Nintendo has reportedly begun asking developers to make games 4K-ready, further suggesting at the possibility of a more powerful version of the Nintendo Switch.
A new Bloomberg report about Nintendo’s production hike included a short, but telling, mention that the Nintendo Switch upgrade is more than just a rumour. “Nintendo is making preparations for an upgraded Switch model and a beefed-up games lineup for 2021,” reads a snippet of the report.
The report went on to say: “Several outside game developers, speaking anonymously as the issue is private, said that Nintendo has asked them to make their games 4K-ready, suggesting a resolution upgrade is on its way.”
Rumours of a “pro” version of the Nintendo Switch have been floating around the Internet since the Switch Lite was announced in 2019, but picked up steam again this August when Taiwan’s Economic Daily News reported that a new version of the Switch will arrive in the first quarter of 2021. It will reportedly boast a better display and be “more interactive”.
The rest of Bloomberg’s reported also noted that Nintendo has boosted the production of the Switch console by 20 per cent. The company has reportedly increased its production goal from 25million units this fiscal year to 30million to meet consumers’ demands.
The Switch has already seen a boost in sales in 2020 thanks to the success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as well as the overall rise in demand for gaming consoles due to the coronavirus-inflicted quarantines.
In other Nintendo Switch news, a new Legend Of Zelda game called Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity has been announced. The game, which will serve as a prequel to The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, is set to launch on November 20.
