Rock Sound Reviews

Senses Fail have taken a long, winding road to the present day.

The once party-hard emo sweethearts have since splintered and transformed into something else entirely, with frontman Buddy Nielsen growing into a strong, genuine moral voice for the scene: never afraid to discuss complex and important topics.

‘If There Is Light, It Will Find You’ feels like Buddy putting his platform to powerful use, while celebrating the deeply loved community that his band came from. If you’re a fan of ’00s emo and post-hardcore, this record is the most passionate of love letters - even to the point where the songs here shared working titles with the classic bands they resemble.

It’s a joy to rollercoaster along with. ‘Is It Gonna Be The Year’ channels the drama of early Taking Back Sunday, the wonderful ‘Gold Jacket, Green Jacket’ has hooks that would sit right up there with Bert McCracken and The Used’s best moments and ‘You Get So Alone At Times It Just Makes Sense’ slaps with a lyrical honesty that hits you straight in the chest. This is a life-affirming, pit-starting warm embrace of a record that reminds us, at every step, what makes this corner of the world so special.
