Destiny 3

Despite Bungie looking to make Destiny 2 an ever-evolving game, it seems a sequel could be in development.

First released in 2017, Bungie has constantly updated Destiny 2 with sprawling expansions, updated storylines and new items. However, that has meant the studio has had to delete older content from the game.

The desire to create a constantly-evolving game has also meant that any conversations about a potential Destiny 3 have quickly been shut down.

However, during a recent preview of upcoming expansion The Final Shape, executive creative director Luke Smith shared a message about the future of the game (via ResetEra).

“The Final Shape is the culmination of a ten-year journey. It’s a journey that will end with you inside The Traveler, facing the Witness. But facing The Witness is not the end of Destiny 2, and it’s definitely not the end of Destiny,” he teased. “After you face The Witness, we’re gonna tell you what’s coming next to Destiny 2 and beyond. We’ll see you soon.”

So far, so vague, especially with a number of video games getting turned into TV series in recent months.

However, during the preview of The Final Shape, Bungie confirmed a new Prismatic subclass that allows players to mix and match features from other subclasses. A month ago, a leaker on Reddit described that exact same class, alongside news of Destiny 3.

Destiny 3 is (was) in development under the name Payback,” 32638272187 wrote. ”One of the big changes is for classes to no longer exist,” he added.

Of course, the leak was met with the usual speculation but following the confirmation that the information about Prismatic was correct, fans are starting to believe that Bungie could well be working on Destiny 3. “Coming back a month later to apologise for thinking you were full of shit,” reads one reply to the initial rumour. “Can you leak more,” said another player.

Last year, the release of The Final Shape was delayed until June 2024 to allow developers time to make the expansion “bigger and better” while Marathon – a multiplayer shooter that will task players with exploring an interstellar colony in search of loot – still doesn’t have a release date.

In other news, Fortnite has confirmed another crossover with Coachella Festival with a range of emotes, items, experiences and songs coming to the game this weekend.
