Billie Eilish will perform her new Bond theme ‘No Time To Die’ for the first time at the Brit Awards next week, it has been confirmed.

The singer, who debuted the titular Bond track in the early hours of this morning, will take to the stage at The O2 on Tuesday (February 18) for the 40th annual BRIT Awards.

Posting on Twitter, legendary composer Hans Zimmer confirmed that he will be performing alongside Eilish, her brother Finneas and guitar legend Johnny Marr.

‘No Time To Die’, was produced by Eilish’s brother Finneas O’Connell and Stephen Lipson and is an emotional ballad, as the pop star previously teased.

Was I stupid to love you? Was I reckless to help? Was I oblivious to everybody else?” Eilish sings.

That I’ve fallen for a lie / That you were never on my side / Fool me once, fool me twice / Are you death or paradise? / Now you’ll never see me cry / There was just no time to die.”

Eilish is the first American artist to perform a Bond theme since Jack White and Alicia Keys released ‘Another Way To Die’ in 2008. She is also the youngest artist to ever perform a Bond theme.

Writing and performing the Bond theme was a “life goal” for her, she said.

No Time To Die hits cinemas on April 3 2020.

Ex-ACCEPT Singer DAVID REECE Releases Music Video For ‘Metal Voice’

"Metal Voice", the new video from former ACCEPT singer David Reece, can be seen below. The song is taken from Reece's new full-length album, "Cacophony Of Souls", which is due on March 13 via El Puerto Records. Joining Reece on the effort are ex-U.D.O./SINNER guitarist Andy Susemihl, bassist Malte Frederik Burkert (EXOTOXIS) and drummer Andrea Gianangeli (DRAGONHAMMER, SOULS UNCHAINED). Track listing: 01. Chasing The Shadows 02. Blood On Our Hands 03. Judgement Day 04. Collective Anaesthesia 05. Cacophony Of Souls 06. Another Life Another Time 07. Metal Voice 08. Over And Over 09. Back In The Days 10. A Perfect World 11. Bleed 12. No Disguise Reece was recruited by ACCEPT for the "Eat The Heat" album in 1989 following the departure of Udo Dirkschneider. Reece's higher-pitched delivery was in sharp contrast to Udo's distinctive style, and overall, the album was a critical and commercial disappointment. Midway through the "Eat The Heat" tour, differences between the band and Reece had come to a head, leading to the altercation between the singer and bassist Peter Baltes in Chicago. By the end of 1989, ACCEPT had hung it up. Back in 2017, Reece told Canadian rock journalist Mitch Lafon that he still looks back fondly on the "Eat The Heat" album. "You know what? It's weird, because the bad blood happened at the end of it, and I hated it — I hated everything about it," he said. "I knew it opened a bunch of doors for me, but… I, on a daily basis, get people telling me what that album means to them now. At the beginning, they hated me, but now it's, like, they have this rebirth of how great it is. And I listened to it the other day, and I went, 'That's a pretty dang good album for a first.'" He continued: "Yeah, I'm proud of it. I mean, that's a… I mean, it's not ACCEPT — okay, let's be honest — but there's some cool stuff on there. And I still get paid royalties for that album. They [re-released] it on vinyl. I get these statements; people buy it from the old crowd and the new crowd. And I'm, like, 'Ooooh…' So it's got legs to this day, and that was '88… 1988, '89. Amazing." Reece has also played with BONFIRE and BANGALORE CHOIR. Photo credit: Matt Bischof

AMARANTHE Releases ‘Do Or Die’ Single/Video Featuring Ex-ARCH ENEMY Singer ANGELA GOSSOW

BLABBERMOUTH.NET

Swedish/Danish metallers AMARANTHE are ready to present a very special Valentine's Day gift: a brand new song featuring former ARCH ENEMY vocalist Angela Gossow. "Do Or Die" displays AMARANTHE's heavier side and is accompanied by a dystopian horror video filmed in Spain, featuring Fardou Keuning's stunning creations. Gossow comments: "It was thrilling to join AMARANTHE for a more extreme track and shooting a cutting-edge video for it! This is no cozy studio performance, but real ice-cold winds, sewages, cadavers and pouring rain — the reality we live in, the devastating legacy we leave to our future generations. Time to wake up, turn — and bang — some heads! Watch out for these guys and killer lady, they are going to crush you this year with a new album and some heavy touring!!!" Guitarist Olof Mörck states: "While AMARANTHE's music is often uplifting, energetic and positive, sooner or later everyone needs to deal with the obvious fact that the world is literally crumbling around us — and it is crumbling fast, thanks to the short sighted abuse of our common Mother Earth! We talked to legendary Angela Gossow of ARCH ENEMY fame to do an entire package of a video and a song, outside of any normal album cycle, and let our different perspectives on metal collide in a massive explosion; and it resulted in 'Do Or Die'! Together with Overbeck Media who shot the video, we delivered something really quite special, and Angela brings in a fresh strength to the trademark AMARANTHE sound that is sure to resound all across the metal world! Death and fire!" Last fall, AMARANTHE announced it had signed a new deal with Nuclear Blast for the release of its sixth studio album, due later this year. AMARANTHE will embark on a North American headlining tour in the summer/fall of 2020. The 37-date trek will kick-off at the Soundstage in Baltimore on August 20 and will make stops in Chicago, Vancouver and Denver before concluding on October 2 at the Riverfront Live in Cincinnati, Ohio. Support on the trek will come Finnish metallers BATTLE BEAST and the Boston symphonic metal band SEVEN SPIRES. With its foundations tracing back to 2008, AMARANTHE has released five albums thus far, consistently delivering hauntingly catchy tunes led by their unique three-part vocals. Within their arsenal of hit singles, a myriad tracks have been received very well via press and fans alike; having also gained countless plays on both radio stations around the globe and across streaming services (the group's songs have been streamed more than 100 million times on Spotify). A string of support tours has blazed AMARANTHE's trail in front of huge crowds as well as at their own headline concerts (the group impressively once performed in front of 10,000 fans at Liseberg, Gothenburg). They have kept working incredibly hard over the years, the latest product of which culminated in the form of 2018's "Helix", which achieved them some of their highest chart positions in the band's history. AMARANTHE is currently on tour in Europe as the support act for Swedish metal giants SABATON alongside Finnish cello metallers APOCALYPTICA.

Billy Bragg and Taylor Swift have struck up an unlikely friendship after the pair presented the Godlike Genius gong to Glastonbury boss Emily Eavis at the NME Awards 2020.

The pair joined forces on Wednesday to present the final award of the night. Bragg has curated Glastonbury’s Leftfield area since 2002, while Swift will headline the final night of the festival in June this year.

Hailing his co-presenter, Bragg wrote on Twitter: “I don’t know who was more surprised to learn that we were co-presenting an award at the NME Awards last night, me or @taylorswift13. I have a lot of respect for her and the stand she has taken on equality and artist’s rights. Needless to say we got on like a house on fire.”

Responding in turn, Swift hailed the folk icon as a “new friend”.

“It was excellent meeting you and this is so nice of you to say, See you at Glasto, new friend!,” she wrote.

Bragg then warned Swift to bring her wellies – a reference to Glastonbury’s notorious mud.

The exchange immediately generated excitement among fans, with some calling for the pair to collaborate on a track together.

In a lengthier post on Instagram, Bragg described their unlikely pairing as “chalk and cheese”, and explained how their co-presenting was arranged at the very last minute.
“I don’t know if she was as surprised as I was, but we had time for a brief chat about pop and politics and when I asked for a photo, she took my phone and shot a couple of pics before someone turned on the lights- like the blue one I posted last night – and then a couple more,” wrote Bragg.

“You might think we were chalk and cheese but I admire her willingness to take a stand on issues and her struggle to own her back catalogue resonates with me, as I underwent a similar struggle in the 1980s.

“It was a somewhat surreal pairing – I think that’s why the @NMEmagazine put us together – but we got on like a house on fire. More power to her, I say.”

Before presenting the award, Bragg also told NME of the importance of securing gender balances on festival bills across the globe.

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker explains why he revised ‘Borderline’ for ‘The Slow Rush’

“I was so in my own head about the song”

Today (February 14), Tame Impala released their new album, ‘The Slow Rush’ – which features a new version of the previously released track ‘Borderline’. In a new interview, Kevin Parker has explained why he put an alternate version on the record.

‘Borderline’ had a 4:34 runtime when it was initially released in 2019. The album version shaves just over 30 seconds off the track’s length, and makes the bassline more prominent. Hear the version of ‘Borderline’ on ‘The Slow Rush’ here:

In an interview with Lucy Smith of Australian radio station triple j, which was released on YouTube yesterday (February 13), Parker laughs when the presenter brings up the adjusted track (“speaking of overthinking things…”).

“I was so in my own head about the song,” Parker grimaces. “The way I describe it is the way it sounds now is the way I was hearing it when I released it the first time. So for me, the drums sounded just heaps more hard-hitting.

“And it was just things that I could hear in the song that I didn’t realise no one else could, for example, the bassline, which was just kind of an example of lack of perspective when you’re working on a song, or anything that anyone’s working on ever. You lose perspective when you’re working on it, which is good, too, it’s kind of beautiful that you have no idea what you’re doing.”

Parker then added he realised listeners tended not to hear the bassline in the first version: “It just sounds like it’s mixed in with the song… I just realised I wasn’t finished with it.”

Stream the 2019 version of ‘Borderline’ below:

He then concurred with Smith that readjusting songs could be a “slippery slope”. “It’s dangerous,” he said. “But I also think the way the world changes and the way the music changes and the way it’s made, it paves the way for things like that that are new and scary at the time.

“But at the end of the day, music is what music is because of the way we listen to it and the way we made it. The fact that songs are usually four minutes and albums usually 40 minutes – it’s kind of just like, why are those things the way we are?”

Watch Smith’s full interview with Parker on triple j here:

‘The Slow Rush’ is Tame Impala’s fourth studio album. Besides ‘Borderline’, it also featured the singles ‘It Might Be Time’, ‘Posthumous Forgiveness’ and ‘Lost In Yesterday’.

In a separate interview, Parker revealed the album was influenced by Travis Scott and shopping while stoned.

‘The Batman’ movie: release date, plot details, cast and everything we know so far

R-Batz is coming to a cinema near you

Over the years, more than a few of Hollywood’s biggest names have donned the cowl. From Adam West’s lycra-clad crusader in the ’60s, to Christian Bale and his gritty, gravel-voiced modern take on Gotham’s protector – every new actor has something different to add to the role. Now, there’s a new dark knight on the prowl.

Directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and starring some of Hollywood’s hottest talent, Warner Bros’ upcoming superhero drama is a whole new take on the world’s greatest detective. Similar – but not connected – to this year’s Joker origin story, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson in the lead and will be a standalone effort.

Eager to know more? Here’s everything we know so far about The Batman movie…

Latest update:

  • The film has released a full scene online depicting a funeral suddenly crashed by a car in a plot by the Riddler.
  • The film has a running time of two hours and 55 minutes, including eight minutes of credits.
  • The Batman has been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association.
  • Warner Bros. has shared a new set of images which includes a closer look at Paul Dano’s Riddler and Colin Farrell as Penguin, as well as some behind-the-scenes shots.
  • Producer Dylan Clark has said they’ve told Christopher Nolan directly they’re trying to “beat” The Dark Knight trilogy with The Batman.
  • Zoe Kravitz has said that she wants her take on Catwoman to feel like a “real person”.
  • Colin Farrell says his screen time as the Penguin in the film is very limited.
  • Director Matt Reeves has confirmed that the film wrapped production in mid-March 2021, a year out from its release date.

When is The Batman out in cinemas?

The Batman is due in US cinemas on March 4, 2022. Its original release date of 25 June 2021 has been shifted due to delays related to the coronavirus, first to October 2021 and now to the following year.

A UK release date has yet to be confirmed – but production has been confirmed to be able to resume in September 2020, on the condition of shooting on purpose-built sets rather than on location as was the case before the global lockdown.

What’s The Batman‘s working title?

According to a recent listing on the website Production Weekly, The Batman‘s working title as it heads into production is currently Vengeance.

Who is in The Batman cast?

Robert Pattinson as the Batman

UPDATE: Robert Pattinson begins training for The Batman movie.

Robert Pattinson has officially begun preparing for Batman’s action sequences, as the first photos of him in training have been released.

The actor has been working with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu red and black belt athlete Rigan Machado, who has worked with the likes of Vin Diesel, Ashton Kutcher and Charlie Hunnam in the past.

Machado posted a series of Instagram images with the caption “Jiujitsu brother”, showing the actor in fighting mode on a training mat.

Pat-man is actually happening, folks. The former Twilight icon turned indie star was announced earlier this year, but he’s not completely sure how it happened at all. “It’s kind of insane,” Pattinson told Esquire this month. “I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all.”

Pattinson previously teased an “interesting direction” for the new movie, saying it would be “something from the comics which hasn’t really been explored yet”.

In an interview with Access in October 2019, Pattinson revealed that his The Lighthouse co-star Willem Dafoe could inspire his take on Batman’s recognisable voice.

“Willem’s voice in this is quite inspiring for it to be honest. It is pretty similar to the voice I’m gonna do,” he explained. “I think Batman has a sort of pirate-y kind of voice, I think that would really suit him.”

Originally, Ben Affleck was supposed to reprise the role he’d filled for 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League. However, circumstances arose which meant the 47-year-old had to vacate the role as well as drop out of writing and directing the new project.

Pat-man: Robert Pattinson will play Bruce Wayne in a new movie, helmed by ‘Cloverfield’ director Matt Reeves.

Pattinson has revealed why he decided to return to big-budget films after a recent habit of choosing independent flicks, saying: “Big movies, generally the parts aren’t as interesting — at least the stuff that was coming my way. I guess there was some fear.”

“I think I probably would have been a little bit nervous to have gone straight into [Batman] immediately after [Twilight],” he added.

Talking about putting on the iconic Batsuit for the first time, Pattinson added: “It’s maybe the craziest thing I’ve ever done in terms of movie stuff. I put it on. I remember saying to Matt [Reeves, writer/director], ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit. You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating.

“You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’”

Pattinson has admitted that he was annoyed about the rumours of his casting before it was officially announced, mainly because he hadn’t even auditioned for the role yet and felt he might lose the role as a result.

“I hadn’t even done the audition,” he told Time Out. “It’s just nerve-wracking because I was really excited about it and you think: really, is this how I’m going to lose this role? It’s the most annoying circumstances to lose something.”

Recalling being grilled about the reports at a film premiere, the actor added: “Everyone was like: ‘Is that true, is that true?’ And it wasn’t true at the time, I hadn’t got the job. It was pretty terrifying.”

When asked by GQ why Pattinson chose to do The Batman in the first place, the actor replied, “What are the reasons not to do it?”

He added: “I kind of like the fact that not only are there very, very, very well-done versions of the character which seem pretty definitive, but I was thinking that there are multiple definitive playings of the character.

“It’s fun when more and more ground has been covered. Like, where is the gap? You’ve seen this sort of lighter version, you’ve seen a kind of jaded version, a kind of more animalistic version. And the puzzle of it becomes quite satisfying, to think: Where’s my opening?”

Pattinson also added that he was attracted by the idea of a “legacy part”, explaining the attachment to such a character.”There’s so few things in life where people passionately care about it before it’s even happened,” he began.

“You can almost feel that pushback of anticipation, and so it kind of energizes you a little bit. It’s different from when you’re doing a part and there’s a possibility that no one will even see it. Right? In some ways it’s, I don’t know… It makes you a little kind of spicy.”

Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman

UPDATE: Speaking about landing the part of Catwoman, Zoe Kravitz told Variety: “I was excited when I got the role, and usually when you get a job the people who are excited about it are you, your parents, your agent, your friends and that’s kind of it.

“But when the press release came, I got more text messages and calls than I’ve gotten on my birthday, on my wedding day. All of a sudden, the reality began to sink in about what this means not only to me, but to everybody else culturally — and the fans of this universe are so dedicated and opinionated.”

She added: “Of course, I want to honor the fans and hope they like what I do with the role, but in order to do what I think I need to do with Catwoman I have to go internal and forget about the rest of the world.”

As for working with Pattinson, Kravitz revealed ahead of filming: “I’ve never worked with him before, but we’ve been together for the last few weeks, I had to camera test with him and now we’ve been training together and rehearsing together and he’s just a delightful person and such a wonderful, thoughtful actor.

“I think he’s perfect for the role and it’s going to be such an adventure. I’m excited to have him as my partner in crime and to be there to support each other, because it’s intense. It’s going to be a long shoot and there’s a lot of pressure, and I know he has my back and I have his.”

Speaking to Variety again in June, she added: “First of all, he’s just a really good actor. He started out as this kind of teen pop sensation, and then I think we all kind of saw through his work that there was a lot more going on. He’s a really interesting artist, and that is very much Batman in a way.

“We have the illusion of Bruce Wayne, and then we have Batman in the shadows that has a lot more complicated things going on. So just in that, I think he’s perfect for this role. He can relate in that way, and he looks good in the suit, man.”

Catwoman: Zoe Kravitz will portray Selina Kyle, as Halle Berry did back in 2004. Image: Getty / Alamy

For the part of Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Reeves has turned to someone a little more experienced in the art of the comic book movie.

Following her stint voicing the same character in The Lego Batman Movie (2017), Zoe Kravitz will star as Kyle, athletic burglar and – per the comics – long-running love interest of Batman.

As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter last week (October 15), Kravitz clinched the role after reading with Pattinson and three other candidates. Director Matt Reeves seemed to confirm the casting on social media when he tweeted a short video of Kravitz answering her phone.

As part of her cover interview with AnOther, Krazitz described the role as “very physically demanding.”

“I had to be in very specific shape, and there’s a pandemic going on,” she recalled. “I’m being zipped into a catsuit every day at 7am, working 12-hour days and then coming home and working out. It was intense.”

The actor said that she took care to ensure that her version of Catwoman was seen as a “real person.”

“I tried to think about it not as Catwoman, but as a woman,” she said. “How does this make me feel? How are we approaching this and how are we making sure we’re not fetishising or creating a stereotype? I knew it needed to be a real person.”

Paul Dano as The Riddler

Riddler: Paul Dano is set to play Edward Nygma, as Jim Carrey did in 1995’s ‘Batman Forever’. Credit: Getty

Many fans can still remember Jim Carrey’s take on the crazed supervillain (1995’s Batman Forever), but now another of Hollywood’s zaniest stars will put their spin on Edward Nigma.

Paul Dano (Little Miss SunshineThere Will Be Blood) hit the headlines last week when it was revealed he was in talks to take on a role in Reeves’ The Batman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dano was confirmed last week, after previous rumours suggested Jonah Hill would be coming on board as the project’s lead villain.

Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon

Chief of Police: Jeffrey Wright will take on the role of Commissioner Gordon, as Gary Oldman did in ‘The Dark Knight’. Image: Getty / Alamy

Light the Bat-signal, there’s a new police chief in town. Rumoured for most of the summer, Westworld favourite Jeffrey Wright has signed up to play Commissioner James W. Gordon in Reeves new movie.

Reluctant ally of Batman and detective for Gotham City Police Department, Gordon was previously played by Oscar-winner Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s critically-acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy. He is a suspicious-yet-loyal servant of justice who always has the public’s interest at heart.

John Turturro as Carmine Falcone

Director Matt Reeves confirmed the casting of Turturro via Twitter on November 22. The actor will portray the underground crime boss who was first seen in 1987’s Batman: Year One.

Carmine Falcone has previously been played by Tom Wilkinson in 2005’s Batman Begins, with John Doman also taking on the role for the Gotham TV show.

Peter Sarsgaard

UPDATE: Matt Reeves confirmed that Peter Sarsgaard had joined the cast on Twitter on December 6, 2019. Insiders and fans were speculating that he will take on the role of Harvey Dent, AKA the villain Two-Face.

But on January 28, 2020 in its official announcement of The Batman beginning principal photography, Warner Bros revealed Peter Sarsgaard’s character will be Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson, according to Cinema Blend.

So despite him not playing Dent, like him, Sarsgaard’s character will work as Gotham City’s chief prosecutor.

The actor already has a personal connection to the Batman franchise as his wife, Maggie Gyllenhaal, played Rachel Dawes in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

He also has a connection to DC Comics adaptations. He portrayed the villainous Hector Hammond in 2011’s Green Lantern.

Colin Farrell as The Penguin

After months of conversations, Matt Reeves seems to have confirmed that Colin Farrell will join the project after tweeting “Wait – is that you, #Oz?” alongside a GIF of the actor in In Bruges.

“Oz” refers to a shortened version of The Penguin’s full name, Oswald Cobblepot – so all signs point to Farrell finally jumping on board.

However, in an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Farrell has said that The Penguin may only be in “five or six scenes” of the film.

“I can’t wait to see the film because it won’t be ruined by my presence,” Farrell said. “I’ll get a little bit uncomfortable for the fucking nine minutes I have. I cannot wait to see how [Matt Reeves] brought this world to life.”

Rupert Penry-Jones as Gotham City mayor Don Mitchell

Spooks and The Strain actor Rupert Penry-Jones confirmed his role in February 2020 after several rumours circulated online. Penry-Jones spoke to ITV’s This Morning about his experiences on set, revealing that he had a chat with Colin Farell (The Penguin) without realising who he was.

“I arrived on set and there was this guy walking around who was being so over confident. I had no idea who he was. He was being really friendly, he was telling all these stories, I was like, ‘Who is this guy?'” Penry-Jones said [quotes transcribed by Digital Spy].

“I thought he might’ve been a supporting actor [an extra to you and me]. He kept on talking to me, just really friendly, really nice, and I started noticing things about his costume.

“He had a brace on his leg and these weird scars on his face, and I thought, ‘This is quite a lot of effort they’ve gone to for a supporting artist…’ and suddenly I realised, ‘Wait a minute this guy must be playing the Penguin, oh my God that’s Colin Farrell!’

“I was looking right up, almost nose-to-nose with his face trying to see,” the actor added. “You could not tell, it was amazing,” he said.

Who else might be in the cast of The Batman?

A trio of huge names have also been linked with roles as villains in The Batman.

According to We Got This Covered, True Detective star Matthew McConaughey is reportedly in talks to play Two-Face/Harvey Dent.

Matthew McConaughey

He could be joined by Gollum actor Andy Serkis, who, as The Wrap report, is in talks to take on the role of Alfred Pennyworth.

Another role also looks set to have been filled for the new film – up-and-comer Jayme Lawson is set to play a secret role in the film according to Collider.

Johnny Depp

We Got This Covered also suggested Johnny Depp might be in line to play the Joker in Reeves’ trilogy. Warner Bros have allegedly been eyeing Depp for the role for some time, and could offer a “campy” offering for the films to come.

Can we see any photos of The Batman?

On January 8, 2022, Warner Bros. shared two new images of villains Riddler (played by Paul Dano) and Penguin (Colin Farrell), as well as some other pics and a pair of behind-the-scenes photos.

Director Matt Reeves has shared the first footage from the set of The Batman. In the new video, dark and foreboding music is immediately heard before we eventually receive our first look at Robert Pattinson as The Caped Crusader.

Although shrouded in darkness, we can definitely see Batman’s iconic cowl. Check that out below.

The film released a full near-three minute scene of a funeral on January 30, 2022, which is crashed suddenly by a car driven by bomb-strapped victim District Attorney Gil Colson (Peter Sarsgaard). We also get a glimpse of Paul Dano’s Riddler lurking in the background.

Check it out below:

What is the plot of The Batman?

Little is known of Matt Reeves upcoming solo adventure, but we have been told it will focus on Bruce Wayne’s younger, more vulnerable years. Other sources claim the film will be set during the 1990s and could show a fresher, less-grizzled version of the Caped Crusader making use of his detective skills, rather than brute strength.

Similarly to Batman Forever, The Batman will see Bats face off against an assortment of baddies from throughout his career. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, director Reeves revealed his film will feature “a rogues gallery” of villains getting up to no good.

Colin Farrell, who will play The Penguin in the film, has spoken about the script, calling it “gorgeous” while giving little away as to specifics.

“I’m in the process of talking to Matt Reeves, who’s the director, who wrote the script, and wrote a really beautiful, dark, moving script, really gorgeous,” Farrell told Jimmy Fallon. “It’s all very hush hush,” he added, “but it’s a really beautiful script that he wrote and he has a real love for it, Matt. So, we’re in the process of finishing designing the aesthetic of the character.”

Reeves has also spoken about his idea to give The Batman a “humanist” bent.

Talking with Nerdist, he explained his plan as: “I’m going to pitch the version of Batman that I would do, which is going to have a humanist bent. And who knows if they’ll have any interest? If they don’t, then I won’t do it. And that’ll be okay… I was really lucky that they said yes.”

He added that he doesn’t plan for the film to be an origin tale (presumably that means we won’t have to see Wayne’s parents die again). “I wanted to do not an origin tale, but a tale that would still acknowledge his origins, in that it formed who he is. Like this guy, he’s majorly struggling, and this is how he’s trying to rise above that struggle,” Reeves said.

“But that doesn’t mean that he even fully understands, you know. It’s that whole idea of the shadow self and what’s driving you, and how much of that you can incorporate, and how much of it you’re doing that you’re unaware of.”

He also added that he wants his version of this Batman character to not be “fully formed” yet. He said: “I just felt like well, what I’d love to do is to get a version of this Batman character where he’s not yet fully formed.

“Where there’s something to do in this context with who that guy would be in this world today, and to ground him in all of these broken ways. Because at the end of the day, this guy is doing all of this to deal with trauma in his past.”

Additionally, Jeffrey Wright, who was Reeves’ choice as Commissioner Gordon, has spoken to Collider about Reeves’ vision for the movie and how he’s approaching his role. “What I do is going to be very specific to Matt Reeves’ vision of Gotham, and it’s going to be reflective of what Robert Pattinson’s Batman is going to be. To pluck one character out of the whole, is a forced idea.

“All of us are working together to create a tone and a language and an energy and a vibe that is specific to our film.”

Reeves also recently told The Daily Beast that his ambition was to make a “Batman movie that could be different.”

“There have been some great Batman movies, and I didn’t want to just do a Batman movie. I wanted to do a Batman movie that could be different,” the filmmaker explained.

“I pitched [Warner Bros] what I would do, and I said, look, I appreciate that you want me to do a Batman movie, but I don’t want to just do a Batman movie; I want to do a Batman movie that has a chance to be something different, and humanist, and can use the metaphors of the genre.”

Talking further about the new film in an interview with SiriusXM (via The Hollywood Reporter), Wright called the film the “next evolution” of Gotham.

“Like with any film, we’re working together to create a mood, to create an idea, a setting, a tone,” Wright said. “This is the next evolution since 1939 when these stories began.”

“This is the next evolution of Gotham,” Wright added. “So I am working off the stage [director] Matt [Reeves] is providing and also working off what [star] Robert [Pattinson] is doing. We are trying to create something together that is our own, but is also Batman.”

Wright also called the film’s Batmobile the “most badass muscle car you could imagine. It’s grounded in Gotham. It’s grounded in Americana.”

Co-writer Mattson Tomlin said in August 2020 that the film will dig deep into Batman’s trauma. He discussed Reeves as a filmmaker during an interview with Den Of Geek, saying that Reeves is “always coming from a point of emotion” rather than focusing purely on action.

“I think that really looking at Batman as somebody who has gone through this trauma, and then everything that he’s doing is then a reaction to that, rather than shy away from that, I think this film leans into that in some very fun and surprising ways,” Tomlin said.

The recent trailer suggests that The Court of Owls could play a major part in the film, as explained in a theory from ScreenRant. The Court are “a secret society of wealthy politicians” who Bruce believed to be responsible for the murder of his parents as a child.

The key clue in the trailer is a card left by The Riddler, which as well as containing a riddle inside, has an image on the front which is an owl, teasing that the Court of Owls could in fact be an antagonist to look out for in the film.

“Since The Riddler seems to be directly addressing Batman at each of his crime scenes, he might also be trying to tip Batman off to the existence to the Court, since he knows that Batman has positioned himself as a figure of justice within Gotham City,” ScreenRant explained.

Where will The Batman be set?

It’s fair to say that The Batman will be likely mostly be set in Gotham, but where specifically? According to Variety, “a handful of scenes” will be filmed in Arkham Asylum, the high-security prison known to comic book fans for housing super-criminals. The film won’t be fully set in Arkham bu the hospital will be featured in some capacity. This comes after it was theorised by fans that writer/director Matt Reeves may be partially drawing inspiration from Rocksteady’s popular Batman: Arkham Asylum video game that saw Batman locked in the psychotic psychiatric institution along with many of his greatest foes.

Is The Batman a sequel to Joker?

In short, no. Speaking at a recent promotional event for horror thriller The Lighthouse, Pattinson described Reeves’ movie as “kind of a different world”. That being said, Warner Bros. appears to be trying to craft a scarier, more gritty extended universe for its DC Comics characters, with one-off origin stories forming the focus of their new direction.

In addition, we saw Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck meet Bruce Wayne for the first time in Joker. Just a young schoolboy, Wayne looked more than a bit perturbed by his future nemesis. Could this fresh-faced upstart grow into Pattinson’s Batman? We’ll have to wait and see.

Is there any connection to The Dark Knight trilogy?

Nope, although the film’s producer Dylan Clark has said they told Christopher Nolan, director of The Dark Knight trilogy, that they’re trying to beat his films with The Batman.

Speaking to Empire, Clark said: “I’ve said this to Chris Nolan directly: ‘Look, we’re trying to be the best Batman ever made, and we’re going to try to beat you.’”

He added: “Matt [Reeves] is interested in pushing this character to his emotional depths and shaking him to his core.”

What’s the age rating for The Batman?

The Batman has earned a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association in the US.

As reported by Variety, The Batman was rated PG-13 for “strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material.” It’s believed there’s minimal bad language and violent scenes are related to car crashes and explosions.

How long is The Batman?

As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, The Batman will be the longest Batman film ever, clocking in at two hours and 55 minutes with eight minutes of credits.

We named Beach Bunny our February Artist of the Month on the strength of their debut album, Honeymoon. Today, the Chicago indie pop act has formally released that effort, and you can stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify. Following that, read the band’s complete Track by Track breakdown of the LP.

The Valentine’s Day release comes via Mom+Pop and follow’s the group’s four self-released EPs. Beach Bunny — made up of singer/guitarist Lili Trifilio, guitarist Matt Henkels, bassist Anthony Vaccaro, and drummer Jonathan Alvarado — were joined by producer Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Joyce Manner) to record the LP at Chicago’s Electrical Audio.

“Definitely listen to it in order, because it ends on a happy note,” Trifilio told Consequence of Sound’s Tyler Clark during their AOTM interview. “So maybe if you’re feeling depressed on Valentine’s Day, it’ll lift your spirits up a little. Treat yourself if you’re single. Maybe take yourself out and listen to it in the restaurant on your AirPods.”

Before releasing Honeymoon, Beach Bunny shared the singles “Dream Boy” (the Origins of which the band detailed for us before we named it one of our favorites songs of 2019), “Ms. California”, and “Cloud 9”. In support of the album, the foursome will head out on a full tour that includes stops at Shaky Knees, Coachella, and Primavera Sound. Get tickets to all their upcoming shows here.

Below, Beach Bunny have given a detailed Track by Track breakdown of Honeymoon.

“Promises”:
This is the most honest and vulnerable song on the record. I wrote it during a post-breakup moment of uncertainty in dealing with my feelings. It is a song that began in 2017 and was re-worked several times over the following years until it said everything it needed to say. Originally “Promises” was going to debut on my EP Crybaby, but I’m glad It’s made its way onto Honeymoon. It evokes the feelings of loving someone while simultaneously hating them, which typically follows heartbreak. It was meant to be a true heartbreak anthem for myself when I was dealing with a lot of pain.

“Cuffing Season”:
“Cuffing Season” is a song about feeling doubt in a relationship. The lyrics discuss uncertainty in the future of a budding relationship as we exit out of the honeymoon stage and problems start arising. “Cuffing Season” was named after the period of the year when everyone wants to buckle down with someone romantically, however, the lyrics highlight the urge to break free from romance, worry, and other unsettling emotions.

“April”:
“April” is a song about regret and mourning memories. The lyrics talk of wishful thinking and romanticizing the prior relationship in a very grief-stricken way. Originally, “April” was written as a sappy Christmas song, but I loved the melody and decided to alter the lyrics to write something a little more genuine. “April” unintentionally follows the pattern of other Beach Bunny month themed songs ie: “July”, “February” as far as the title goes.

“Rearview”:
This is a song about insecurity. The lyrics talk about not feeling good enough for someone and not good enough for oneself. The whole theme is about feeling unworthy of love, which is something I experienced during the time I was writing it. The song also touches on struggle, long-term grief, and comparison to others. It is less about the relationship with the other person and more about the relationship with oneself.

“Ms. California”:
“Ms. California” is an upbeat track that drives home a theme of whiny jealousy. It’s the feeling you get when you want to be with someone but their heart’s in another place. To me, it reminds me of when a child wants a toy and their parent takes it away – it’s not about deep-set envy but more of an irritated, frustrated anthem of wanting what you can’t have.

“Colorblind”:
“Colorblind” is a song about boundaries. The lyrics talk about an on and off again relationship where one person is consistently getting hurt and doesn’t want to deal with it anymore. The lyrics have a bitter, snappy tone to them as the person keeps apologizing for past mistakes but doesn’t change. It’s a song about knowing when to let go and walk away from a painful situation and not take crap from people who don’t respect your feelings or have integrity.

“Racetrack”:
“Racetrack” is a slow, quiet anthem about feeling like you’re constantly in second place. It’s also the second song off the album that majorly talks about insecurity, this time more relationship oriented with another person than oneself.

“Dream Boy”:
This is a song about new love and giving love a second chance. The lyrics talk about being hurt in the past and having a guarded heart but that this love feels different. It’s a song about having a crush on someone special or falling back in love with someone all over again.

“Cloud 9”:
“Cloud 9” is a proper love song about feeling like you’re in the clouds when you’re in love with someone. I wanted to end the album with a proper happy, no strings attached, track which is where the idea sparked. It is also an ode to my little snail son Nigel who passed away last year but I will adore forever.
