Naughty Dog has announced that its The Last Of Us multiplayer game has been delayed but confirms a new single-player experience is in development.

On May 26, Naughty Dog shared a statement on Twitter which confirmed that its upcoming multiplayer game set in The Last Of Us universe is delayed and that it would be taking more time for development.

“We know many of you have been looking forwards to hearing more about our The Last Of Us multiplayer game,” Naughty Dog said. “We’re incredibly proud of the job our studio has done this far, but as development has continued, we’ve realized what is best for the game is to give it more time.”

Naughty Dog went on today that the team will continue to work on the project, “as well as our other games in development, including a brand new single-player experience”.

The developer noted that it’s looking forward to sharing more about the mystery single-player game soon and thanks fans for their continued support.

Currently, there are no details as to what the single-player experience will be, but many fans are already speculating. It’s a possibility that the next game will be The Last Of Us Part 3, or an entirely new property.

Following the announcement, Bloomberg published a report suggesting that the multiplayer game has been scaled back, claiming “A small group remains on the project while the company reevaluates the direction. A small group remains on the project while the company reevaluates the direction.” It seems the Naughty Dog statement was released in advance of the Bloomberg report.

The Last Of Us multiplayer game was announced in 2022 with a piece of concept art teasing what’s to come. The developer went on to release another in February, which provided some additional clues for the “ambitious” title.

‘Minecraft’ Trails and Tales update launches on June 7

The major update will introduce the archeology mechanic

Mojang Studios has announced that Minecraft‘s upcoming 1.20 Trails and Tales update will release on June 7.

The developer shared details about update 1.20 back in October but has officially confirmed the release date, stating that all players can download the major patch next month for free across all platforms.

A new blog post provides more information, where Mojang dived into the specifics. Trails and Tales will introduce camel, which can allow two riders at once, as well as the adorable “gentle giant” sniffer — which the community voted for firing Minecraft Live 2022.

Two new sets of wood will also be available to harvest for building and crafting purposes, including bamboo and cherry. The cherry trees can be found in Minecraft‘s brand-new biome, in the cherry grove.

Probably the most notable features of the update is the introduction of the archeology mechanic, which will allow players to harvest materials in sand so they can find buried ruins. They’ll be able to use the new brush tool to uncover treasures in “suspicious sand” and “suspicious gravel” blocks as well. Players can uncover other useful tools, sniffer eggs that can be hatched, or pottery pieces that can be put together.

Additionally, Trails of Tales will add a new customization option called armor trims. These can be found across the land of Minecraft while exploring and each piece can be dyed in one of ten colours; players can then add them to their armor or smithing table to be added to their collection.

For the full breakdown of updates — including quality-of-life changes coming to Minecraft — you can check out the blog post above.

Enad Global 7 has announced that it will be closing down Antimatter Games, the studio behind Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, this summer.

The announcement was made today (May 26) with the parent company confirming the closure as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve higher predictability and profitability. It explained that the decision was made “after exploring various strategic options” and the closure will “likely take place during this summer” (via PCGamer).

“The Group evaluated various strategic options for AMG, including work-for-hire (WFH), studio sale, and third-party publishing partnerships for IGI., the title AMG has been developing over the last few years,” Enad Global 7 said.

“However, these efforts have not produced sufficient traction within the Group’s target timeline. As a result, the Board has made the decision to limit further investment and move towards closing the studio.”

Rising Storm was developed by Tripwire Interactive, but Antimatter Games took over as lead for the Rising Storm 2: Vietnam

Antimatter Games is currently working on the 1980 Cold War shooter I.G.I Origins, which says is “coming soon” on the Steam store page. However, Enad Global 7 didn’t offer any information about the ongoing project, so it’s unclear at this time whether the game will be cancelled.

I.G.I Origins was announced in 2019 and is the prequel to 2000’s Project I.G.I. Development updates have been quiet, but it’s likely Antimatter will release a statement following the news of its closure.

‘Alan Wake 2’ could get a physical edition

THQ Nordic, the original publisher of Alan Wake, has said it’s interested in releasing a physical edition for the upcoming sequel.

Earlier this week (May 24), it was announced that Alan Wake 2 will launch on October 17 for PlayStation 5Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store. However, following the news, Remedy Entertainment shared that the game wouldn’t have physical editions and will be a digital-only release on all platforms.

Today (May 26) THQ Nordic, who published the PC version of Alan Wake in 2012, suggested that it would be up for doing the same for the sequel (via PCGamer).

“I mean… we did the disc version of Alan Wake for PC back in the day ICYMI [in case you missed it]” THQ Nordic said on Twitter. “And just because ONE person (or company) does not love physical, there is plenty who still do. Give it some thought. We’d love to go at it again! Full circle and all.”

PCGamer reported that the publisher confirmed this to be a serious offer in an email from THQ Nordic’s head of PR, Florian Emmerich, who said, “Obviously, a tweet ain’t no official business proposal, but we’re totally down to chat with Remedy about getting a physical copy of Alan Wake 2 out there. The first game was really awesome, and we’re expecting nothing short of that with the sequel.”
Remedy explained its reasoning for its digital-only release of Alan Wake 2, saying “a large number” of players “have shifted to digital only”: “You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only.”
Alan Wake 2 will have two digital versions at launch — a standard edition costing £39.99, and a deluxe edition at £54.99.

Football player Erling Haaland plays ‘Minecraft’ to relax

Initially, the footballer wouldn’t reveal the game he plays, saying it was “too embarassing”

Manchester City football player Erling Haaland has revealed that he plays Minecraft to relax after games.

In a recent post-match interview following his record-breaking Premier League game — where he scored the most goals in a single season against West Ham United — the footballer was asked about his mindset and mentioned that he likes to wind down with video games (via PCGamer).

“I don’t think of this,” said Haaland. “I sleep tonight and then I think about three points against Leeds. I will go home now and play some video games and then sleep.” When asked what the video game was, he wouldn’t answer, saying it was “too embarrassing.”

There was speculation after Haaland’s interview as to what video game he plays, with some fans suggesting World Of Warcraft and FIFA.

But the Manchester City player has finally come clean, revealing on his Instagram story that the game is actually Minecraft.

The photo shows Haaland at level 29 in a party with some friends, all geared up with full diamond armour, about to enter the End portal to fight the game’s final boss — the Ender Dragon — with the caption “#Squad”.

It’s clear that the football player and his friends have been playing the survival game for a while since it takes a lot of effort to get to the point of confronting the final boss.

The announcement was made on Twitter last night (May 25), where the developer confirmed that Homeworld 3 will now launch in February 2024, instead of this year.

“Our primary goal is to deliver a Homeworld experience that lives up to the standards set by its predecessors and is worthy of this series’ incredible legacy,” said Blackbird.

Blackbird clarified in an FAQ (via PCGamer) that the reason for the delay isn’t due to a specific issue but that the team want to take the extra time to live up to the “iconic” standards of the previous games.

“This work takes time, especially when we are raising the bar on what players will experience in the Homeworld universe,” the developer explained.

It also emphasised that it plans on delivering the promises it has already made for the sci-fi game, saying, “In fact, the team is able to achieve as much if not more when given the additional personal time. Being able to draw inspiration from time spent with family and friends and on personal hobbies has fueled a lot of the innovations we can’t wait to show off in the lead up to launch.”

Night in the Woods co-creators Bethany Hockenberry and Scott Benson have announced their game Revenant Hill.

Revenant Hill is the first project from Hockenberry and Benson’s new studio The Glory Society and was unveiled during the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase last night (May 24).

The game is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and looks quite similar to 2017’s Night in the Woods while the game’s cat protagonist — Twigs — also looks a lot like Mae. The announcement trailer can be viewed below:

A new PlayStation blog post offers more details, including a plot description.

“The year is 1919. After the barn he was living in burns down, Twigs the cat takes up residence in a wet log near an abandoned graveyard,” it reads. “When the owl from the next hill over starts demanding rent, Twigs must find a way to make ends meet, and things just get more complicated from there.”

Players will be able to grow crops to sell at the secret market or use for their own purposes, watch the seasons pass, make friends with other characters who will eventually become like family, and even make enemies. Twigs can also host “increasingly ambitious parties for witches and demons” as they get “tangled up in a world in the midst of violent change.”

One of the main features will find the player eventually working their way up the ladder towards their dream job of being “a fully licensed familiar”.

The Glory Society is a small team of both seasoned and new game developers. Hockenberry and Benson are working as writers and narrative designers on Revenant Hill, while Benson doubles as the creative director and Hockenberry, a researcher.

An official release date has yet to be confirmed.

The official gameplay reveal trailer was shared last night during the PlayStation Showcase (May 24), confirming that the game will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store later this year.

The upcoming sequel will feature the return of horror novelist Alan Wake, but will also feature a second playable protagonist — FBI agent Saga Anderson. The official trailer can be watched below:

In Alan Wake 2, Anderson will be investigating a string of ritualistic murders in the town of Bright Falls, but will soon fall into a nightmare when she discovers pages of a horror story that start to come to life. “Somehow the events seem to lead to Alan Wake, the horror writer who went missing 13 years ago,” the plot description reads.

Players will experience two “separate dark and disturbing paths” as they take control of Wake and Anderson.

Following the announcement, Remedy Entertainment confirmed that Alan Wake 2 wouldn’t have physical editions and will be a digital-only release on all platforms.

The FAQ (via Eurogamer) reads that there are “currently no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc”. Remedy explained further, saying “a large number” of players “have shifted to digital only.
