Rock Sound Reviews

Favouring subtle layers of light and shade over big, showy moments, this Minneapolis trio channel both emo’s early days and a homespun, off-kilter vibe all of their own.

Whether it’s their idiosyncratic, sometimes oblique lyrics - dissecting the complex realities of relationships - or the odd abrupt shift in tone, these 11 tracks are anything but by-the-numbers. From dreamy interludes (‘Shore Slipper’) and flashes of heavier alt.rock (‘Dark Matter’) right up to its redemptive finale (‘Bloom’), this might not be the most accessible of listens, but it’s way more engaging than the average. Approach it with an open mind and you’ll be rewarded.
