Grimes has released a new song off her long-awaited album, Miss Anthropocene. While beau Elon Musk has been channeling EDM in his own creative pursuits, “Delete Forever” sees Grimes looking to Oasis and Lil Peep for inspiration.

According to the electropop artist, the track is about the opioid epidemic and was written in 2017 the night that emo rapper Lil Peep died from an accidental drug overdose. Speaking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Grimes said she was aiming for a Patsy Cline or country sound, but that “Delete Forever” ended up “having this sort of like ‘Wonderwall’ kind of vibe or something.” She added, “I feel like there’s a reason that song is so popular. Like, that song does rule.”

Update: Watch the music video for “Delete Forever” below.

One of the most anticipated records of 2020, Miss Anthropocene is due to drop February 21st. In the months leading up to the project, mother-to-be Grimes has shared tracks like “My Name is Dark” and “Violence”.

Check out Grimes’ statement on “Delete Forever” below, followed by video of her Zane Lowe interview.

“I mean, the song is pretty, it’s a pretty bummer song. Oh my God, I’m so bad at talking about this song. I guess this song is kind of- I guess it’s kind of about the opioid epidemic and that kinda thing ’cause uh, I’ve had like, quite a few friends actually like, pass away in particular one friend when I was like 18 passed away, from complications related to opioid addiction. It’s just like, you know, artists keep dying and stuff so, I wrote this song on the night Lil Peep died or whatever ’cause I just got super- super triggered by that.”

“It’s funny ’cause the finished product, is actually basically almost the demo. Like, this was definitely a situation where I took the song, made the song, and spent like months trying to make the song, you know- Like, uh. Like it needs at least one other guitar, you know, like just kinda like, trying to make it something, and then like right when we were mixing, like right at the last minute, I was just like literally, went to the 800 files and just like delete, delete, delete, delete, delete, like deleting just killing stems and then- I think like at the- when I was making this song I was trying to be more like, I think I was like, oh, I’m like Patsy Cline or something, like I was trying to be like country or something- But I feel like its- it ends up having this sort of like Wonderwall kind of vibe or something. I feel like there’s a reason that song is so popular. Like, that song does rule.”

Drive-By Truckers co-lead Patterson Hood speaks with Kyle Meredith about the band’s latest LP, The Unraveling. The Athens, GA group found themselves writing arguably their darkest record, an unintended follow up to 2016’s American Band that surveys the political landscape in real time. Hood talks about the difficulty of explaining the latest headlines to his kids, from school shootings to our own government putting babies in cages.

We also hear how the song “21st Century USA” became a turning point in Hood’s writing, the ridiculous nature of “flat-earthers”, and the extremely important need to get Mitch McConnell out of government. On the lighter side, we also hear about recording in Sam Phillips’ Memphis studio and making music to match the lyrics in the way you’d score a film.

A teaser for "Bum Rush", the next single from BODY COUNT, the metal band fronted by hip-hop legend, actor and director Ice-T, is available below. BODY COUNT recently finished filming a music video for the song, which is taken from the group's seventh studio album, "Carnivore", due on March 6 via Century Media. BODY COUNT's second album for Century Media continues the path of its uncompromising and critically acclaimed predecessors, "Bloodlust" (2017) and "Manslaugther" (2014), in pairing Ice-T's impassioned and socio-critical lyrics with thick guitar riffs and nods to metal and hardcore greats like SLAYER, METALLICA, PANTERA, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. Bangers like "Thee Critical Beatdown", "The Hate Is Real" and the title track will please old-school BODY COUNT fans, while "Colors" is a killer metal version of Ice-T's 1988 hit single of the same name. With MOTÖRHEAD's classic "Ace Of Spades", BODY COUNT is again paying tribute to one of its major musical influences. "When I'm Gone" shows a new side of BODY COUNT and features guest vocals by Amy Lee (EVANESCENCE). Other guest musicians include Dave Lombardo (ex-SLAYER), Jamey Jasta (HATEBREED) and Riley Gale (POWER TRIP). "Carnivore" will be available as a digipak CD, as gatefold LP+CD (including bonus track) and as limited 2CD box set (including three bonus tracks, the instrumental version of the album, a BODY COUNT beanie, a metallic pin and a poster featuring the fantastic cover artwork created by Zbigniew M. Bielak). "Carnivore" track listing: 01. Carnivore 02. Point The Finger (feat. Riley Gale) 03. Bum Rush 04. Ace Of Spades 05. Another Level (feat. Jamey Jasta) 06. Colors (2020) 07. No Remorse 08. When I'm Gone (feat. Amy Lee) 09. Thee Critical Beatdown 10. The Hate Is Real

Michael Hirst has shared information about the upcoming series finale of historical drama Vikings.

The second half of the sixth and final season of historical drama show is due for release later this year and should answer a cliffhanger about whether Bjorn Ironside lives or dies following a major fight.

Hirst had previously confirmed that Bjorn would die in the final season, but whether that was in the first half or the upcoming second half remains to be seen.

Speaking to Gamespot, the screenwriter did indeed confirm that Bjorn is “not dead” – but the specifics are anyone’s guess.

“If I’m bunching up a lot of people dying and a lot of endings of stories and things, I don’t want him as just one of the stories,” said Hirst in relation to Alexander Ludwig’s character.

“I want to feature him. I wanted him to have his moment and boy, does he grab this moment. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and wonderful and sort of triumphant.”

“Honestly, episode 11 will just knock your socks off. It’s so powerful. And it’s just brilliant for Alexander and in a way that’s what I wanted.”

Vikings began in 2013. A sequel series called Vikings: Valhalla is currently in the works for Netflix.

New MACHINE HEAD Song ‘Circle The Drain’ To Arrive This Friday

The second in a series of videos documenting the making of the new MACHINE HEAD song called “Circle The Drain” can be seen below. The full track will be released as a standalone single this coming Friday, February 14.

The second in a series of videos documenting the making of the new MACHINE HEAD song called "Circle The Drain" can be seen below. The full track will be released as a standalone single this coming Friday, February 14. A YouTube description of the clip reads as follows: "Jared [MacEachern, bass] and Robb [Flynn, guitar/vocals] hit Echo Mountain Recording in North Carolina while on tour in 2018 to work on ideas, but not much comes of it. Robb struggles to find a chorus lyric until a chance conversation with a friend who returned from Afghanistan and whose relationship fell apart. Navene Koperweis (ENTHEOS, WHITECHAPEL, ANIMALS AS LEADERS, ANIMOSITY) tracks drums on the track." "Circle The Drain" will follow "Do Or Die", which came out last October and was described by some fans and media outlets as a "diss" track aimed at MACHINE HEAD's detractors, in particular those who have been critical of the band's last album, 2018's "Catharsis". Speaking about MACHINE HEAD's plans to put out new music, Flynn told "Robb's MetalWorks": "I'm always writing. I just kind of am writing. I think what the plan, going forward, is we're gonna write and then record. Rather than focus on an album every three years, which is kind of the pattern we've gotten into — about every three to four years, we drop a record — to just have a steady stream of standalone singles. And then some of those singles may end up on the next record, along with probably five or six other new songs, or they may not — we're still trying to figure it out. "I love how the music industry has changed," he continued. "I love the power of the digital stuff and the ease of getting it out there to the fans. And I think we're just gonna keep doing that, man. I love the idea of dropping a new song every three or four months, rather than an album every three or four years. So we're gonna keep on doing that, and I'm excited about it." According to Flynn, the fan response to "Do Or Die" was "great." He said: "It's already at over a million streams on Spotify. We dropped it out of nowhere — no announcement; no anything. Just, like, 'Here you go.' And this isn't fucking getting played on the radio or anything. So it was really cool, man. And I'm excited to be able to do more of that. And the fans seem to be excited about that too." Last fall, MACHINE HEAD completed the first European leg of its 25th-anniversary tour for the band's classic debut, "Burn My Eyes". Each show on the trek consisted of two parts: part one saw Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern performing alongside new recruits, Polish guitarist Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka (DECAPITATED) and British drummer Matt Alston (DEVILMENT, EASTERN FRONT); while part two featured "Burn My Eyes" played in its entirety for the first time ever, with original drummer Chris Kontos and guitarist Logan Mader joining in. Flynn said that he has worked with both Mader and Kontos on some new MACHINE HEAD music. "Logan and I have already collaborated on a new song," he revealed. "I think that's another thing that's killer about it. Rather than the pressure of a record, to be able to do these standalone things and just see how it goes. "I don't know where the fuck it's gonna go," he continued. "Nobody can look into the crystal ball. I just wanna keep on writing music and dropping music. Music's been such a powerful force in my life. And if these guys wanna write music, let's do it. Let's see what comes of it and see where it goes. And get lost — get lost in the music." Asked about the musical direction of the new MACHINE HEAD material, Flynn said: "It's gonna be MACHINE HEAD. It's always gonna have that heaviness, it's always gonna have that vibe. It's gonna go everywhere. Some songs could be like 'Darkness Within'; some songs could be like fucking 'Aesthetics Of Hate'. It's everywhere in between." The North American leg of the "Burn My Eyes" 25th-anniversary tour kicked off in Phoenix on January 16 and will continue across Chicago and Denver, wrapping up at the legendary Fox Theater in Oakland, California on February 21 and House Of Blues in Anaheim, California on February 22.

Warnings is the forthcoming third album from I Break Horses, due for arrival May 8th through Bella Union. Heavily influenced by cinematic music, the follow-up to 2014’s Chiaroscuro was partially composed as singer-songwriter Maria Lindén revisited a collection of her favorite films.

Lead single “Death Engine” gave fans a first look at the new album earlier this month. The Swedish duo is now sharing a second track in “I’ll Be the Death of You”, which lands somewhere between alt-rock and new wave — specifically Primal Scream’s “Screamadelica and early OMD,” per a press statement. The fresh offering also has a noticeable sweeping, big screen quality to it, proving Lindén’s movie marathon definitely made an impression.

Check out “I’ll Be the Death of You” below via its video, helmed by Douglas Hart (My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream). “With a song so beautifully arranged and musically textured, the video needed to mirror this by using extremes of color and light to underscore the sound,” he commented. “Also musically the song has an epic quality… So the dramatic locations were chosen to match the scope of the arrangement.”
