Lucasfilm Games has announced that the next-generation version of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will arrive this summer.

It was confirmed in a new Star Wars blog post, in celebration of the annual Star Wars Day (May 4), Respawn Entertainment‘s 2019 action-adventure game will receive a next-generation upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

“Coming this summer, we’re excited to announce the nextgen release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, bringing a number of technical improvements to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles versions of the game,” the blog post said.

This version will be a free cross-generation upgrade to current console owners of Jedi: Fallen Order.

EA is also offering up to 70 per cent off the Standard and Deluxe Editions from now until May 12 for PS4, Xbox One, Origin, and Steam.

In January, a free update for Jedi: Fallen Order was released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, which saw the game receive next-gen enhancements. The new patch introduced higher resolutions and frame-rates for the next-gen systems, as well as an increase in performance.

The game originally launched for PC, PS4, and Xbox One but is playable through backwards compatibility on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Electronic Arts revealed last year that it plans to double down on Star Wars games following the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Battlefront II.

PC will also support ultrawide, super ultrawide screens and more

Microsoft has announced that Halo Infinite will support multiplayer cross-play and cross-progression when it releases later this year.

Speaking in a new Xbox Wire, Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, shared the news and confirmed that both PC and Xbox players will be able to play Halo Infinite together.

“We’ve talked often about our “player-first” approach to gaming over the last few years,” he said.

“In the past, that may have meant different things to different people, especially for those who identified strongly with being a console gamer, a PC gamer, or a mobile gamer.”

He continued: “A big part of our role as a platform holder and game publisher is to connect players with games no matter where they play.”

Over the past 18 months, Microsoft has launched multiple games on PC, including Age of Empires II, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Minecraft Dungeons. The Xbox Game Studios head confirmed that the company will continue to deliver more PC content, whether the games are from established franchises or not.

“We know many of you play across more than just your PC, including on Xbox and mobile. That’s why we’re excited to announce Halo Infinite will support multiplayer cross-play and cross-progression when it releases later this year,” Booty said.

Subsequently, players who own Halo Infinite on PC will be able to play with friends on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Further, it also allows multiplayer customization and progress will follow players across all platforms.

Booty also shared that Halo‘s PC version will support ultrawide and super ultrawide screens, triple keybinds, as well as a variety of advanced graphics options and more.

Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries recently promised that the game will receive monthly updates after it launches.

‘League of Legends’ fan game shut down by Riot Games

Chronoshift had been in development for five years

The post ‘League of Legends’ fan game shut down by Riot Games appeared first on NME.

NME

Riot Games has reportedly shut down a League of Legends fan game, after its creators said the company tried to “extort” them.

Chronoshift, the fan game which had been in development for five years, was a “legacy server” that would allow players to play the 10-year-old version of League of Legends.

In 2020, Riot replied to the announcement for Chronoshift and said: “Hijacking to say please don’t do this. We have very simple and easy to read policies around developing products around Riot Games. Please read the Legal Jibber Jabber (yes that’s what it’s called) and the policies on developer.riotgames.com.”

The development of Chronoshift went ahead despite the warning from Riot. However, the ChronoshiftDev Reddit account posted a message last weekend (April 24) saying the developers had been contacted by Riot’s security department who “tried to extort us into handing over our code and website to them.”

Speaking with PC Gamer, Riot Games confirmed that it has sent a cease-and-desist request to the Chronoshift developers, following a published exchange with a Riot employee on Reddit where there were claims of extortion.

The Reddit post shows a Discord conversation between a supposed Riot employee named Zed and a Chronoshift developer, during which Zed wrote that the company’s legal team “isn’t super thrilled about your project unfortunately and is looking for a way to come to a mutually acceptable end to it.”

The conversation proceeds where Zed implies that Riot Games is watching the Chronoshift team’s actions and then demands the team hand over the chronoshift.dev website, source code, and all identifiable information that had been shared with other developers.

“Give me what I’m looking for and we won’t sue. Refuse and we will,” they said. “I’m not interested in dragging this out. If you feel you’d like to speak to legal representation you are certainly capable of doing so. I’m on the security team. I find people and things.

“I don’t practice law and have little/nothing to do with any legal proceedings Riot is involved in. We can come to an agreement to end this today or we can both hand this off to counsel. To be honest I don’t care either way.”

Following the posting of this conversation, Riot confirmed that the studio’s legal team sent a letter to the Chronoshift developers formally requesting the ceasing of development.

“Our stance on projects such as Chronoshift is also explicitly called out in section 3 of our legal guidelines,” the rep said. “We understand the Chronoshift team is disappointed, but they shouldn’t be surprised by our request.”

Riot also confirmed that the Discord conversation with Zed did take place and is “disappointed with the tenor of the conversation”.

The cease-and-desist letter sent to the Chronoshift developers says its intellectual properties are “extremely valuable, and thus Riot takes this matter very seriously.” It also demands a halt of all development, the closure of the server, removal of related materials from social media, and the handover of all software related to the project.

The Chronoshift team has since complied with the demands but has stated that it is not happy about it on its website.

‘Hearthstone’ Patch 20.2 will introduce pre-built decks

Along with a Battlegrounds update

The post ‘Hearthstone’ Patch 20.2 will introduce pre-built decks appeared first on NME.

NME

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that its free-to-play online card game, Hearthstone, will receive pre-built decks in the next patch.

Patch 20.2, which is set to release on May 4, will introduce Battle-Ready Decks, an experimental form of deck that is meant for new and returning players who wish to play a particular class in the game.

In the patch notes, Blizzard said: “For the first time ever, we’ll be offering curated decks optimized for the most recent expansion through the web and in-game shops.

“When these Battle-Ready Decks become available, you’ll be able to add a complete deck from the class of your choice to your permanent Collection.”

According to Blizzard, each Battle-Ready Deck is handcrafted using data captured across “hundreds of thousands of play sessions” to ensure players will obtain a good deck.

It’s been revealed that Battle-Ready Decks will be available for three weeks for $19.99 (£14) when it becomes listed on the store and will be limited to one per player account.

Along with a new deck type, Blizzard also revealed a preview of the next major Hearthstone Battlegrounds update called Quilboar.

The Quilboar update will include the new Quilboar minion type, 17 new minions, three new heroes, as well as a new mechanic called Blood Gems a spell that gives a friendly minion a buff of +1/+1.

With the Battlegrounds update, Quilboar will show up in every match until the next major content patch, just like the previous additions.

Elsewhere, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan recently announced that he will be leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 years.

‘Humankind’ offers first four eras to play in latest OpenDev

Players who pre-purchased have until May 3 to experience the latest OpenDev

The post ‘Humankind’ offers first four eras to play in latest OpenDev appeared first on NME.

Amplitude Studios has announced that players who pre-purchased Humankind can now access the Victor OpenDev and play 150 turns ahead of its release.

Humankind is an upcoming historical 4X strategy game where the player combines cultures throughout six different eras to become the most famous empire in history.

Amplitude recently announced that Humankind would be arriving April 22, but it has since been delayed until August 17. According to the developer, many players reached out and asked if they could have an opportunity to play again between now and the release.

From April 22 through May 3 to 2pm BST, any player who has pre-purchased Humankind on Steam or the Epic Games Store can access the Victor OpenDev, a collaboratory open-source software, and play as Victor Hugo’s avatar from the Neolithic to the Early Modern era or 150 turns.

With the new OpenDev scenario, players will be playing on a new fixed map with lots of water, so things will be more focused on naval gameplay. Amplitude has taken player feedback since releasing Lucy OpenDev in December last year, and integrated changes to the newest scenario for players to experience.

Players can also take a look at what’s in store for the Victor OpenDev with a brand new trailer, featuring a sneak peek at the exclusive map and streamer avatars.

Amplitude also released a ‘getting started’ clip which helps guide new players through the first four eras of the game.

Elsewhere, Age Of Empires IV’s developer has revealed details about the upcoming campaigns and civilisations.

PlayStation Plus Video Pass launched as a testing service in Poland

It gives users access to over 20 movies and TV shows from Sony Pictures

The post PlayStation Plus Video Pass launched as a testing service in Poland appeared first on NME.

NME

Sony has confirmed that the recently leaked PlayStation Plus Video Pass is a testing service launching today (April 22), exclusive to Poland.

The confirmation comes from Spider’s Web (translated by VGC) where Sony Interactive Entertainment’s global services VP, Nick Maguire shared the intentions of the leaked service.

He said: “We want to see how players will benefit from such a service. What titles do they watch, what do they care about, how often do they use them?”

Maguire went on to say: “At this stage, however, I cannot say whether it will be created and what the test process will look like for other markets, as well as what the future is for PlayStation Plus Video Pass after the test period.

“We are currently focusing only on the Polish market, on Polish players and what will be their reaction to the additional benefit under the PS Plus program.”

Maquire said the reasoning behind the Poland exclusivity is based on the large percentage of players from that country that would generate specific data.

The PlayStation Plus Video Pass was leaked yesterday (April 21) and was thought to be a competitor to Microsoft‘s Xbox Game Pass. Recently it was reported that Sony is working on a “counterpunch” to the Xbox Game Pass, however, it seems that the new service is something else entirely.

Meanwhile, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has also today confirmed that PlayStation is investing in more exclusive titles, saying that the company has been “quietly but steadily investing in high-quality games for PlayStation”.

Sony CEO Jim Ryan confirms PlayStation is investing in more exclusives

The PS5 will reportedly have more exclusive games than previous systems

The post Sony CEO Jim Ryan confirms PlayStation is investing in more exclusives appeared first on NME.

NME

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has said that the company has been investing in more PlayStation exclusive games.

In a new interview with Nikkei (translated by VGC) the CEO confirmed that the company has been “quietly but steadily investing in high-quality games for PlayStation” and will make sure that the PS5 generation will have more “dedicated” software than ever before.

“We have repeatedly engaged in mergers and acquisitions, including Insomniac Games in the US. We will not rule out that option in the future,” Ryan said.

The PlayStation boss also commented on the recent situation regarding the closing of Sony’s oldest first-party studio, Sony Japan Studio, stating that it’s important for the company to “provide software that fits the Japanese gaming community” as well as saying that the “PS5 has included a lot of software from Japanese developers since its early stages”.

He added: “We will continue to strengthen our ties with Japanese developers and release content for PS5 that fits the Japanese market.”

Since the PS5 launched last year, supply on the next-generation console has been hard to come by in the market. Ryan said that PS5 supply during the COVID-19 pandemic was “very complicated” and Sony had to limit distribution to online services.

However, he also confirmed that the company is asking suppliers to allow an increase in production which will flow into the market this year.

In March, the CEO confirmed that more PlayStation games will release on PC starting with Days Gone this spring.
