Bush and Stone Temple Pilots have cancelled their planned US co-headline tour, citing “unfortunate and unavoidable COVID-related circumstances” as the reason. The joint venture was scheduled to start on September 30 and conclude on October 16.

As reported by Consequence of Sound, a statement penned by Bush read: “Due to unfortunate and unavoidable COVID-related circumstances, we will be unable to move forward with… our tour with Stone Temple Pilots.

“We wish to extend our deepest apologies as this is the last thing we would want for all our great fans as well as our good friends in Stone Temple Pilots.⁣”

It is unclear from their statement whether Bush made the decision over general concern with the ongoing pandemic, or if there are cases among the band themselves.

Stone Temple Pilots were quick to reassure fans that their continued run of shows after their now-canned stint with Bush – beginning October 17 – would still go ahead.

“Unfortunately Bush has had to cancel their upcoming tour with us that was to start at the end of this month,” the band said in their own statement.

“We are of course saddened by this news, but it’s a sign of the times right now. We’re so very much looking forward to coming back to all cancelled markets as soon as we can.⁣”

Chuck D responds to Flavor Flav’s claims that he is blocking a Public Enemy reunion tour

A real spat has surfaced following last year’s hoax spat between the pair

Public Enemy‘s Chuck D has responded to claims made by bandmate Flavor Flav that he is blocking a reunion tour.

The reported feud has transpired after Flavor Flav – real name William Drayton Jr. – spoke to TMZ overnight (September 14). In his comment, Flav laid claims that Chuck D – otherwise known as Carlton Ridenhour – is blocking a reunion of Public Enemy with his refusal to sign a partnership agreement.

As reported by Stereogum, a statement made by Ridenhour through his publicist refuted Drayton’s claims. “This is tired and stupid,” Ridenhour said. “Flav sues the folks he works with, so in 2017 he decided it was my turn. He lost when the judge dismissed the suit with prejudice in 2020, which means it’s permanent. Over. He can’t file again. He lost.

“Even after all of this, even after all the years of Flav giving the situation minimum while always asking for the maximum, I still work with him. But it’s time to change. Everybody in the situation can’t be burdened with picking up his slack.

“The key word in “Brothers Gonna Work It Out” is the word “work.” We’re always gonna be brothers regardless, but Flav’s gotta do the work and there ain’t no getting down without the work. Simple as that.”

An alleged hoax feud developed last year ahead of the release of the group’s 15th studio album, ‘What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down?’.

Drayton had apparently presented US presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders with a cease and desist letter ahead of a rally in Los Angeles, which was set to feature a performance from Ridenhour.

Drayton was then supposedly dismissed from the group after they clashed over the former’s criticism’s of the then-presidential hopeful Sanders.

Public Enemy later claimed the apparent uproar amongst its members was a publicity stunt, saying: “We takin’ April Fools.”

Ridenhour said: “OK. We knew what was gonna come. I’m not sayin’ it’s a hoax, I’m sayin’ that the original intention is to get your attention and not play attention, but get you to pay attention.”

BTS announce new online concert ‘Permission To Dance On Stage’

The concert will be held next month

K-pop sensations BTS have announced a new online concert called ‘Permission To Dance On Stage’.

The group made the surprise announcement earlier today (September 15) across their social media channels, including with a poster on Twitter and a spoken announcement on YouTube. “We are going to meet ARMY through online streaming,” the group said in the clip.

The upcoming online concert, titled ‘Permission To Dance On Stage’, will be held on October 24 at 6:30pm KST. Details such as ticketing prices have yet to be disclosed, but are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

‘Permission To Dance On Stage’ will be BTS’ first online concert of 2021. Earlier this year, the boyband held the ‘MUSTER SOWOOZOO’ fan meeting event in June, which amassed over 1.3 million concurrent viewers worldwide.

The announcement of ‘Permission To Dance On Stage’ also comes shortly after BTS’ label Big Hit Music revealed that the boyband’s previously-postponed ‘Map Of The Soul’ world tour has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Due to changing circumstances beyond our control, it has become difficult to resume performances at the same scale and timeline as previously planned. Therefore we must announce the cancellation of the BTS Map Of The Soul tour,” the company said.

BTS were meant to kick off their tour in April last year, but were forced to cancel their four Seoul appearances because of the coronavirus pandemic. They later announced they would be postponing the tour altogether.

Meanwhile, BTS and Coldplay recently announced a brand-new collaboration titled ‘My Universe’, which is set to be featured on Coldplay’s upcoming ‘Music Of The Spheres’ album.

Dave Grohl hints the next Foo Fighters album may be “an insane prog-rock record”

“Every album that we’ve made is a response to the one we made before”

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has shared a first hint at new music from the band, teasing that their next album could be “an insane prog-rock record.”

The band released 10th studio album ‘Medicine At Midnight’ back in February, and are currently touring it around the United States at fully vaccinated arena shows.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Grohl said that he hasn’t written any new music for a prospective ‘Medicine At Midnight’ follow-up, but that there have been “whispers” regarding the musical direction the next album might take.

“Every album that we’ve made is a response to the one we made before,” Grohl told Rolling Stone. “So now there are whispers of making an insane prog-rock record.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Grohl discussed the band’s commercial appeal, saying that he’s not sure they’ve ever felt cool.

Grohl talked the criticism he and the band received early on and the perception that he shouldn’t have carried on making music following the disbandment of Nirvana. “I don’t know if we’ve ever felt cool,” he said, discussing the idea that once a band reaches a certain level of fame they lose cool points.

He went on to say that during the band’s earlier years he felt like he was fighting a perception that the Foos shouldn’t even exist, that it was somehow inappropriate to have another band after Nirvana.

Reviewing this year’s ‘Medicine At Midnight’, NME wrote: “Those who have followed Grohl through his days in DC hardcore – through Nirvana, the metallic ingenuity of Probot, his drumming to the stars and the rise and rise of the band that brings forth this record – will be enthused by the suggestion that this great songwriter is looking to expand his playbook. Even more will be delighted that an enduring force for good has returned.”

Elsewhere, the band were named Global Icons at the MTV VMAs this week by Billie Eilish, while they will travel to the UK next summer for a series of stadium shows.

Metallica will headline the first-ever German edition of Download Festival when it takes place in 2022.

The inaugural Download Festival Germany will take place at the motor racing circuit Hockenheimring in the Rhine valley on June 24 next year. Also confirmed for the line-up so far are Nevada band Five Finger Death Punch and Swedish power metal outfit Sabaton.

Tickets for the German edition of Download Festival go on sale this Friday (September 17).

The inaugural festival sees Germany join a growing list of other countries Download has branched out to in recent years, with events taking place in France, Spain, Japan and Australia.

Download Festival UK is set to run between 10-12 June next year at Donnington Park, Leicestershire, headlined by KISS, Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro. Earlier this month, organisers unveiled a slew of new acts to the bill including A Day to Remember, Mastodon, Creeper, Code Orange and more.

Earlier this year, Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes headlined the first night of the historic Download Pilot event, which welcomed the return of camping festivals to the UK.

The 10,000-capacity event, which saw Carter and co joined by other headliners Bullet for My Valentine and Enter Shikari, signalled the legendary rock festival making a small-scale return for a three-day camping pilot as part of the initial research into the safe return of live music.

Metallica, meanwhile, recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of their 1991 self-titled album – typically referred to as ‘The Black Album’ – by releasing a remastered reissue.

The band also shared ‘The Metallica Blacklist’, a massive covers compilation that saw 53 artists pay tribute to the metal icons, including Miley Cyrus, Phoebe Bridgers, Royal Blood, St. Vincent, IDLES, Weezer and many more.

The Rose’s Woosung says he has a “love-hate” relationship with music

“Because I chose music, I did go through my hardest times in life”

Woosung, frontman of South Korean pop-rock band The Rose, has opened up about his complicated relationship with music.

The Korean-American singer recently sat down for an interview with Teen Voguewhere he discussed his relationship with music, ranging from his origins as a contestant on the first season of SBS’s K-pop Star in 2011 to life as a solo artist.

Back in 2011, when Woosung appeared on the reality TV series, he faced a setback in his career when he was eliminated much earlier than expected. “I think life always gives you all these problems, but it doesn’t give you problems that you can’t solve,” he said.

“I started [this path] because I love music. It was a surprise and it came too fast,” he added, before describing his relationship with music as a “love-hate” one. “Because I chose music, I did go through my hardest times in life, but then again, I could get through them because of music.”

“Because I love it so much. It’s something that I can’t take out of my life,” Woosung concluded, although also noting that music “isn’t the only thing” that he has going for him. “If there is a time I can’t do it, it won’t be the end of the world. I’ll be okay.”

Woosung also opened up about the hardships he faced during his time as a trainee post-K-pop Star, before he made his debut with The Rose. “One day I woke up and I didn’t know what I was doing. Why was I even practicing? Why was I in this company, wasting my time away?” he said.

Despite his past struggles, the singer now sees his experience in a more positive light, saying that he “got to discover new things because there was nobody to look after me [and] I am who I am because of those moments”.

Woosung is set to make his return later this month with a brand-new solo single titled ‘Dimples’. The track, set to be released on September 23, will be the follow-up to his previous single ‘Lazy’, which dropped in July.

Britney Spears thanks #FreeBritney supporters as she deletes Instagram account

“I hope this message gets to people who have been confused or manipulated by a system!”

The post Britney Spears thanks #FreeBritney supporters as she deletes Instagram account appeared first on NME.

NME

Britney Spears has deleted her Instagram account, taking time to thank the #FreeBritney campaign before leaving the site.

The decision comes just a day after the singer revealed she is engaged to Sam Asghari, her boyfriend of five years.

The 39-year-old singer announced the news of her engagement via an Instagram reel of the couple on Monday (September 13), where she shows off her diamond ring. “I can’t fucking believe it,” she captioned the post.

On Tuesday (September 14), her account was then deactivated after she shared a post thanking her supporters in the #FreeBritney movement.

Per screengrabs shared by fans, the final post on her account was of an article titled ‘Infusing education with heart’ which featured an Oscar Wilde quote.

Spears captioned the post: “I had to repost this so you can see the whole article! Growing up in a world where basically almost everything I did was controlled by someone else… I hope this message gets to people who have been confused or manipulated by a system!

“No … you’re not alone and no … you’re not crazy! People need to hear this before it’s too late! I’ve waited 13 years and counting for my freedom! Again … team #FreeBritney you guys fucking kick ass! Love you so much and God bless!”

Though some fans have been speculating that her account was suspended by Instagram due to the nature of the final post, the social media network confirmed to Insider that Britney’s account was deactivated by her, and not suspended by the company.

On Twitter, Britney discussed the decision, writing: “Don’t worry folks … just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement!!!! I’ll be back soon.”

Earlier this month, after 13 years as Britney Spears’ conservator, the singer’s father, Jamie Spears, has filed a petition in the Los Angeles Superior Court to end the conservatorship entirely.

The move comes after Jamie began proceedings to step down as Britney’s conservator last month. Jamie had been in charge of the conservatorship since it was enacted in 2008, and had recently come under intense scrutiny as a result of the #FreeBritney campaign, as well as a landmark hearing in June where the singer called the conservatorship “abusive”. He had previously been adamant that there were “no grounds whatsoever” to have him removed from the singer’s conservatorship.

NBC News reported that Jamie is now siding with Britney to have the conservatorship ended altogether, saying that she “is entitled to have this Court now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required”.

John Lydon says he is in “financial ruin” after losing court case against fellow Sex Pistols

The former Sex Pistols frontman has slammed his bandmates as “evil”

The post John Lydon says he is in “financial ruin” after losing court case against fellow Sex Pistols appeared first on NME.

NME

John Lydon of the Sex Pistols has opened up about his financial struggles, which he said have worsened after losing a legal battle against his former bandmates last month.

Lydon was sued after refusing to license the group’s music for inclusion in Danny Boyle’s upcoming biopic series, Pistol, with guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook legally challenging his veto.

According to Jones and Cook’s lawyer, Edmund Cullen, the band agreed in 1998 that all decisions about licensing requests could be determined on a “majority rules” basis. This was upheld in High Court ruling on August 23.

Now, in an interview with The Telegraph, Lydon has slammed his former bandmates as “evil” and said he is “seriously in a state of financial ruin” following the court case.

“I’ve got no more savings, no more loans, no pensions. I’ve got nothing… I’m fucked, and I’m scuppered in so many different ways,” Lydon said.

“This entire juggernaut of confusion has cost me millions,” Lydon said of the court case. “Such a hideous, nasty onslaught; I never expected Steve, Paul, and Glen [Matlock, original Sex Pistols bassist] to be that evil. And we never even sat down and had a conversation about it.”

Lydon also suggested that he was outmatched from the beginning given that Pistol is set to premiere on Walt Disney Company subsidiary FX. “This became Walt Disney money versus me. Who do you think’s gonna win?” he said. “The Sex Pistols have become the property of Mickey fucking Mouse.”

Lydon went on to say in the interview that he worries his financial situation will impact the health treatment of his wife Nora, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and for whom Lydon is effectively a full-time carer for, “seeing as they’ve stolen all my money”.

“It’s a very serious problem,” Lydon said. “I’m gonna have to work really hard to gain anything like a fundamentally stable environment to take care of my loved ones. This is what they’ve done to me. Thanks, boys!”

Following the verdict last month, Lydon issued a lengthy statement claiming that he didn’t know about the proposed use of Sex Pistols music in the new series until “just a few hours” before it was announced, and he had no idea how the band would be portrayed in it.

Jones and Cook issued a response that disputed Lydon’s claims, saying he was “informed of the Pistol TV series, offered meetings with the director and to be involved in the show months before principal photography began”.

“He refused these offers and we were saddened he would not engage and at least have a conversation with the director Danny Boyle and co-showrunner Craig Pearce,” they added.

“John Lydon sold his rights to control the use of these songs in the 1990s in return for money. The majority rule agreement existed as a result – so no outside party could dictate the use of the band’s music.

“And to have a mechanism in place if one member was unfairly blocking the decision making process – which is what happened in this instance.”
