vehicle collision on November 30, 2013 at 40 years old. The action saga has continuously paid tribute to the actor and his character Brian O’Conner in the ten years of his passing. Furious 7 marks Walker’s last appearance in the Fast & Furious franchise. His two brothers, Caleb and Cody, helped complete the remaining unfilmed scenes using CG technology to alter their faces.

The latest installment will see Diesel, Rodriguez, Tyrese, Ludacris, and Sung Kang reprise their roles from the previous movies. Also appearing in the film are newcomers Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and Rita Moreno, who plays the Diesel’s onscreen grandmother.

Last week, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez revealed in an interview that Fast X could be the first entry in the franchise’s closing trilogy. “Going into making this movie, the studio asked if this could be a two-parter,” Diesel told Variety. “And after the studio saw this one, they said, ‘Could you make Fast X the finale, a trilogy?’”

Fast X will be released in cinemas on May 19.

‘John Wick’ director wants to cast Cillian Murphy in spin-off film

“I just think Cillian would fit right in,” he said of the ‘Peaky Blinders’ star

Director Chad Stahleski has revealed that he wants to cast Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy for a spin-off film in the John Wick universe.

The fourth instalment of the action movie was released back in March, and despite the shocking ending, Stahleski is scouting his next cast for a fifth movie.

The John Wick franchise is also expanding with two spin-off projects underway. Ana de Armas is set to star in Ballerina, the first sequel film of the John Wick franchise, which will be released in 2024. In addition, the prequel show The Continental recently shared the trailer for the three-event series ahead of its September 2023 release.

In an interview with The Direct, Stahleski revealed some of the actors he is interested in collaborating with. “There’s a huge list, but just the first thing that came to mindset was Cillian Murphy,” he said. “I’m a big Peaky Blinders fan. So, you know, I just think Cillian would fit right in.”

He continued: “Colin Farrell is fantastic. Charlize Theron when she did Atomic Blonde, I saw that went, ‘Oh my God, I gotta work with this woman. She’s awesome. I worked with Michelle Yeoh way back on a commercial years ago, and I’ve been dying to work with her ever since. I’m such a huge fan.”

The John Wick franchise has previously added guest stars in their films, including Ruby Rose and Common in John Wick: Chapter 2 and Halle Berry in the third movie

Stahleski is still determining if the franchise will release a fifth instalment, but the film director said he is interested in casting actors that he grew to become a fan of overtime.

“There’s a lot, I mean, there are so many great people out there, man,” he said. “If Robert Downey happened to sit in my chair right here, I’d figure that one out. Peter Dinklage, I was a huge fan of his in Game of Thrones. Sean Bean. Some of those guys I think are magical. I’d die for a chance with any of those people.”

Meanwhile, Murphy is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The full trailer was shared earlier this week, with the movie released in cinemas on July 23. Murphy has spoken of how he was “desperate” to appear in the movie, while Nolan shared some insight on his decision not to cast Murphy as Batman when they worked together on The Dark Knight trilogy.

In Peaky Blinders news, The Party actor has given fans an update on the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie – revealing that the script was “close” to being finished.

Pedro Pascal reportedly set to star in Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ sequel

He’ll reportedly be joining Paul Mescal in the follow-up to the blockbuster epic

Pedro Pascal will reportedly join Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel – which is set for release next year.

According to DeadlineThe Last of Us and Mandalorian star will join the previously reported Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, Denzel Washington, and a returning Connie Nielsen. Pascal’s role is currently unknown.

The story will follow Lucius (Mescal) – the son of Lucilla (Neilson) and Maximus (previously played by Russell Crowe) – and the nephew of Emperor Commodus, who Joaquin Phoenix played in the first film. The official plot of the movie is currently being kept under wraps.

The sequel follows the 2000 award-winning film, which grossed over $500million worldwide at the box office and won five Oscars, including Best Picture.

The original movie saw Crowe star as Maximus, the Roman general turned warrior, with the role winning the star his first academy award for Best Actor. He will not be “involved in the follow-up film, with his character having died in the previous Gladiator.

“It’s an extension of the narrative, but it is long beyond Maximus’ passing, so it doesn’t really involve me at all,” the actor revealed on The Ryan Turbidy Show. Although, he did say that he was “slightly jealous” that he is not apart of the upcoming sequel.

The new Gladiator sequel is set to be released in cinemas on November 22, 2024. Back in 2013, Nick Cave spoke of how his own screenplay for a Gladiator sequel didn’t make if off the ground, adding that he “knew on every level that it was never going to get made,” although he thought it was “a stone-cold masterpiece.”

Meanwhile, Pascal recently admitted that he nearly quit his acting career after experiencing years of rejection.

In an interview released last month, the 48-year-old provided insight into his constant struggle to make a living as an actor and explained how he was close to calling it quits before acquiring some of his most prominent roles.

“I was getting my ass fucking kicked,” he told Esquire, discussing his time working as a waiter throughout the 1990s. At the time, he auditioned for numerous TV show roles and commercials, although few materialised.

“I died so many deaths,” he added. “I guess [this] delusional self-determination, and no real skill at anything else, is what kept me going.”

Pascal is also set to star in Ethan Cohen’s new comedy Drive Away Dolls alongside Matt Damon.

Steven Spielberg says it was a “mistake” editing guns out of ‘E.T.’

“No film should be revised based on the lenses we now are”

The post Steven Spielberg says it was a “mistake” editing guns out of ‘E.T.’ appeared first on NME.

Steven Spielberg has said that he regrets editing out guns from the 1980s classic film E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

The science fiction film premiered in 1982, and follows an alien who was left behind on Earth after the rest of his family were chased away by US government vehicles. During his stay, he met a 10-year-old boy who sheltered him and promised to keep him safe until he returned home.

Speaking at the New York Times 100 Summit on Tuesday (April 25) the iconic director made remarks regarding editing a scene to feature federal agents holding walkie-talkies instead of guns when they were chasing the children for the 20th anniversary special edition of the film. .

Spielberg explained why he initially thought removing the weapons was a great idea, but he realised later that it “was a mistake”.

“I never should have done that,” Spielberg said. “E.T. is a product of its era. No film should be revised based on the lenses we now are, either voluntarily, or being forced to peer through.”

He continued: “E.T. was a film that I was sensitive to the fact that the federal agents were approaching kids with firearms exposed and I thought I would change the guns into walkie-talkies. Years went by and I changed my own views.”

Throughout the years, Spielberg has often spoken of how he regretted adjusting the film to conform to more current societal norms.

“I should have never messed with the archives of my own work, and I don’t recommend anyone do that,” Spielberg said during the event. “All our movies are a kind of a signpost of where we were when we made them, what the world was like and what the world was receiving when we got those stories out there. So I really regret having that out there.”

Spielberg is responsible for blockbuster films and franchises – including Indiana Jones, The Goonies, Poltergeist, Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park, Jaws and many more.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial grossed $792.9million at the box office, and earned four Oscars, five Saturn Awards and two Golden Globe Awards.

Meanwhile, Spielberg recently said E.T. was a “pretty perfect” movie, in an interview on The Late Late Show With Steven Colbert.

“Sometimes I see things that I had intended to do that I didn’t do, and sometimes I see things that would have been a better idea than what I’m now seeing all these years later – but for the most part, E.T. is a pretty perfect movie.”

Earlier this week, Spielberg also shared his reaction after seeing Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny for the first time.

The upcoming fifth instalment is the first entry in the franchise not directed by Spielberg, who instead serves as an executive producer. James Mangold, who previously helmed Logan and Ford v Ferrari, takes up the role of director on the sequel.

Chris Evans says hosting SNL would give him “anxiety”

“It would provide a lot of sleepless nights for me”

The post Chris Evans says hosting SNL would give him “anxiety” appeared first on NME.

NME

Chris Evans has revealed that hosting Saturday Night Live would immediately give him “anxiety” and that he has “avoided” the opportunity.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor was alongside his co-star Ana de Armas discussing their new film Ghosted. The conversation was introduced as the Blonde actress shared that she would be hosting SNL herself.

When Evans was asked about a potential future appearance on the comedy sketch series, the Captain America actor said he would much rather make a small cameo than host the show.

“Well, now a cameo I can handle,” Evans replied. “I’ve avoided hosting SNL like the plague for years now just because I’m so scared. It’s terrifying to me.”

The Avengers actor is no stranger to comedy, as his breakout role was in the 2001 satire film Not Another Teen Movie, where he played the school jock. However, he said he believes the show would give him “a lot of sleepless nights”.

“A cameo sounds great — that’s perfect,” Evans said. “But hosting, I tip my hat to her. She’s going to be amazing. But it would provide a lot of sleepless nights for me.”

He continued: “Maybe I only feel that because I have very, very funny friends who once told me I’m not a funny person. It would just be an everyday anxiety, constant regret: ‘Why did I do this? I could have been comfortable at my house, in my bed, not worrying about this.’”

The rom-com Ghosted follows Cole (Evans) and Sadie (de Armas) as they bond during a date before realising there’s a lot they don’t know about each other, considering that Sadie is a secret agent. The film premieres on Apple TV+ today (April 21).

Meanwhile, Armas has defended her depiction of Marilyn Monroe in the controversial Netflix biopic, Blonde.

The actress faced her share of criticism when it came to being cast in the role, but the movie itself has been widely panned by many critics. One of its more generous reviews came from NME, which praised the film for being “less a Marilyn Monroe biopic, more an effective psychological horror”.

Armas herself has now hit back at those who took up swords against the film – and herself. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the Knives Out actor said the biopic was not supposed to “please people”.

The post Third and final season of ‘Stars Wars: The Bad Batch’ details revealed appeared first on NME.

NME

Disney+’s Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s third and final season is set to return on the streaming service next year, the show producers claim.

The series follows the story of Clone Force 99, a group of well-trained clones also known as the Bad Batch, as they make their way through an ever-changing galaxy during the aftermath of the Clone Wars.

The announcement was shared over the weekend during the annual Star Wars Celebration panel discussion in London by the show’s executive producers, Athena Portillo, Jennifer Corbett, and Brad Rau.

The annual event is a platform for the franchise to announce new releases as well as connect the cast and crew with their fans. During the event, the production team also announced several upcoming projects – including that a Return of the Jedi will be returning to cinemas this month to mark its 40th anniversary, with Star Wars fans also introduced to cast members from Disney+’s upcoming series, Acolyte and Ahsoka.

Following the panel event, the Star Wars verified Twitter account shared the news with their fans, captioning the photo: “Just announced at #StarWarsCelebration: Star Wars The Bad Batch will return for a third and final season on @DisneyPlus in 2024.”

In response to the news, many users were distraught to learn that the final season is near, and that there would  be no more new episodes to stream.

One user commented: “Damn, the final season? Hopefully it ends with a bang.”

Another user added: “Was so happy to see it get another season.. .then I read final.”

“Sad to see it be the final season but am happy it’s getting a third. I absolutely love Bad Batch and I’m just excited to see where it goes from here. #YesSWC2023” another user said. See more responses below.

Star Wars: Bad Batch season three is currently in production, but an official release date is yet to be announced.

In other Star Wars news, fans of The Mandalorian have criticised the ongoing season of the show, labelling it as experiencing “a massive drop in quality”.

Currently, the series is more than three-quarters of the way through its third season, and has been on the receiving end of backlash as critics and fans alike deem the episodes as being the weakest yet.

Since the new season launched, user review scores have consistently plummeted and fans have taken to social media to discuss the “quality decline” in the plot – with audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes dropping from an average of 90 per cent to around 50 per cent since season three began.

Ti West’s ‘X’ and ‘Pearl’ follow-up film ‘MaXXXine’ begins filming

Mia Goth said it has “the best script of the three by far”

Filming has started for for the third instalment of Ti West’s X trilogy MaXXXine, the production company has revealed.

The A24 slasher is a sequel to West’s films and Pearl, which were released last year and are currently streaming on Hulu, Apple TV, and Roku.

The film will take place in the 1980s, as Mia Goth reprises her role as survivor Maxine Minx – a burlesque dancer and adult film actress who had goals of being a star in Hollywood, after the horrific events from the 2022 film.

Starring alongside the Emma actress will be Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon. It was also recently revealed that singer-songwriter Halsey also has a major role.

The announcement was shared on A24 verified Twitter account captioned: “Day 1 #MaXXXine”

In an interview with Variety, Goth described the upcoming film as having “the best script of the three by far”.

“It’s going be the best movie of the three,” she said. “It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”

Last year, West shared the teaser for MaXXXine during the Toronto International Film Festival and told Bloody Disgusting that the film will explore the success of VHS.

“What I can tell you is that we’re going to catch up with Maxine. And we’re going to find out what she’s up to,” he said.

“The way that X is a movie that is informed by and affected by independent exploitation auteur Americana and 1970s cinema, and Pearl is perhaps affected by the Golden Age of Hollywood and the glitz and glamor of cinema, MaXXXine will be more about within the industry itself and the boom of VHS.”

In a five-star review of Pearl NME wrote: “Mixing comedy and tragedy with an edge of something genuinely unsettling (as well as nailing an uncut six-minute monologue, and even more unforgettable final shot), Goth’s Oscar snub feels like horror’s biggest slap in the face yet.”

Meanwhile, last year Martin Scorese revealed that he was “enthralled” by West’s prequel film, Pearl, and said he “couldn’t stop watching it.”

Matthew McConaughey is getting his own ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off

However, it could be without Kevin Costner

The post Matthew McConaughey is getting his own ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off appeared first on NME.

NME

Matthew McConaughey has been confirmed for his own spin-off series for the hit franchise Yellowstone – but possibly without Kevin Costner.

Created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, the series follows the Dutton family (owners of the Yellowstone Dutton ranch) and the conflicts they face from groups along their shared borders – including an Indian reservation, a cattle ranch and land developers.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount CEO Chris McCarthy said that McConaughey (Interstellar) is prepared to star in a new extension series within the Yellowstone universe. Costner (The Bodyguard), who plays the lead John Dutton, the patriarch of the Dutton family, is rumoured to be departing from the franchise.

While McCarthy said he didn’t have any updates regarding the Dances with Wolves actor’s future on Yellowstone, he told the outlet that the Western, “wouldn’t be what it is today without Kevin, and we hope that that stays for a long time to come.”

The CEO also revealed that McConaughey’s upcoming series is one of more than 10 projects in development with the show’s creator.

Sheridan has two made spin-off prequel series thus far, including 1883 and 1923.

Early this year, Deadline reported that the Interstellar actor had revealed that he will be leading the Yellowstone franchise extension as the series will be coming to an end shortly due to Costner’s scheduling conflicts.

Costner, who is also a producer on the show, reportedly wanted to reduce his screen time. According to Deadline, The Hidden Figures actor only wanted to film the first half of the season for 50 days, rather than the 65 he agreed to.

Costner is currently directing, producing, and writing the upcoming film Horizon. However, the actor’s lawyer, Marty Singer, debunked rumours regarding his client’s attendance on set.

Singer told Fox Digital: “The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie.”

He continued: “It’s ridiculous, and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second. As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”

The second half of season five is set to return this summer. The spin-off series 1923, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, was renewed for season two early this year.

Meanwhile, McConaughey is also the voice of Elvis Presley in the new animated series Agent Elvis on Netflix.
