Seth MacFarlane has said he doesn’t see “a good reason” to end Family Guy just yet.
In a new profile with The LA Times in honour of the sitcom’s 25th anniversary, the creator reflected on the show’s impressive long-running status, saying: “At this point, I don’t see a good reason to stop.
“People still love it. It makes people happy and it funds some good causes. It’s a lot of extraneous cash that you can donate to Rainforest Trust and you can still go out to dinner that night.”
MacFarlane also added: “There was a time when I thought, it’s time to wrap it up. At this point, we’ve reached escape velocity. I don’t know that there’s any reason to stop at this point unless people get sick of it. Unless the numbers show that people just are, ‘Eh, we don’t care about Family Guy anymore.’ But that hasn’t happened yet.”
Seth MacFarlane is the creator of Family Guy and voices several characters on the show, primarily Peter Griffin, Brian Griffin, Stewie Griffin, and Glenn Quagmire.
He has voiced these characters since the show’s inception, though he briefly quit in support of the SAG-AFTRA strikes and resumed once the strikes ended.
MacFarlane has since aired the TV edition of his comedy film Ted, which premiered in January this year. He reprised his role as the titular character, and also acted as director, writer, executive producer and shared showrunning duties.
In other news, MacFarlane has said he is not happy that the show is still on Fox.
