Avant-garde metal firebrands Avatar are back with their seventh album, ‘Avatar Country’.
This royalty-themed release features plenty of the usual theatrics and bombast from the Gothenburg quintet, but with stronger songwriting to shore up their conceptual side. The country-rock inspired ‘The King Welcomes You To Avatar Country’ strolls in from left field as one of the most interesting tracks on the album, while ‘A Statue Of The King’ fuses brilliant riffage and extremely theatrical vocal lines. The pageantry of this record is pretty unique, and while it may be too strange to attract that many new listeners, existing fans should be pleased.
