Gavin and Stacey will be returning to the BBC starting next week, April 4, in a double bill with Outnumbered.

James Corden and Ruth Wilson’s sitcom ran from 2007 to 2010, and returned for a one-off Christmas special last December.

The return of the show to primetime broadcasting is part of the BBC’s major effort to retool their content during the coronavirus pandemic.

BBC Director-General Tony Hall said of the new measures: “The BBC is determined to do all it can to raise a smile and keep the country entertained during these testing times.

Peaky Blinders has shared an empowering message from its director about coronavirus as production shuts down on series 6.

Yesterday (March 18) director/photographer Anthony Byrne posted an image of Cillian Murphy in his Tommy Shelby get-up on set. He captioned the photo with a lengthy message that touched on the disappointment of halting production after “months of hard work by our very talented, dedicated and hardworking crew”.

But he took the opportunity in the message, which was reposted to the official Peaky Blinders Instagram account, to advocate supporting communities, loved ones, and workers in the NHS during these difficult times. “Support the amazing people who are keeping the @nhsmillion going. Look after those around you and reach out to people,” he wrote.

Elsewhere, he pressed on the importance of people keeping occupied with arts and entertainment. “Read that book that’s been staring at you for years. Write a poem, script, novel. Listen to music. Watch movies. Be creative. Make art. Share. Find the positive in all of this and use it. We will be better for it in the long run.”

“These are extraordinary times and we must be extraordinary in them,” he wrote.

“Remember who we all are as a people and look out for those around you who will find these times challenging. Dig deep. It will pass.”

The popular BBC mob drama suspended production on March 16. A spokesperson said (via The Guardian): “In light of the spread of COVID-19, after much consideration, the producers – Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Productions – of Peaky Blinders S6 have postponed filming.

“We will continue to review all productions on a case-by-case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organization and Public Health England.”

BBC Three actor Michael Sleggs will be honoured in the first episode of the upcoming third and final season of This Country.

Sleggs passed away last July. The actor played Michael “Slugs” Slugette in the Cotswolds-based comedy.

The show, created by siblings Daisy May and Charlie Cooper gave Sleggs a role in the show after years of friendship, and have named the first episode of season three “A Letter From Slugs” after him.

This Country focuses on Kerry and Lee “Kurtan” Mucklowe, two cousins, and their lives and friends and family.

Discussing the upcoming new episodes at a screening of This Country in Cirencester, the Coopers’ hometown, Daisy spoke of Michael’s legacy.

“Michael was always a kind of misfit in Cirencester,” she said. “He was plagued with health problems, but he had a wicked sense of humour. He was a pain in the arse a lot of the time, but we just adored him.”

On the gesture to remember their friend, Charlie said: “It was so difficult. I think we always wanted to include him and I know he wanted to be included.

“It was really tough filming those scenes but we had to be truthful to that character and the storyline.

“I genuinely don’t think this show would have been half as popular or successful if it hadn’t been for Michael.”
