Steve Harwell

Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell has died at the age of 56.

The singer had been admitted to a hospice earlier this week as he received care in the final stages of liver failure.

As reported by TMZ yesterday (September 3), Harwell was expected to live for only “a week or so”.

Per that report, the musician struggled with alcohol abuse throughout his life. His family and friends had gathered to say their goodbyes in recent days.

Band manager Robert Hayes confirmed the news of Harwell’s death in a statement to Rolling Stone, saying that the singer died at his home in Boise, Idaho, “surrounded by family and friends.”

He added that the musician “passed peacefully and comfortably”.
