Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to appear in a tribute show for the late Neil Peart of Rush.

The late Rush drummer died from a brain tumour in January after quietly battling brain cancer for the past three years.

The tribute event, which takes place this Saturday night (September 12) will serve as a benefit for brain tumour research at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

A ticket to live-stream the show will cost $12.99 (£9.99) and will be aired on Fite.TV. The tribute is part of the 2020 Modern Drummer Festival.

Other drummers performing include Rick Allen of Def Leppard, Charlie Benante of Anthrax, Ray Luzier of Korn and more.

Peart, who had retired from drumming in 2015 after recording 19 studio albums with Rush, passed away at the start of the year aged 67. He was famed for being the genius behind much of Rush’s musical success.

After the news of Peart’s death broke Dave Grohl and Hawkins of Foo Fighters shared a moving tribute in his honour.

“Today, the world lost a true giant in the history of rock and roll,” Grohl said in a statement released on social media. “An inspiration to millions with an unmistakable sound who spawned generations of musicians – like myself – to pick up two sticks and chase a dream. A kind, thoughtful, brilliant man who ruled our radios and turntables not only with his drumming, but also his beautiful words.”

He concluded: “I still vividly remember my first listen of ‘2112’ when I was young. It was the first time I really listened to a drummer. And since that day, music has never been the same. His power, precision, and composition was incomparable. He was called ‘The Professor’ for a reason: We all learned from him.”

Hawkins simply added: “Neil Peart had the hands of God. End of story.”
