Jamie xx and The Avalanches’ one-off climate change benefit concert in Sydney has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns.

The event, named ‘No Coal Zone’, was due to take place tomorrow (March 14) at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion. A new date for the concert has yet to be announced.

“Out of caution for current public health concerns, travel restrictions and logistics No Coal Zone is postponing tomorrow’s event set to take place in Sydney,” event organisers said in a statement, per MusicFeeds.

“This was an extremely difficult decision, but the well-being of ticket holders, staff and artists is paramount. Rescheduled dates for the show will be announced soon.”

Punters should keep their tickets as they will be honoured on another date, organisers said. “Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to RAVING with you to save the planet shortly.”

Also due to appear at No Coal Zone were The Midnight Juggernauts, who would be making their first public appearance and performance in almost six years, Heaps Gay and Friends, Ptwiggs and DeepFaith.

There was also supposed to be a special screening of Mark Pritchard and Jonathan Zawada’s film The Four Worlds.

No Coal Zone was organised to benefit ClientEarth, a global charity that helps to tackle polluting industries, like the coal industry, and hold national governments to account.

“I’ve spent a lot of time in Australia over the past decade and each time I come I’m inspired to make music. I’m always blown away by its awe-inspiring nature, the unrivalled friendliness of its people and the quality of its doofs,” Jamie said in a press statement when the concert was first announced on March 4.

“The loss it has suffered has been a blow to people all around the world, so it felt only right to come back this year and help raise money through this party.”

Robbie Chater of The Avalanches said that it’s time to “fight for change and for what is right.” “Successive governments have failed us, putting the vested interests of a few before the well-being of us all,” he added.
