A lot of Story Untold’s debut album sounds familiar. Really familiar.
Songs like ‘California’ resemble a colourful mix between Simple Plan and late-’00s All Time Low, but there’s something charming about a band who’ll wear their influences so unashamedly on their sleeves. And while the French Canadians’ detractors will say that’s all they can do, there’s something smarter and more unique about ‘Waves’. In Janick Thibault, they have a charismatic frontman who looks and most importantly sounds the part, and songs like the intricate, As It Is-tinged ‘Drown In My Mind’ suggest this isn’t the last we’ll hear of them by any means.
