Flaming Lips, Courtney Marie Andrews, Low, Weyes Blood and Richard Thompson are among the names to have contributed bespoke covers to a new album celebrating the life and work of Bob Dylan.

With the icon set to celebrate his 80th birthday on May 24, Uncut‘s June issue comes with ‘Dylan Revisited’ – a covermount CD made up of 14 cover versions of choice cuts from Dylan’s songbook recorded exclusively for Uncut, as well as a previously unreleased track from the man himself.

“Being asked to cover a Dylan song is quite difficult,” Thompson admits in the magazine. “You think, ‘How do you do that?’ After all, his personality is so interwoven into the songs.”

Other contributions to the exclusive collection, which will not be available anywhere else, include reimaginings from Thurston Moore and Fatoumata Diawara, textured soundscapes from Low and Weyes Blood, epic grandeur from Cowboy Junkies and Frazey Ford and much more – as well as an exclusive acoustic cut of Dylan’s ‘Too Late’ from his legendary archives.

Dylan’s birthday will also be celebrated next month with a special tribute concert in New York led by Patti Smith.

Back in March, Sally Grossman, the wife of Bob Dylan‘s former manager Albert and star of the singer’s most iconic cover art, died aged 81.

Last year saw Dylan release the acclaimed ‘Rough And Rowdy Ways‘, before going on to sell his entire songwriting catalogue to Universal Music.

Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival is set to be the first major US festival to take place since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, after organisers confirmed its return next month.

The EDM festival will return to Sin City from May 21-23, although it has yet to be confirmed whether the event will operate at a reduced capacity.

“We are moving forward as planned and will be working closely with local and state officials to make the show as safe as possible,” said Pasquale Rotella, founder of EDC’s Insomniac Events.

“You can expect the full EDC experience with no details spared, from the festival grounds to the music, stages, art, performers, artists & fireworks!”

Previous editions of EDC have attracted upwards of 120,000 attendees, while the state of Nevada is currently under a statewide mask and social distancing mandate that is likely to still be in place when the festival takes place next month.

Confirmation of the event comes after it was confirmed that Bonnaroo will return this September with a line-up led by Foo FightersMegan Thee StallionLizzoTame ImpalaTyler, The Creator and Lana Del Rey.

The festival – which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in Manchester, Tennessee – will take place from September 2 to 5.

BLABBERMOUTH.NET

The original lineup of Puerto Rico's Latin metal pioneers PUYA has begun tracking some new material. The band has reunited with frontman Sergio Curbelo and has added percussion from Oscar Santiago (ex-ILL NIÑO). The new songs will be engineered by Jarrett Pritchard (1349, GOATWHORE) while Chris "Zeuss" Harris (ROB ZOMBIE, HATEBREED) will mix and master with Miguel "Mick Blazzing" Blasini as executive producer. The video for PUYA's new single, "Potencial", can be seen below. PUYA drummer Eduardo Paniagua states: "We came to Jarrett Pritchard in Orlando to record our new record on two-inch tape and the one and only producer Zeuss will be mixing it. Enjoy this new single that was recorded during the pandemic called 'Potencial' and our new video to support it." PUYA is widely known as the most prominent Latin metal band historically to come out of the Caribbean. For over two decades, they have built a loyal fan base all over the world with their unique blend of metal, which has earned them the respect and admiration from the music industry as well as their faithful followers worldwide. Since the early '90s, PUYA has set itself apart with its unique brand of Latin metal by blending aggressive power riffs with traditional Latin rhythms. The band was founded in 1990 by guitarist Ramon Ortiz and bassist Harold Hopkins. Soon after, drummer Eduardo Paniagua joined the group and singer Sergio Curbelo completed the original lineup two years later. PUYA returned to the stage by headlining festivals in the late 2000s and busting out independent releases such as the "Areyto" EP, the live DVD "Pa Ti En Vivo" and the live album "Vital". In February, 2020 their new single "Viento" was released on all digital platforms.

‘Taskmaster’ fans dub latest challenge the “grossest ever”

“I’m peeling sick looking at this”

Taskmaster fans have dubbed the latest challenge on the Channel 4 show as the “grossest ever”.

In last night’s (April 8) episode, contestants Lee Mack, Charlotte Ritchie, Mike Wozniak, Sarah Kendall and Jamali Maddix had to find a way of getting a frozen banana inside a wine bottle stuffed with jelly.

Aided by various kitchen utensils, they all carved very different paths towards the finish line, with Mack and Ritchie even resorting to chewing up the banana in the hope of spitting it through the small gap.

This saw many fans taking to Twitter to express their disgust. One fan wrote that “they will never eat banana again” while another dubbed it the “grossest task ever”.

Another also said it was “more disgusting than Richard Herring and Daisy May Cooper [previously] ferociously feeding watermelon to each other”. You can view a host of responses below.

The gameshow, which sees hosts Greg Davies and Alex Horne set weird tasks and challenges for celebrity contestants, moved over to Channel 4 from comedy channel Dave last year.

In other Taskmaster news, Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan joined the show’s New Year special. She competed alongside actor John Hannah (Four Weddings and a Funeral), journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy, presenter Rylan Clark-Neal and Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas.

Taskmaster has aired for over 80 episodes in the UK so far, with a further 51 allocated as part of a six-season deal confirmed with Channel 4 last year.
