Kim Ji-woong of rookie K-pop group ZEROBASEONE has refuted a claim that he swore at a fan during a video call.

Last Friday (February 2), a user on X (formerly Twitter) claiming to be a fan of ZEROBASEONE shared a clip from a video call event with the boyband, where they had the chance to speak to member Kim Ji-woong. At the end of the video, after the ZEROBASEONE member goes offscreen, a male voice can allegedly be heard swearing, per Koreaboo.

According to The Korea Times, the user who uploaded the clip asked if the K-pop idol “normally end[s] a fan event with such language?” They added that they were “upset” over the alleged incident, saying “why should a fan walk on eggshells around him to talk to him after paying so much money” even though they did not “ask him to do […] or say something odd”.

ZEROBASEONE’s agency, WAKEONE, has since denied the allegations in a statement to Sports Seoul. “After checking with [Kim Ji-woong] himself, [the claim] is not true. We also checked with the employee and translator that were present at the scene,” the company said, as translated by Soompi.

In a later statement, WAKEONE also added that it would be taking legal action against individuals who have threatened its artists’ safety or infringed on their rights, including those who are “creating and spreading fake edits and posts”, as translated by Soompi.

The agency said that it would be using methods like digital media forensics to “reveal the definitive truth”, adding that it would “mobilise all resources at our disposal in order to protect our artist”.

ZEROBASEONE were scheduled to perform at Krazy Super Concert 2024, which would have taken place on February 9 and 10, 2024 at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. However, the event has since been postponed due to “the incoming heavy rains across the Southern California region”.

Their second studio album ‘[2]’ is out now

K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE have released their new music video for ‘Super Lady’, from their second studio album, ‘[2]’.

In the new music video for ‘Super Lady’, (G)I-DLE channel the vibes of iconic second-generation K-pop girl group 2NE1, with larger-than-life styling and matching costumes. It opens with the quintet making a powerful entrance on stage in a massive stadium as strobe lights flash around them.

In other scenes, the girl group also draw inspiration from Cruella De Vil, Alice in Wonderland and Cleopatra, among others. “Lady lady, call me super lady, lady, lady / Follow ladies, come on ladies / Super ladies,” they chant in the chorus.

‘[2]’ comes four months after the girl group released their debut English-language EP ‘Heat’ in collaboration with 88rising. Meanwhile, their last domestic comeback was their May 2023 mini-album ‘I Feel’, which was led by the title track ‘Queencard’. The song was later named one of NME’s 25 Best K-pop songs of 2023.

Ahead of their return, the girl group also dropped a pre-release single titled ‘Wife’. However, the song was deemed inappropriate for broadcast by national broadcaster KBS over “sexually explicit” lyrics. The broadcaster also shared that another ‘[2]’ B-side ‘Rollie’ had also been banned due to product placement in its lyrics.

Last Friday (January 26), CUBE Entertainment shared that (G)I-DLE’s Minnie and Yuqi had developed high fevers, and that it had halted their activities as a result. In a later statement, the agency announced that the group’s upcoming activities, including their album release press conference, would be rescheduled or cancelled.

IU reveals how BTS’ V was cast in the music video for ‘Love Wins All’

“I sent him the music first, and V loved the music,” she said

Singer-songwriter IU has opened up about how BTS singer V was cast in the music video for her new single, ‘Love Wins All’.

Last week, IU made her long-awaited comeback with her new single ‘Love Wins All’. In the music video, she and the BTS member star as a couple fighting to survive in a dystopian world as they recall their happy memories from the past.

In a new behind-the-scenes clip, IU explained how she ended up casting V in the video, sharing that she and director Um Tae-hwa had come to the conclusion during discussions that the male lead had to “possess the mood of a young boy, but give off a very cool and reliable feeling after the transformation”.

The singer added that, in the beginning, she was not sure if they would be able to find somebody like that. However, she shared that she had been in contact with V over a different matter at the time, and asked him to star in the video after realising that he might be suitable for the role.

“I sent him the music first, and V loved the music,” she revealed. “He listened to ‘Love Wins All’ and happily decided to star in the music video. He said. ‘I love the song, I want to do it’.”

Elsewhere in the behind-the-scenes clip, V shared that he also agreed to the project as he had wanted to work with Um. “The director of the music video was Director Um Tae-hwa, who filmed Concrete Utopia, so I thought it would be a precious memory to work on a piece with him,” he said.

“When IU called me, I said I should listen to the song first. After I listened to it, I knew I would regret it so much if I don’t do the video because it suited my tastes so much,” V added. “So, I decided to do it.”

In related news, IU is gearing up to embark on her massive 2024 ‘H.E.R.’ world tour, which will take place from March to August this year. The 29-date tour will feature concerts in Asia, Europe and the US.

Seori makes her long-awaited comeback with new single ‘Broken’

Her first music under new management Label Sayu has finally arrived

The post Seori makes her long-awaited comeback with new single ‘Broken’ appeared first on NME.

NME

South Korean singer Seori has dropped a new single, ‘Broken’, alongside its accompanying music video.

The new track officially dropped today (January 31) at 6pm KST, along with an accompanying visualiser that depicted the singer performing the affecting single against a barren, snow-covered landscape.

‘Broken’ was first announced last week as a “pre-release single”, suggesting that Seori will follow the song up with a full body of work, however no other details have been disclosed by the singer nor her label as of writing.

“Something’s broken inside of me / Although you did nothing to me / I’ve got hurt so hard by / Look at you and me on the screen / No one can set me free,” the 27-year-old vocalist laments on the chorus of the new single.

The release of ‘Broken’ officially marks Seori’s first music under Label Sayu, which she signed with in October 2023. News of her move came three months after she left long-time label Warner Music Korea’s ATISPAUS.

Her releases in 2023 comprised OSTs for K-dramas like Doona!, Tell Me That You Love Me and Song of The Bandits. Her last comeback was her March 2022 English-language digital single ‘Can’t Stop This Party’.

Prior to making her debut, Seori released several covers on YouTube, where she gained a small following. She made her official debut in 2020 with her first mini-album ‘?Depacse Ohw’, and worked with boyband Tomorrow X Together on their single ‘0x1=Lovesong (I Know I Love You)’ the following year.

She later released several digital singles, including ‘Lovers in the Night’, ‘The Long Night’ featuring rapper Giriboy, ‘Dive With You’ with former Day6 singer eaJ and ‘Warriors’ with 88rising’s Warren Hue for the soundtrack of Shang-chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

NCT member Ten has shared more details about his upcoming solo debut.

Today (January 26) at midnight KST, NCT’s Ten announced the release date and new details for his forthcoming solo debut. Titled ‘TEN’, his first mini-album will be released on February 13 at 6pm KST.

Released alongside the announcement was a teaser poster that seems to tease the lyrics of an upcoming song: “When the midnight comes / Pulling the strings / Beautiful monster royalty energy / I am yours”

Ten has previously released several solo tracks, mainly through SM Entertainment’s SM Station project, the first being 2017’s ‘Dream in a Dream’. Other solo songs include ‘Paint Me Naked’ and ‘Birthday’. However, the upcoming record will mark his official solo debut.

In support of the upcoming release, SM Entertainment previously announced that Ten will be going on his first ‘1001’ Asia fan-con tour. The tour will kick off on February 17 in Seoul, before heading to Bangkok, Hong Kong and Jakarta in the following months.

Ten made his debut as a member of NCT in 2016 as part of its rotating NCT U sub-unit with bandmates Jaehyun, Taeyong, Doyoung and Mark. The singer went on to participate in several NCT U releases, before debuting as a member of WayV, the group’s China-based sub unit in January 2019.

In other NCT news, SM announced yesterday (January 25) that NCT 127 leader Taeyong will also be releasing solo music in February. While the agency has yet to share further details, the upcoming project will be his first since his debut mini-album ‘SHALALA’ dropped last June.

Several K-pop artists, including Cha Eun-woo and SEVENTEEN’s Woozi, have made dedications to the late ASTRO singer Moonbin on his birthday.

Last April, ASTRO member Moonbin passed away at the age of 25 in his own home in the Gangnam district of Seoul. Today (January 26) would have been the singer’s 26th birthday. To commemorate his birthday, his ASTRO bandmates as well as several other idols shared birthday wishes and song dedications.

Cha Eun-woo released a cover of the song ‘Love Is Gone’ by American DJ duo SLANDER on the group’s official YouTube channel. He previously released another cover of ‘Stalker’ by 10cm dedicated to Moonbin a month after his passing.

Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN vocalist and producer Woozi released an original song titled ‘What Kind of Future’, which he first performed at a concert in 2018. According to SportsKeeda, the song’s official credits also contain a message to the late Moonbin, which reads: “I will never forget your smile filled with love.”

In a letter Woozi dedicated to Moonbin after his passing, he shared that the singer had enjoyed the song and had urged him to release it. In the same letter, he promised to release it for Moonbin on his birthday.

On X (formerly Twitter), ASTRO members MJ and JinJin also shared their birthday wishes for Moonbin. “I live my life thinking that you’re watching me. You’re eating well and resting well, right?” wrote JinJin. “Make sure to eat seaweed soup today. There aren’t many pictures of us, I should have taken more pictures. You have to be happier than anybody else today. I love you, my brother.”

ASTRO’s Yoon Sanha, SEVENTEEN’s DK and Seungkwan also shared dedications to the singer on their Instagram stories. MONSTA X rapper I.M, who shares a birthday with Moonbin also shared that they usually called one another on their birthday. “It’s very cold. I hope you’re doing well. I miss you a lot. The 10 best fromis_9 songs

In celebration of their 6th anniversary, we look back on some of the girl group’s greatest tracks to date

The post The 10 best fromis_9 songs appeared first on NME.

NME

Known for their infectiously optimistic energy, fromis_9 have spent the last few years establishing their presence in the K-pop industry. Their journey from plucky rookies to bonafide hitmakers has been marked with challenges, from long hiatuses to the departure of original member Gyu-ri. Even so, the girl group have persevered through it all, taking on each release as a way to showcase their versatility yet maintain their musical identity.

As the octet wrap up their sixth year together, they’ve shown to have grown immensely, transforming into powerful, skilled performers with a fantastic discography. From their iconic title tracks to underrated hidden gems, here are the 10 best fromis_9 songs to date.

Honourable mentions:

‘Hush Hush’ (2022)
‘Airplane Mode’ (2021)
‘LOVE RUMPUMPUM’ (2019)
‘Up And’ (2022)
‘FUN!’ (2019)

‘What I Want’ (2023)

After a lengthy break following the departure of Gyu-ri, fromis_9 returned in full swing last year with their first studio album and a self-assured new attitude to boot. Throwing caution to the wind, they bravely declare to a lover: “As if I’m running, accelerated heartbeat / Now I know you are, you are what I want.” This glitchy dance-pop number confidently showcases their mature side, while still coursing with the same exciting energy we’ve come to know and love.

‘DKDK’ (2018)

A relentless sugar rush, the high-octane ‘DKDK’ might not have been a big hit on the charts – criminal, given how good it is – but its unbridled, joyful energy keeps chugging along even all these years later. Persistent synths keep the pace racing along as they ponder the never-ending thumping of their hearts around a love interest. As they sing somewhere in the song, it’s like being on a rollercoaster.

‘22CENTURY GIRL’ (2018)

‘22CENTURY GIRL’ might be one of their earlier B-sides, but it remains one of the group’s strongest tracks. Opening with a dizzying synth loop, the members’ vocals steer the song melodically, swooping into a thrillingly bittersweet chorus punctuated by an electrifying retro beat. Pure magic.

‘Escape Room’ (2022)

While we all love fromis_9’ signature bright pop sound – and they nail it every single time – it sometimes distracts from the group’s ability to display more complex, subdued vocal moments. Away from the bombast of their title tracks, this chic, cozy R&B track offers the girl group an opportunity to flex their voices in more subtle, sophisticated ways, and boy, do they deliver.

‘Feel Good (SECRET CODE)’ (2020)

The release of ‘Feel Good (SECRET CODE)’ in 2020 marked the first major shift in fromis_9’s title tracks. Though it relies less on the cutesy, aegyo<.i>-charged delivery of ‘DKDK’ and ‘FUN!’, this charming retro-inspired number is still every bit as exhilarating as the group invites you to join their secret party.

‘To Heart’ (2018)

Earnest and innocent, fromis_9’s youthful energy shines through in their debut single, a pinkie promise to fans who supported them through their gruelling time on the survival show Idol School that led them to the group. “And if you feel distant / I’ll run over with all my strength / Heart to heart to heart,” they vow, and you can almost feel your heart swell with the song’s exuberant strings.

‘Attitude’ (2023)

The elevated elegance of ‘Attitude’ was the perfect opener for last year’s ‘Unlock My World’, which heralded an empowered new era for the group. “I’m leaving today / Bye, bye, bye / That’s my attitude / Far away, oh, oh, oh,” they sing nonchalantly in the chorus, as layers of distortion lend each line a hypnotising air of mystery. It’s a clear departure from fromis_9’s earlier material, though you’d think they’ve been releasing music like this for years.

‘Love Bomb’ (2018)

Unarguably their most iconic title track, ‘Love Bomb’ is a thrilling explosion of everything we’ve come to associate with the classic fromis_9 single: a heart-fluttering instrumental, dynamic melodies and an unshakable earworm of a hook. ‘Love Bomb’ is the embodiment of fromis_9’s ethos of bubblegum pop perfection that will have you singing along before the end of your first listen

‘Rewind’ (2022)

Tapping on the group’s sultry side, the captivating ‘Rewind’ is a disco-pop dream that recounts the very first moment of an electrifying connection. Reflective and nostalgic yet dynamic and catchy, it’s yet another show of fromis_9’s incredible versatility. Jubilantly closing out 2022’s ‘from our Momento Box’, this track does exactly what it sets out to do, celebrating and showcasing the most precious memories we’ve shared with a loved one.

‘DM’ (2022)

You know that feeling where all your troubles and worries just fade away when you’re around that special someone? ‘DM’ is fromis_9’s way of bottling up that feeling and putting it into a song. This groovy, superpowered city-pop gem’s soaring chorus takes it a step far above the rest, washing over you like a tidal wave of yearning. The members – Jiwon and Hayoung in particular – really show off the full range of their vocals here, and when they burst into that wholehearted final chorus, it’s so gratifying that it could drive one to joyful tears.
