The distributors of Parasite have responded to Donald Trump after the US President hit out at the Oscars for awarding the film Best Picture.
The acclaimed movie, directed by Bong Joon-ho, made history earlier this month by becoming the first film not in English to win Best Picture. The darkly funny social satire also won awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film.
Addressing a rally in Colorado last night (February 20), Trump asked the crowd “how bad were the Academy Awards this year?” — a question that was met with a chorus of boos.
“And the winner is: a movie from South Korea. What the hell was all that about?” Trump continued. “We got enough problems with South Korea, on trade, and on top of it they give it the best movie of the year. Was it good?”

“Let’s get Gone with the Wind… Can we get Gone with the Wind back, please? Sunset Boulevard. So many great movies.”
Gone With The Wind was released in 1939 and starred Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara, the daughter of a plantation owner in the Deep South. While it won Best Picture at the Oscars in 1940, the film has subsequently faced criticism for its depiction of slavery and its liberal use of racist slurs.
Trump later added: “I thought it was best foreign film, right? Best foreign movie. No. Did this ever happen before.”
Neon, the studio that produced Parasite, quickly responded to Trump’s dig on Twitter, writing: “Understandable, he can’t read.”

Elsewhere, Parasite director Bong Joon-ho recently revealed that he received a letter from Martin Scorsese following Parasite‘s huge success at this year’s Oscars.
Last week, it was reported that Tilda Swinton is set to star in a TV spin-off of Parasite.
