In a recent interview with Meltdown of Detroit's WRIF radio station, TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider was asked to name the biggest misconception about him. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "That I am either extremely left or extremely right. I'm both hailed and reviled by both sides [of the political spectrum] because I take positions on both sides, 'cause I'm a centrist. And so, as a result, you will find web sites where people are just hating on me on the left because I'm a concealed carrier, and then also people hating me on the right because I'm socially conscious. It goes back and forth. "I'm not left, I'm not right — I'm just Dee," he explained. "And I think that's where most of us lie. Most of us are kind of just trying to make the best out of it, figure out… The loudest voices in the room are on either side, and they make up about 30 percent of the population. The rest of us are just scratching our heads going, 'What the hell should we do?' They're just so loud and in everybody's faces. They say, 'We've got a web site with five thousand people.' Dude, that's a parade. There's billions of people in the world. You've got five thousand? Just shut up and do posts. It's crazy. "So, Dee's not on the left, he's not on the right — Dee's a centrist," Snider explained. "As Vice magazine called me, 'a gun-toting feminist.' So that confuses the right and the left. They go, 'Wait a second. Wait a second. He's carrying guns but he stands for women's rights? What's going on here?' So, yeah, I'm a confusing guy." Snider recently expressed his steadfast support of the people of Ukraine using TWISTED SISTER's "We're Not Gonna Take It" song as their battle cry anthem. "We're Not Gonna Take It", the biggest hit single in TWISTED SISTER's career, has been used in commercials for hotel chain Extended Stay America, Claritin, Walmart, Stanley Steamer and Yaz birth control. The song's lyrics say in part "Oh you're so condescending/Your gall is never ending/We don't want nothin'/Not a thing from you." "We're Not Gonna Take It" was written solely by Snider. As influences for the song, he previously cited the glam rock band SLADE, the punk band SEX PISTOLS, and the Christmas carol "O Come, All Ye Faithful". TWISTED SISTER called it quits in 2016 after completing a farewell 40th-anniversary tour. The band's last-ever concert took place in November of that year — 20 months after the passing of TWISTED's longtime drummer A.J. Pero.
