K-pop soloist Yuju, a member of disbanded girl group GFRIEND, has released her sophomore mini-album ‘O’ alongside a stunning visual for its title track ‘Without U’.
Today (March 7), the former GFRIEND vocalist unveiled the music video for ‘Without U’, the lead single of her brand-new mini-album ‘O’, which was released at the same time.
The new visual follows Yuju as she goes through the motions of her life alone. A light appears to her while she is out on a walk, leading her to a glowing bubble. Upon touching it, the bubble pops and rains down on the singer, who finally faces the feelings of loneliness she previously held back.
“I’m not okay, I’ve lost my way / Even if I look away, still, you’re pouring in / Nothing’s ever gon’ be the same / Not without you,” she sings on the chorus.
In addition to ‘Without U’, Yuju’s new record includes the B-sides ‘9 Years’, ‘Dreaming’, ‘Peach Blossom’ and ‘Full Circle’. The idol was the sole lyricist for all the songs on the record apart from ‘Peach Blossom’, with she penned with featuring rapper sokodomo.
The new mini-album comes a year and three months after Yuju made her solo debut with ‘Rec.’ in January 2022. During a press conference for ‘O’, the singer revealed that the long break between releases was because it was “completely made by hand”.
“I recorded so many songs in advance and selected and completed songs that fit the story of this album,” she said, as reported by Yonhap News Agency. “This is an album that compares our lives to a journey, [and] I thought the numerous flows of emotions around the journey of life resembled a circle.”
Prior to her debut as a soloist, the 25-year-old idol was a member of six-member girl group GFRIEND, best known for hits like ‘Me Gustas Tu’, ‘Time For The Moon Night’ and ‘Mago’. All six members left longtime agency Source Music in 2021 upon the expiration of their contracts, thus disbanding the group.
Yuju later signed with KONNECT Entertainment, headed by former Wanna One member and soloist Kang Daniel, under which she continues to pursue her solo music career.
