Frontier Developments has released a long list of fixes for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey in response to fan criticism.

Elite Dangerous’ latest expansion Odyssey was released on May 19 and was met with heavy criticism from players. This was shortly followed by several hotfixes and a large update. The latest update is the second to address common problems.

The Steam patch notes list a small number of AI tweaks and fixes such as “Ranged AI will now draw their pistol when investigating, rather than their rifle” and “AI reinforcements will no longer appear at Offline settlements if the power is restored, and the alarms raised.”.

Many of the fixes and tweaks focus on audio such as “Mix tweaks for Helmet radio comms effect and suit voice have been made – softened harsh high frequencies” and “Mix improvements and fix for impressionistic layers being audible outside of the concourse have been made – Will only be audible when in a Concourse.”

Taxi pilots were also changed and “will now say ‘goodbye’ at more sensible times instead of 15 seconds of awkward silence prior to being able to disembark.”

Optimisation passes have been made for many of the NPC’s which were new to Odyssey. These include “Optimisations for Vendors and NPCs in Social Spaces” and “Optimisations for Miner and Scientist NPCs in Settlements”. There were also improvements made to fire effects inside of rooms.

The largest list of fixes is UI-based. These include “In Loadouts UI, old stats which were wrongly being left visible when the stat data changes have been fixed.” As well as “Mission UI – Fixed an issue whereby the starport service will remember the last board selection, so you could open passenger lounge/community goals in the social space.”

Elsewhere Valorant Mobile has been announced as the game reaches one year since release.

‘Monster Hunter: World’ has dropped Denuvo DRM

Is the performance difference noticeable?

NME

Capcom has removed the often-criticised Denuvo DRM (digital rights management) from Monster Hunter: World.

When Monster Hunter: World launched on Steam in 2018 it came with a DRM system to deter pirates by requiring online activation to launch the game.

This is often a source of ire for players because of a perception that it causes higher CPU usage and more frequent utilisation of storage devices that could affect gameplay or damages hardware. Denuvo has denied these claims.

Most games that come with some form of DRM that is often bypassed by pirates shortly after release, so it is not uncommon for companies to remove the DRM in a patch once it is no longer necessary. Other games with Denuvo include Devil May Cry 5, Metro Exodus, and Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Monster Hunter: World’s latest patch has removed around 500MB of files from the game, and the steam page no longer states that MH:W has some form of DRM.

While there is no evidence to show that Denuvo causes any performance issues it is a common perception, and once a game is cracked there is no way to reverse it.

Another notable instance of companies dropping Denuvo is RAGE 2, which launched with Denuvo on Steam, but not on Bethesda’s own launcher which led to it being cracked almost as soon as it launched. The Steam version was updated not long after to remove Denuvo DRM with the patch notes claiming “We saw a few requests”.

In other gaming news, a McDonald’s chicken nugget has reached a bidding price of over £35,000 on Ebay. The nugget is shaped like a character from the game and was found in a Combo Meal themed after K-pop megastars BTS.

Nemesis packs a punch, and more

Capcom and Behaviour Interactive have teamed-up to bring Resident Evil‘s Nemesis to Dead by Daylight.

The new killer will be armed with abilities focused around his appearance in 2020’s Resident Evil 3 Remake. Nemesis will arriving in Dead by Daylight on June 15, along with a new map based on the Raccoon City Police Department.

A reveal trailer has been made available on YouTube:

Behaviour Interactive has also detailed Nemesis’s in-game abilities in a press release.

‘Lethal Pursuer’ will highlight all survivors at the start of the round for a short period allowing him to zero in on targets rapidly.

‘Hysteria’ causes all injured survivors to suffer the Oblivious status effect whenever he puts a healthy survivor into the injured state. This removes the player’s early warning systems of his approach.

‘Eruption’ allows Nemesis to sabotage generators for an explosion later. Each time you kick a generator it becomes marked for eruption. When players put a survivor into the dying state all marked generators will explode.

Finally, Nemesis comes with a special attack called ‘Tentacle Strike’. This attack does not deal damage on the first hit but causes the “Contamination” affliction. If they already have contamination, then it will deal damage instead.

Contamination can be cured by vaccines found throughout the map, though using a vaccine will reveal players  to the killer.

Zombies also accompany the Nemesis into the Entity’s domain. Two will spawn at the start of the round and will roam the area. Survivors attacked by zombies will gain Contamination. If they already have Contamination, they will take damage instead.

The introduction of Ai enemies into Dead by Daylight is a first for the game. These zombies can also be killed by the Nemesis players to increase their mutation rate which will make them even more powerful as the round progresses.

In other Resident Evil news, a modder recently created a brand new difficulty mode for Resident Evil Village, which is designed to be even harder than current Village of Shadows difficulty.
