Olivia Williams has opened up about her brief experience on Friends.

The British actor, now aged 55, had a guest role on the ’90s sitcom in the show’s fourth season. She played a friend and bridesmaid of Emily, who was played by Helen Baxendale.

Williams can be seen in scenes from the season four finale of the hit show, in which the main cast travel to London for the wedding of Ross and Emily. The episode contains a famous scene in which Ross accidentally says Rachel’s name at the altar instead of Emily’s.

Speaking to The Independent about her time on Friends, Williams gave more details of what she had previously described as a “harrowing” time.

One example included the treatment of a certain actor on set. “Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” she began, before describing the actor as “distinguished” and “very good”.

“At one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming,” she explained.

The Sixth Sense actor also opened up about the process of preparing to play her role of Felicity in the Emmy-winning show: “Oh and Friends was a brand, and you had to fit the brand.”

She elaborated: “You go into hair and make-up and you’re told, ‘There’s a look here, this is what we do.’ And that involved, essentially, plucking off all of your eyebrows.”

Williams added that she begged the crew not to significantly change her look: “Literally, ‘please don’t take my eyebrows off, I might need them in another job!’,” she explained.

“But yes, that’s the sense in which it was harrowing.”

Williams, who portrayed Camilla Parker-Bowles in the most recent seasons of The Crown, is set to play Tula Harkonnen in the upcoming Max series, Dune: Prophecy.

The series is set in the Dune universe created in the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, and takes place approximately 10,000 years before the events of Dune. It serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 film starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.

Here’s when the new Harry Potter TV show is coming out

The HBO Max adaptation will dedicate a whole series to each of the original seven books

The much-anticipated new television adaptation of the Harry Potter series of books has finally been given a prospective release date.

The news of a new TV version of J.K. Rowling’s series of books was first confirmed by HBO Max last April, with reports that each of the seven books will get its own season.

“Your Hogwarts letter is here,” a tweet from the streaming company read. “Max has ordered the first ever Harry Potter scripted television series, a faithful adaptation of the iconic books.”

And now, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed on the Q4 earnings call today (February 23) that the first instalment of the show will hit HBO Max in 2026.

“We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter,” Zaslav said. “We spent some real time with J.K. and her team. Both sides are just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”

Just last month, it was reported that the series was still at a “nascent” stage, with writers being invited to pitch ideas to HBO Max. No casting has yet been confirmed for the series.

Rowling is expected to be involved in the decision-making in the overall direction of the series, with her being listed as an executive producer.

Zaslav has also said that the series is likely to last “a decade”, adding: “My wife and I, we read [the Harry Potter books] to each of our three kids….It’s really moving, for 10 consecutive years, people will see Harry Potter on HBO; I mean it’s really something”.

Warner Bros. brought Rowling’s books to the big screen between 2001 and 2011. Starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, there were eight film instalments in the wildly successful franchise, concluding with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Together, the eight films generated some $7.7billion at the global box office.

Since then, Warner Bros. has produced and distributed multiple spin-off films based on the Harry Potter world: 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and last year’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

In recent years, Rowling has also attracted controversy for her views on the transgender community, having shared numerous statements condemned as transphobic.

In 2020, Harry Potter film star Daniel Radcliffe penned an essay in which he challenged Rowling’s views, stating that “transgender women are women” and “any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people”.

‘True Detective: Night Country’ is now the show’s most watched season

Issa López’ iteration has surpassed the views of season one

True Detective: Night Country has set a major viewing record for HBO following its release on January 14.

The fourth season of the crime drama series, which stars Jodie Foster, Kali Reis, Christopher Eccleston, and Fiona Shaw, just released its penultimate episode, contributing to the new record it holds.

According to The Wrap, True Detective: Night Country has gained 12.7million viewers, making it the show’s most watched season. This record is based on figures from Nielsen and Warner Bros. Discovery, and are calculated as an average from views across HBO and Max.

The previous record holder was the fan-favourite season one, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, which had 11.9million viewers.

The first episode debuted to 2million viewers, and has seen steady increases for each episode since. Episode five, which aired early due to the Super Bowl, had 5 million viewers, helping Night Country to surpass the record held by season one.

True Detective: Night Country, created by Issa López, is set in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska. Starring Foster and Reis as police detectives, it explores the investigation behind the disappearances of eight men working at a research station.

The series received some negative reviews upon its release, with some viewers speculating and criticising possible echoes of season one. The original series creator Nick Pizzolatto has even bashed the fourth season, responding to an unimpressed fan online: I certainly did not have any input on this story or anything else. Can’t blame me.”

In a five-star review of the series, NME wrote: “This iteration of True Detective is a female-driven return to form that weaves supernatural elements and a sensitive mental health narrative into a riveting and intricate detective story.”

‘True Detective’ fans think Matthew McConaughey is about to show up in the new season

There are some clear connections between the first and fourth seasons

True Detective fans are speculating whether season four will see the return of one of the series’ most well-known characters, following some clear links between the different seasons.

The fourth instalment in the crime drama series, titled True Detective: Night Country, aired earlier this month on HBO. Starring Jodie Foster in a lead role as Detective Liz Danvers, who is investigating the disappearance of eight men from an Alaskan research station, critical reviews of the series have been largely positive.

After the second episode of the latest series aired on Sunday (January 21) some fans are beginning to notice links to the first season of True Detective, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and premiered in 2014.

In the latest episode of True Detective: Night Country, Fiona Shaw’s character, Rose, is led by a mysterious presence to some missing bodies in the snow. When viewers discover that the phantom was her former lover, Travis Cohle, who chose to freeze to death instead of die of leukaemia, some started to draw links to the first season.

Travis is the father of McConaughey’s character, Rustin ‘Rust’ Cohle, and had been mentioned in the pilot episode of season one. Rust tells Harrelson’s character, Martin Hart, that his father had leukaemia and also explains that he grew up in Alaska, which is the setting for True Detective: Night Country.

A further link was included between Travis and Rose in the spiral symbol etched into the forehead of one of the corpses in the snow. The symbol is seen on the back of a murder victim in season one, and was eventually connected to an evil being, worshipped by a cult. Rust had started seeing the spiral everywhere he went before he solved the case.

In True Detective: Night Country, which was co-produced by McConaughey and Harrelson, the symbol is mentioned more than once, firstly when Rose asks Detective Navarro (played by Kali Reis) if she had seen the symbol, to which Navarro responds: “It’s old, missy. Older than Ennis. Older than the ice, probably.”

In a five-star review of the latest series, NME wrote on Killing Eve’s Shaw: “Her quietly haunting performance still feels like a key piece in this cryptic puzzle.”

Following a somewhat negative response from fans, showrunner Issa López suggested fans of the first season are deliberately criticising the latest instalment, impacting its overall reviews. The series had attracted criticism for its opening titles and inclusion of supernatural elements.

Production on the upcoming television adaptation of the Harry Potter saga is at a “nascent” stage, with writers now being invited to pitch specific ideas to HBO Max.

Now, according to Deadline, a number of pitches from writers have landed in the in-tray of Warner Bros. Discovery, with potential collaborators invited to present their specific visions for the show. Progress is said to still be at a “nascent” stage.

Rowling is expected to be involved in the decision-making in the overall direction of the series, with her being listed as an executive producer.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has said that the series is likely to last “a decade”, adding: “My wife and I, we read [the Harry Potter books] to each of our three kids….It’s really moving, for 10 consecutive years, people will see Harry Potter on HBO; I mean it’s really something”.

HBO’s ‘The Flight Attendant’ will not return for Season Three

“What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime”

The Flight Attendant will not return for a third season, it has been confirmed by HBO Max.

The comedy-drama-thriller was developed by Steve Yockey (Supernatural), and based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian. It starred Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory) in the title role, and first aired in November 2020, with the second season following two years later.

The show followed Cuoco’s Cassie Bowden, an alcoholic flight attendant who regularly hooked up with passengers after the flights, but is shocked one morning to find a dead body lying next to her. The second season introduced Sharon Stone as Cassie’s estranged mother, Lisa Bowden, who wants to keep her distance after dealing with her daughter’s alcoholism all her life.

Speaking about the news, Cuoco has said: “What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime.”

“I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two thrilling seasons. Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this extremely original series to life.”

Cuoco was nominated for an Emmy last year for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the first season, while the show picked up a nod for Outstanding Comedy Series. Cuoco was also nominated at the Golden Globes for her performance in both seasons.

In a two-star review of the first season of the show, NME wrote: “Receiving Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Critic’s Choice Award nominations for her turn as Cassie, the Big Bang Theory star is perhaps the best thing about the show, shining with slapstick energy as a messy anti-heroine. If she was your best mate, you’d absolutely be done with her…But as a viewer you’re still rooting for the engaging Cassie, even when she parties instead of prepping for an interview with the FBI. Yet in a world of messy woman stereotypes on-screen, The Flight Attendant can’t help but come over as plain infuriating.”

‘Search Party’ showrunner Charles Rogers accused of sexual assault by production assistant

The alleged incident reportedly took place in 2020

The post ‘Search Party’ showrunner Charles Rogers accused of sexual assault by production assistant appeared first on NME.

NME

A production assistant who worked on the HBO Max series, Search Party, has accused showrunner Charles Rogers of sexual assault.

Evan Schwartz has claimed that Rogers sexually assaulted him, and has suggested that the showrunner also drugged him. The alleged incident reportedly happened in 2020, according to Schwartz.

According to TheWrap, the network carried out a past investigation into the alleged assault, which cleared Rogers. However, in social media statements shared by Schwartz on January 6, he said: “HBO’s HR investigator gaslit me into exonerating Charles. Because of the psychotic episode, I believed I made this all up, and I even sent him an email telling him he did nothing wrong.”

In a statement to TheWrap, an individual close to Rogers said: “The facts speak for themselves as evidenced by this individual’s decision to retract his own statement amid a thorough, third-party investigation which found no wrongdoing. Charles unequivocally denies this claim regarding a mutually consensual relationship.”

Schwartz posted a photograph on X/Twitter with the caption: “This is a selfie Charles Rogers took on my phone the morning after sexually assaulting me in 2020. I was his driver on the shoot for Search Party”, which ran from 2016 to 2022.

He continued: “After he took this selfie he joked, “I have a lawyer in case someone me too’s me”,” referring to the #MeToo movement which grew to prominence three years prior. Schwartz added: “I don’t remember falling asleep that night.”

Schwartz also suggested in his posts that Rogers drugged him, saying: “Charles was the writer/director of the show – I was his driver, he was my boss. He indeed handed me a drink right before we left the party, which I drank half of. He told the investigator, “I wouldn’t know how to drug somebody.”

According to his posts, Schwartz has also claimed that the alleged incident has caused him “psychological damage” that is “beyond words”. He continued: “I will post my detailed account of everything, including the psychotic episode, soon.”

“There are so many insane details to this story,” he added.

An official response has not yet been given by Rogers.
