Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard has begun a series of live-streamed performances from his home studio, as many fans continue to self-isolate due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Taking to Facebook yesterday (March 17), Gibbard thanked Death Cab’s fanbase for their loyalty, writing that he would “like to return the favour” with a series of daily sessions.
Dubbed ‘Live From Home’, the shows will see the singer perform from his home studio, where he may be joined “digitally” by various guests. Fans will also be able to request songs.
During the first broadcast, Gibbard performed The Postal Service‘s ‘We Will Become Silhouettes’, Death Cab’s ‘Crooked Teeth’ and more. He also offered up a cover of Radiohead‘s classic ‘Fake Plastic Trees’.

“I know you are all really freaked out right now. I am too,” Gibbard wrote upon the project’s announcement. “And while I’m proud that we’re all doing the necessary things at the moment to help flatten the curve, I know it has left us all incredibly isolated.
“But because we’re all going through this nightmare together we are quite literally NOT alone. Our lives and stories are all linked, maybe more now than they have ever been.”

Gibbard went on to express his gratitude for fans “choosing to congregate en masse” to experience their music in a live setting.
“Some of you have travelled great distances and/or shelled out large sums of money to see us play and that has never been lost on me,” he continued. “So in this crazy and unprecedented time, I’d like to return the favour by coming to YOU.”
Gibbard concluded by explaining that he is “still working out the details” of the project. “It will assuredly be a little wonky and glitchy but we’re gonna do our best,” he said.

This comes as a number of other artists – including Coldplay‘s Chris Martin, Neil Young and Yungblud – have stepped up in their efforts to entertain and unite fans as many continue to self-isolate.
Chris Martin took to Instagram Live to play a streamed stripped-back set of Coldplay classics yesterday, while Neil Young announced he’ll broadcast a live session from his own home.
