Run The Jewels

Run The Jewels have shared a video for their new single ‘Walking In The Snow’, featuring Gangsta Boo – watch it below.

Taken from the duo’s recent LP ‘RTJ4’, which was named NME‘s album of the year for 2020 earlier this month, the Chris Hopewell-directed video uses stop motion visuals that depicts Killer Mike and El-P as action figures.

The pair are thrust into a toy-populated bedroom city where authoritarian forces have seized power and routinely use violence to quell revolt. But it doesn’t take long for RTJ to discover and link up with a secret rebel force intent on overthrowing their frosty overlords.

Hopewell said of the video: “It was great to work with the RTJ guys again. Everyone was very aware of the gravity of the subject matter and RTJ didn’t want to be too obvious or on the nail with the visuals, so we went with an 80’s style fantasy look with evil snow warriors and their icy king oppressing the bedroom toys.

“It was great to be involved with a project with a positive vibe to end a pretty fucked up year. Big thanks to the RTJ crew for their truth and for letting us work with their amazing music once again.”

Reacting to news of winning NME‘s album of the year award while on Zoom call, Killer Mike said: “Get the fuck outta here! That’s amazing!” before EL-P quipped: “Suck our fucking dicks, Grammys!”

Writing about the list-topping ‘RTJ4’, NME‘s Carl Anka said: “In a year where most of our social interactions happened through a screen, RTJ4 felt like a wake-up punch to the face and a shot of tequila from your reckless best friend.

“Rapper Killer Mike and producer/rapper El-P tore through police brutality, hatred-stoking media outlets and white supremacists with gatling gun-levels of devastation across a propulsive, electrifying effort that was loud as cannons.

“It made you want to sprint into the unknown. A lot of us screamed into our pillows in anger this year, but Run The Jewels channelled that emotion to make an instant rap classic.”

Watch the duo’s reaction to winning the accolade in full below:

Earlier this month (December 2), Run The Jewels teamed up with Royal Blood on a new version of ‘RTJ4’ track ‘The Ground Below’.

“Royal Jewels is the ultimate dream come true scenario,” explained Royal Blood. “It’s an alliance we wish long continues.”
