Kanye West

Rapper and apparent US presidential candidate Kanye West has announced on social media his forthcoming album, ‘Donda’ will be released on Friday (July 24).

Fans were first alerted to the arrival of Ye’s tenth studio album over the weekend when the rapper shared the tracklist in a now-deleted tweet, which included Ye’s recent, Travis Scott-featuring single ‘Wash Us In The Blood‘.

The new tracklist, however, appears to include different songs, with 12 tracks in total.

West recently petitioned to have his name listed on the South Carolina ballot, directing fans to visit a newly-established website that is collecting petition signatures. However, he failed to list on the state ballot after not submitting a petition with the required 10,000 signatures by the deadline of July 20.

During a rally in South Carolina, the rapper claimed Harriet Tubman didn’t free the slaves, “she just had them work for other white people”. He also discussed abortion, gun control, addiction, mental health, conspiracy theories and Black-owned businesses.

Despite earlier reports West would be dropping out of the presidential race, he has since filed paperwork with the US Federal Election Commission. The FEC Form 1, Statement of Organization listed West’s political party as ‘BDY’, presumably a reference to The Birthday Party.

Earlier this month, a Redfield and Wilton poll of 2,000 registered American voters found West to be polling at two per cent. Joe Biden was polling at 48 per cent and Donald Trump at 39 per cent.

Since his announcement to run for office on Independence Day (July 4), other musicians including 50 Cent, Katy Perry and will.i.am. have criticised the move.
