Yeasayer have sued Kendrick Lamar and the Weeknd over the Black Panther soundtrack single ‘Pray For Me’.

TMZ reports that Lamar, The Weeknd and their creative teams have allegedly lifted a “distinctive choral performance” from Yeasayer’s 2007 track “Sunrise,” tweaked it and then made it a “material and substantial portion” of their hit 2018 single, according to court documents filed on Monday.

The band claims in the lawsuit that the song infringes their ‘All Hour Cymbals’ song ‘Sunrise.’

The suit claims that Lamar and The Weeknd, real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, modified the recording with “intent to conceal the infringement” and used it at least eight times in ‘Pray for Me’.

The allegedly copied snippet is described as “comprised of male voices singing in their highest registers, with animated, pulsing vibrato.”

The filing also states: “Despite the processing, Defendants’ use of [Yeasayer’s] song nonetheless retains each of its inherent characteristics… and is immediately recognizable as [Yeasayer’s] material.

Yeasayer – who broke up at the end of 2019 – are asking for an undisclosed amount in damages and profits from “Pray for Me.”

They also want an injunction to stop all sales and licensing of the song over the alleged copyright infringement.

NME has contacted reps of The Weeknd for comment.

A My Chemical Romance fan has proved their devotion to the band, after crafting a studio mix of the intro track played at their 2019 comeback show.

The Emo icons made their return in December 2019, playing to 5000 fans at The Shrine Auditorium and Exhibition Hall.

Before taking to the stage, the band played a super-cut montage of moments from across their history – including snippets of ‘Romance’, ‘Look Alive’, ‘Sunshine’, ‘Sleep’, ‘Mama’ and ‘I’m Not Okay (I Promise)’.

But if you weren’t there, then fear not. A devoted fan has now cut together a studio version of My Chemical Romance’s intro music – and it’s a stunning effort. Check it out in full below.

Earlier this month, MCR guitarist Frank Iero playfully reminded fans about how he teased the My Chemical Romance reunion ahead of it finally being announced back in October.

Posting on Instagram last weekend, Iero shared a picture of a message from inside a fortune cookie which read “even a broken clock is right two times a day”.

He captioned the image with a shrugging emoji and a clock — which is telling as the guitarist invoked the fortune cookie’s phrase in saying “that rumour is like a broken clock” when he was asked about the possibility of an MCR reunion in an interview back in August.

My Chemical Romance will play a string of live shows in the UK and Ireland in June — you can see their confirmed live dates on these shores below.

18 – Milton Keynes– Stadium MK
20 – Milton Keynes – Stadium MK

Netflix has finally graced some users with statistics about which films and TV shows have been the most popular on their platform.

The streaming titan has been notoriously tight-lipped about viewership statistics in the past, but is now implementing a new feature to show users a top 10 of most-streamed content, being updated every day.

The feature will draw data from users in each country, but will also slightly adapt depending to each specific user’s viewing habits. “The position of the row will vary depending on how relevant the shows and films are to you,” said Netflix.

The feature is currently running on UK accounts as well as the US, and is visible when scrolling down on the landing pages on both Film and Series pages.

At the end of last year, it was revealed that the top 10 most watched shows in the UK included After LifeThe Umbrella Academy and Stranger Things.

At the start of the year, it was revealed that the first season of The Witcher broke viewing records, streaming on over 76 million accounts within the first four weeks of debuting – making it the biggest opening season for a TV series so far.

‘The Simpsons’ creator shares update on second film: “We’re in the very, very early stages”

The film would be a standalone story rather than a sequel

Al Green, showrunner of The Simpsons, has shared details on another potential spin-off film.

“I would say yes although we’re just in the very, very early stages,” Green told Slash Film. “We would love to do one for Disney but it’s not like it’s happening next week or next year.”

The Simpsons Movie was released in 2007, on which Jean served as a producer. In the new statements, Jean has made clear that any new film would work as a standalone movie, not a sequel.

“At D23 Matt [Groening] said, ‘I think it’s gonna happen’ and I agree with that,” Jean said. “So I agree with that statement. I believe it will happen.

“We would only do it if it was an idea that we thought deserved being made into another movie. We certainly don’t need to have more Simpsons out there just for the money or to have additional material. We would do it if we thought it was a great story and we wanted to tell it.”

Elsewhere, it’s just been confirmed Disney+ users in the UK will not be able to stream The Simpsons on the platform due to licensing restrictions with Sky.

When they were released in the US, fans were angered after new versions of classic episodes of the show were altered. Disney+ stretched episodes from the first 20 seasons of The Simpsons into the widescreen 16:9 ratio, which meant that details on the edges of shot in the originals were often cropped out.

The Simpsons used the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio for its first 20 seasons.

A new memorial devoted to George Harrison is set to be built in Liverpool to mark the Beatles icon’s 77th birthday.

The project, announced by Liverpool City Council and the George Harrison Estate, will see a new memorial woodland being created in honour of the late star.

The George Harrison Woodland Walk will be located in the suburb of Allerton, close to where Harrison was born and spent his formative years.

Upon completion in 2021, the memorial woodland will feature a selection of artistic installations directly inspired by Harrison’s seminal lyrics and his life.

It will also feature a ‘nature classroom’ to help school children learn about the natural world, while local artists are encouraged to submit ideas for their own artwork here.

Olivia Harrison, George’s wife, said: “George was an avid gardener who found solace and joy in being in the outdoors. I don’t think there is any better way to commemorate him in Liverpool than with a garden which can become a place of tranquility and reflection for everyone.

“I am really looking forward to watching it change and grow over the coming years.”

Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson said: “It has been one of my ambitions as mayor to find an appropriate way for us as a city to celebrate one of our most-loved sons, so I am overjoyed that at last we can announced the George Harrison Woodland Walk.

“The site is beautiful and the plans for the area in the coming months are really exciting. It feels right that at last we have a permanent memorial to celebrate George’s life, loves and influence.”
