A concert tour of Jurassic Park has been announced, marking 30 years since the release of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster.

‘Jurassic Park In Concert’ is due to tour the UK, with John Williams’ score performed live by a full orchestra. The tour begins at the Manchester AO Arena on October 18, before continuing to the Birmingham Resorts World, Leeds First Direct Arena, Nottingham Motorpoint, and concluding at the Liverpool M&S Bank Arena on October 29.

The tour follows a long line of Hollywood classics that have received the orchestral treatment, with the HD screening accompanied by a performance of Williams’ seminal score by the Hallé Orchestra, one of the UK’s top symphonic ensembles.

The plot of Jurassic Park follows a group of scientists, invited to a newly opened theme park set on a remote island, with exhibits featuring recently revived dinosaurs after a scientific breakthrough.

You can see full dates for the tour below. Tickets are on sale now and can be found here.

21 – Birmingham Resorts World

22 – Leeds First Direct Arena

Lucy Noble, Artistic Director at AEG Artistic Presents, said: “We’re thrilled to launch AEG Artistic Presents with the 30th Anniversary celebration that will be Jurassic Park In Concert.

“The massive arena spectacular showing of the film with the Hallé Orchestra performing the award-winning score will give family audiences the opportunity to experience this film like never before in a wholly immersive way. Presenting these incredible events around the country is what we continue to keep doing”.

In the years following the original film, there have been five sequels including a reboot series in 2015.

The latest film in the franchise, Jurassic World Dominion, came out in 2022, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard joined by the original Jurassic Park cast including Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

The film received mixed reviews overall, with NME writing: “Some genuinely exciting action sequences save Jurassic World Dominion from being a complete turkey – a thrilling raptor versus motorbike chase is one of the highlights. Otherwise, the trilogy exits with a whimper rather than a roar.”

The Grateful Dead join TikTok

The band’s first video was a 30-second compilation of clips and artwork

The post The Grateful Dead join TikTok appeared first on NME.

NME

The Grateful Dead are the latest band to officially join TikTok, with their first video appearing last week.

According to a press release, The Grateful Dead’s TikTok account “will serve as an outlet to celebrate the decades of music, generations of community, and endless array of creativity that has woven the band and its fans into every new era of the world’s counterculture and consciousness.”

The band’s first video on the platform was a 30-second compilation of archival concert footage, artwork, interviews and more from the late ’60s to their final shows in 1995.

At the beginning, an interviewer asks Jerry Garcia: “People are crazy about The Grateful Dead. How can you account for that?” with Garcia responding at the end, “What’s the question? Say it again, real slow.”

The clip is soundtracked by a remastered 1969 live recording of their song ‘St. Stephen’ at San Francisco’s Fillmore West.

In videos posted since, there are further interview clips, snippets of tracks and live performances. There is also a video in which Garcia discusses climate change and the urgent need to act.

In addition to The Grateful Dead, other artist pages that have recently appeared on TikTok include The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

In other news, the “iron grip” of TikTok could risk musicians losing out on royalties, according to a former tech minister.

The Conservative MP Damian Collins, the former Minister For Tech and the Digital Economy, said in March that potential changes to the app that are currently being trialed in Australia will be unhelpful for artists who have achieved particular success on the platform.

Per The TelegraphTikTok has been carrying out a trial in Australia that limits the number of songs users can use in their videos. The move is part of an effort by TikTok to prove that music isn’t crucial to the app’s success amid clashes with record labels over royalties.

A TikTok spokesperson told The Telegraph: “Some of our community in Australia will not be able to access our full TikTok Sounds library at the moment. This will only affect certain music and is scheduled while we analyse how sounds are accessed and added to videos. We look forward to restoring our full catalogue soon.”

In addition, the spokesperson told NME that “speculation that the test is expanding to other markets is baseless”.

Howard Stern “dumbfounded” by Kid Rock’s transphobia

“I don’t know why he got so upset,” Stern said on his radio show

The post Howard Stern “dumbfounded” by Kid Rock’s transphobia appeared first on NME.

NME

Howard Stern has spoken out following Kid Rock‘s transphobic response to trans activist and influencer Dylan Mulvaney, after her partnership with Bud Light.

Mulvaney, who has over 10million followers on TikTok, posted a video advertising the company’s ‘Easy Carry’ contest, which offers customers a chance to win $15,000.

The company also sent her a personalised can with her face and a message on the top reading ‘Cheers to 365 Days of Being a Woman’, to commemorate 365 days since she began her gender transition.

In response, a number of conservatives shared their supposed anger over the partnership, criticising Mulvaney and encouraging other right-wingers to attack the TikTok star.

Kid Rock joined in with these attacks when he posted a video of himself using a semi-automatic rifle to shoot bullets at several cases of Bud Light. “Grandpa is feeling a little frisky today. Let me tell you as clear and concise as possible,” he said before shooting the beer. He then raised his middle finger and shouted: “Fuck Bud Light and fuck Anheuser-Busch.”

“I thought there must be a piece of this story that I’m missing,” Stern said during his SiriusXM radio show last week. “I’m not bothered by gay people or transsexual people. They don’t impact my life, they don’t hurt my life. I love when people are in love.

“You wanna be a woman? Be a woman. You wanna be a dude, be a dude. Be whatever you fucking want. As long as you ain’t hurting anybody, I’m on your team.”

Stern continued: “I wish I could call Kid Rock and have him come on the show and just tell me ‘Why are you so upset about this? How is it hurtful?’ I don’t know why he got so upset.

“Kid Rock, I know him. He’s got a great life. He transitioned from some kid in Michigan to a rock superstar! I’m really dumbfounded by why someone would care so much that they would blow up a can of Bud Light and say, ‘Fuck Anheuser-Busch.’ I don’t get it.”

Numerous people have since mocked Kid Rock online for his video, including musician Jason Isbell, who shared a meme about Coors’ LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination policies with the comment “This is finally how we get him. Leave no bigoted beers to drink.”

Pearl Jam announce 2023 US tour with ‘all-in’ ticket pricing

In an effort to protect fans, ticket prices listed are inclusive of transaction fees

NME

Pearl Jam have announced a US tour, which is due to take place this summer – see full dates below and find tickets here.

The tour kicks off on August 31, with a pair of shows in St. Paul, Minnesota. Further dates include Chicago, Indianapolis and Fort Worth, with the tour finishing in Austin on September 19.

A pre-sale for members of Pearl Jam’s Ten Club is open now and fans can also register for Ticketmaster Verified Fan sale until April 25. Tickets are then on general sale at 10am local time on April 28 and can be found here.

As part of this run of dates, the band have announced that the shows will feature all-in pricing, which means that the price listed is inclusive of transaction fees. Tickets will also be non-transferrable in all cities except Chicago.

To offset increased touring costs, Pearl Jam have designated 10 per cent of each show’s tickets as PJ Premium Seats. These are located in preferred locations and are priced at market rate.

The news of the all-in ticket pricing follows The Cure‘s recent battle with Ticketmaster over fees. In March, Robert Smith persuaded Ticketmaster to issue small refunds to verified ticket buyers over the “unduly high” service fees.

Smith also opted out of Ticketmaster’s “platinum” and “dynamically priced” ticket options, and restricted ticket transfers in markets where he was legally allowed to do so in places like New York, Illinois, and Colorado, which have all enacted legislation protecting resellers.

Elsewhere, in February, Pearl Jam announced a 25th anniversary reissue package for their album ‘Yield’. The Seattle grunge icons’ fifth studio album came out in February 1998 and featured the singles ‘Do The Evolution’ and ‘Given To Fly’.

Looking forwards, Pearl Jam‘s Stone Gossard gave an update on the progress of the band’s forthcoming album.

The guitarist confirmed in an interview with Consequence of Sound last March that work had begun on the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Gigaton’ and that Andrew Watt, who has previously worked with Justin Bieber, is behind the production desk this time around.

Later in 2022, Gossard told Riff TV how things were moving along: “The plan is that we’re gonna do some more recording, and we’re gonna try to finish a record here pretty soon. There’s songs that are getting close to being done and there’s a bunch that aren’t. And we’re gonna do something here pretty soon.” [via LouderSound]

Billy Corgan has 65 unreleased songs for new Zwan box set

“I’m very excited because honestly, I personally think the best Zwan music didn’t get released”

The post Billy Corgan has 65 unreleased songs for new Zwan box set appeared first on NME.

NME

Smashing PumpkinsBilly Corgan has spoken about a new box set that is in the works for his side-project supergroup Zwan.

Earlier this year, Zwan’s only album ‘Mary Star Of The Sea’ turned 20, though the album has never been made available on streaming services.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Corgan was asked whether the Zwan album might be getting a reissue at some point. He replied: “Actually, I’m working on the box set right now. I think there’s 65 unreleased songs.”

On when it might be released, he added: “Not sure. I’m setting up a new business model with the Thirty Tigers company that we’re working with. Atum is a good model. I think I’ll be able to release these projects through them. That’s because they can handle the independent record stores and all that type of stuff for ordering, because otherwise I’m just putting it out myself and that’s very difficult.

“I’m working on the box as we speak. I’m very excited because honestly, I personally think the best Zwan music didn’t get released — the acoustic side of the band, which is really what we should have done, and not tried to do an alternative pop record. That would’ve been the stronger effort, I think, and a more timeless thing.”

In September last year Smashing Pumpkins announced the new three-part rock opera LP, ‘ATUM’, serving as a sequel to their classic double records ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ (1995) and ‘Machina/The Machines Of God’ (2000).

‘Act I’ was released in November, with ‘Act II’ following in February. The band have now confirmed that the album will be complete with the release of ‘Act III’ on May 5, delayed from April 21. ‘Spellbinding’, its first preview, was released in March.

Corgan recently told NME about his ambitions for the 33-song project, explaining: “Because there’s a lot of people who believe less is more these days. I’m on the opposite side – I actually think more is more!”

In March, Smashing Pumpkins headlined a new festival in Mexico called The World Is A Vampire alongside Interpol, and then announced a US tour of the same name, taking place across July, August and September.

Interpol will join the band on the tour, with Rival Sons and Stone Temple Pilots also on board for select dates. Tickets are available here.

M83 call off show after one song and refund fans

“I’m so sorry for letting all you guys down,” Anthony Gonzalez said in a statement

The post M83 call off show after one song and refund fans appeared first on NME.

NME

M83 called off a show at Austin’s Stubb’s Bar-B-Q after frontman Anthony Gonzalez left the stage one song into the setlist.

Last week (April 14), the band reportedly walked offstage during a performance of ‘Oceans Niagara’. According to social media reports, the venue later said the show was being cancelled due to “illness”, but ticket holders were then contacted about refunds.

At the time, no official statement was made by M83 but there has now been an update via the band’s social media, with a statement from Gonzalez, who offered an apology.

“Unfortunately I had been feeling very unwell all that day but I was very keen to still try and do the show,” he wrote. “However as soon as the show started it became evident to me that I was very unwell and had to seek urgent medical attention. On medical advice I was told that I could not return to the stage.”

“This is the first time I have ever had to cancel a show due to illness and I feel terrible about this and I’m so sorry for letting all you guys down.”

He continued: “All this week we have been trying to see if we could get the show rescheduled in some way but unfortunately this has proved impossible for numerous logistical reasons. Therefore we have had no option but to fully cancel the show and full refunds will be available at point of purchase.”

The band’s shows in Houston (April 15), Dallas (April 16), Nashville (April 18), Atlanta (April 19), Philadelphia (April 21) and Washington (April 22) all appear to have gone ahead as scheduled. M83 are due to play Boston tonight.

M83’s new album ‘Fantasy’ was released in March, marking their first record since 2019’s ‘DSVII’ – a video-game inspired sequel to 2007’s ‘Digital Shades Vol. 1’.

In a three-star review, NME said of ‘Fantasy’: “Despite Gonzalez’s attempts to pull away from success, his status as a cult hero looks secure. His penchant for an earworm — intentional or not — remains undeniable.”

PJ Harvey teases return and shares new studio clips

The musician has made a new playlist available via her Spotify

The post PJ Harvey teases return and shares new studio clips appeared first on NME.

NME

PJ Harvey has shared that she has been back in the studio with her longtime collaborators John Parish and Flood.

Earlier this week, the musician shared via her social media and her newsletter that she was making a new playlist available on her Spotify.

The playlist features “tracks from her catalogue produced by John Parish and Flood,” and comes in at just under 40 minutes.

Writing in her newsletter, Harvey said: “I have recently been in the studio with John Parish and Flood, my closest musical partners for nearly 30 years. This is a celebration of their masterful work with me. I am so grateful. Thank you John. Thank you Flood. I love you both.”

In addition to the playlist, Harvey shared two new studio clips, filmed, directed and edited by Steve Gullick – you can watch those below.

A message at the end of the newsletter reads: “Keep an eye out for a special announcement next Tuesday at 8pm BST,” suggesting details about a new project or her return.

Last year, Harvey announced an expansive, 59-track box set of rare songs titled ‘B-Sides, Demos and Rarities’. The compilation catalogues nearly five dozen archival cuts from the singer-songwriter, 14 of which have never previously seen the light of day.

In February last year, Harvey shared a series of photographs of herself in the studio, prompting speculation her 10th studio album could be on the way. In June, Harvey provided an update on the forthcoming album, telling Rolling Stone she was “very pleased with it” and earmarking a 2023 release.

Also last year, Harvey shared a cover of Leonard Cohen‘s ‘Who By Fire’ for the Apple TV+ series Bad Sisters.

In a press release, she said of the cover: “It was a very enjoyable day spent recording the version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Who by Fire’ for Bad Sisters. I had spoken to Sharon Horgan in advance of the recording session, so I understood why she felt the song’s lyric was so perfect for the series, but also understood what nuances of Leonard’s performance she most loved, and therefore what to try and recapture but in my own way.”

Grimes shares update on ‘Book 1’ and the chances of a new album

“Lots of new music to come, but y’all can find singers anywhere”

The post Grimes shares update on ‘Book 1’ and the chances of a new album appeared first on NME.

NME

Grimes has shared an update on her forthcoming project, ‘Book 1’, and whether new music will be coming soon.

The Canadian musician, real name Claire Boucher, took to twitter in February and revealed that she was writing music for the first time in a while, adding that she “forgot” how fun it was.

Earlier in the year, she provided an update about her upcoming album, ‘Book 1’, but referred to the project as a “side quest” indicating that music was not a top priority for her.

Last week, in response to someone on Twitter writing “pls remember that u are also a singer,” Boucher wrote: “I was never a singer. I was just good enough at engineering to make it sound like I was.

“The ideas always came first, and grimes has always been most loved when I focussed on innovating. Lots of new music to come, but y’all can find singers anywhere.”

She later added: “A series of chaos – Book 1 will come it’s just so old now haha. I think I gotta put out this new stuff first and follow w book 1 cuz the new music I’m making is just so next level. We won’t wait for an album tho i ahree it’s been too long. We’ll start dropping as we finish.”

The musician and producer’s last album, ‘Miss Anthropocene‘, was released in 2020. She’s since shared a number of standalone tracks – some of which remain officially unreleased – including ‘Love‘, ‘Welcome To The Opera’, ‘Player Of Games’ and the Jennie (BLACKPINK) and Dorian Electra-featuring ‘Shinigami Eyes’.

Earlier this month, Boucher announced on Twitter that she “trained an AI version of me and she fell in love with our friend who trained her,” emphasising her interest in AI. A few days later, it was confirmed that she would present a closing keynote speech on artificial intelligence at the International Music Summit (IMS) in Ibiza.

She will be closing the three-day conference with a presentation sharing her insights into music tech, AI and the metaverse. The 14th edition of the summit is due to begin on April 26 and end on April 28, and will be co-hosted by Pete Tong and Jaguar.

Last month, New Order backed the #LetTheMusicMove campaign against proposed changes to US visa rules that would impact touring artists.

In February, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it was planning to raise touring visa fees for foreign acts by more than 250 per cent.

“The influence of New York club culture has been pivotal to the evolution of New Order, from our initial shows at legendary long-lost venues like Tier 3, Hurrah and the Peppermint Lounge to our recent arena tour with the Pet Shop Boys,” the Manchester band said in a statement.

They added: “Through our support of the #LetTheMusicMove campaign, we want the US Government to rethink these policy changes and look to alternative measures that encourage greater musical exchange, not less.”

In March, the band celebrated 40 years of ‘Blue Monday’ with a range of special merchandise. This came just weeks after the band released a new ‘Blue Monday’-themed t-shirt in support of mental health charity CALM.

Speaking to NME about the recording classic track, which went on to become the best-selling 12-inch single of all time, former bassist Peter Hook said: “It was actually quite shocking to realise what these new machines could do – you were always in awe of them.”

Meanwhile, Primavera Sound Festival announced New Order as its final headliner for its 2023 line-up. The 2023 instalment of the festival, which will take place in both Barcelona and Madrid, will see the Manchester legends perform at the former’s Parc del Fòrum on June 1 and at the and at the latter’s Ciudad del Rock in Arganda del Rey on June 8. Madlib and MF DOOM‘s long-awaited ‘Madvillainy 2’ is still on the way

The album will be the sequel to the pair’s acclaimed 2004 record

The post Madlib and MF DOOM‘s long-awaited ‘Madvillainy 2’ is still on the way appeared first on NME.

NME

Madlib and MF DOOM‘s ‘Madvillainy 2’ is still in the works, 20 years after ‘Madvillainy’ first arrived.

The legendary rapper, whose death was confirmed on New Year’s Eve 2020, teamed up with Madlib to release the acclaimed 2004 album under their collaborative name Madvillain.

Now, Madlib has confirmed that ‘Madvillainy 2’ is still on its way. Appearing on Hot 97 alongside Talib Kweli to promote their new joint project, ‘Liberation 2’, Madlib told host Peter Rosenberg: “We have like 10 joints. [It’s] just not complete.

“It’s more like a demo to me because we didn’t piece it together or anything and some of them it sounds like he just did one take and that’s it. [But] I’m gonna finish it. I gotta change a lot of the beats because some of the beats were used also.”

Madlib also noted that the project had been in progress for almost two decades, with the recording process beginning right after the release of ‘Madvillainy’. DOOM, however, only did a couple of songs a year.

The pair released the album via Stones Throw Records – with founder Peanut Butter Wolf revealing that a sequel was on the way at the time of DOOM’s death. He was reportedly “85% done” with the sequel at the time.

“DOOM was always telling me ‘It’s 85% done, it’s 85% done.’ That was the magic number,” Wolf said on the Juan Ep is Dead podcast.

He went on to recall how DOOM initially sent him 11 tracks for the project in 2009, but wanted to hold off on releasing the project until “a few more songs” were finished.

“I got a little frustrated, and I was just like, you know, ‘It’s gonna happen when it’s gonna happen.’ I don’t wanna be the guy to force creativity or anything,” he added.

Talib Kweli and Madlib’s ‘Liberation 2’, a sequel to their collaborative 2007 album, was released last month. It features a posthumous contribution by Mac Miller, as well as collaborations with Q-Tip, Wildchild, Roc Marciano and Westside Gunn.

In other news, Madlib confirmed last month that he has numerous new projects underway including a new Mac Miller album that is near completion.

According to Madlib, work on the upcoming LP first began “years ago”, however he has only recently gained the blessing from Miller’s estate. Miller died in September 2018 following an accidental overdose. He was 26 years old.

Elsewhere in the same interview, Madlib also confirmed that he is in the process of working on a new Erykah Badu album and a new project involving California rapper Planet Asia. No details involving the albums’ titles or release dates have been announced yet.
