Gotham Knights

After months of teasing, Warner Bros. Games Montreal has officially announced Gotham Knights, the next instalment in the Arkham franchise.

Revealed during the DC FanDome event, the next entry is set to release in 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Accompanying the announcement was a cinematic reveal trailer and pre-alpha gameplay from the upcoming title.

The story is set to take place after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, which saw Bruce Wayne’s death in its final moments. Gotham Knights will continue Batman’s legacy with Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Redhood protecting the streets of Gotham with co-operative play.

This time around the antagonist is confirmed to be the mysterious Court Of Owls, which the developer recently teased.

Little time was spent discussing Gotham Knights as the developer also showcased eight minutes of gameplay to do the talking instead.

Starting off with Batgirl racing across Gotham on a motorcycle, the footage quickly demonstrated the series’ signature gameplay tropes such as free-flowing combat and traversal, all with the added inclusion of being joined by Robin in co-op. Interjected throughout were stunning set-pieces which culminated in a hectic boss battle with famous villain, Mr Freeze.

Gotham Knights is one of two new DC related games set to be shown during the DC FanDome event as Rocksteady Studios is also scheduled to reveal more details on Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League later today (August 22).

Little is known about the project outside of a teaser image being released which featured a character reminiscent to Superman with a target painted across his head.

Meanwhile, Marvel is set to return to the video game world next month (September) with a game centred around the Avengers. In the months after launch more heroes are expected to be added to the game and a recent datamine has seemingly revealed the developer’s plans.

Thor will also be joining Fortnite for the latest season next week (August 27). Details of his inclusion are light at present, however past Marvel crossovers have included a limited time Thanos event and Deadpool cosmetic items.
