MultiVersus The Joker

Player First Games and Warner Bros. have confirmed that Mark Hamill will be providing the voice of The Joker in MultiVersus.

Hamill first started voicing The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series, which launched in 1992, and has gone on to star in various spin-offs. His interpretation of the character is widely considered to be the definitive one, but Hamill recently confirmed his plans to step away from voicing The Joker following the death of Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy.

“Without Batman, crime has no punchline,” he explained (via GamesRadar).

However, a new MultiVersus trailer sees a Hamill-voiced Joker confront Batman, watched on by the likes of Shaggy, Ayra Stark and Bugs Bunny. He will fight using a crowbar, explosives and playing cards.

“He’s been waiting in the shadows for far too long. The Joker is officially joining the MultiVersus cast,” reads the official description.

When MultiVersus was first announced back in 2021, it was confirmed Conroy would be voicing Batman, with the lines recorded prior to his death in 2022. The pair will also appear in upcoming DC animated movie Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 3, which is due for release July 16, 2024.

MultiVersus is due for release May 28 as a free download via PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

An open-beta was shared in 2022 and quickly racked up 10million players, before it was shut down in March 2023 without much of an explanation. After eight months of silence, it was confirmed MultiVersus would be relaunching earlier this year.

“We’ve rebuilt the game from the ground up to support our new netcode to provide consistent world-class online play,” said Player First Games founder Tony Huynh in an announcement video. “So every hit, dodge, and Batarang will be delivered with pinpoint accuracy.”

MultiVersus will also launch with a new PVE mode while more heroes and personalities have been added to the roster. While it was in beta, characters from a number of DC franchises like Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Game Of Thrones, Tom and Jerry, Adventure Time, Space Jam, Rick & Morty and Gremlins all featured.

In other news, Sega has confirmed a new Sonic The Hedgehog game will be coming to mobile later this year, with up to 32 players able to go head-to-head.
