The track comes three days after the release of his initial diss track ‘Euphoria’

Kendrick Lamar has released ‘6:16 in LA’, another brutal diss track directed towards Drake.

The ‘Humble’ rapper wasted no time in creating a follow-up to his recent release ‘Euphoria‘ – a six-minute-long diss track that sees Lamar call the ‘Hotline Bling’ a “scam artist”, “master manipulator” and question his abilities as a father.

Lamar took to his Instagram today (May 3) – three days after the release of ‘Euphoria’ – to share a new track – ‘6:16 in LA’. The title of the track itself is a reference to Drake’s timestamp series, a grouping of songs in the rapper’s discography in which their title’s include a time and a location.

Featuring a slurry of synths at the beginning before jumping into a soulful boombap style beat, Lamar opens with “Who could reach this? Only God could teleport this type of freedom / My God, my confession is yours, but / Who am I if I don’t go to war? / There’s opportunity when livin’ with laws / I discover myself when I fall short / Raise my hands to a fallen sky, I fantasise / Me jumpin’ planets and mortal lies, I correspond.

He goes on to rap: “Have you ever thought that OVO was working for me? / Fake bully, I hate bullies, you must be a terrible person / Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it / Can’t Toosie Slide up outta this one, it’s just gon’ resurface,” expressing his hatred for bullies and claiming the ‘Know Yourself’ rapper as a “terrible person”.

K.Dot then takes a moment to hit at Drake’s personal circle, claiming that some of them a want the ‘Headlines’ rapper “as a casualty”: “And one of them is actually next to you / And two of them is practically tired of your lifestyle, just don’t got the audacity to tell you / But let me tell you some game, ’cause I can see you my lil’ homie / You playin’ dirty with propaganda, it blow up on ya” – further alleging that one of the Canadian rapper’s closest people is part of the group that are hoping for his downfall – though it’s not immediately clear who, exactly, he’s referencing here.

Elsewhere in the track, Lamar also references Drakes LP ‘For All The Dogs’ saying: “Every dog gotta have his day, now live in your purpose.” He also reflects on his own life, admitting to living a “boring” one but being at peace. However, he adds that he can easily switch it up “if the world is ready to see you bleed.”

The track was posted on Instagram with a photo of a singular black leather glove with a Maybach logo on it as the artwork for the song. This may be in reference to Drake previously comparing his career to that of Michael Jackson in his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s ‘Like That‘.

Lamar also ends the song with the line: “Before you figure that you’re not alone / Ask what Mike would do”. The ‘Swimming Pools’ rapper previously included a sample of a reversed Richard Pryor line from the 1978 fim The Wiz in ‘Euphoria’, leaving fans to speculate that it’s inculsion of the line from the film was another nod to Jackson as he was featured in The Wiz, portraying the character of the Scarecrow.

Drake first compared himself to Michael Jackson on his J. Cole collab ‘First Person Shooter’. Cole later responded with his own diss, ‘7 Minute Drill’, but he later apologised for it and pulled it from streaming.

Drake’s own response came in the form of ‘Push Ups’ and ‘Taylor Made Freestyle‘ but landed in hot water after he used AI to emulate Tupac Shakur‘s vocals, leading to the late rapper’s estate threatening legal action. He subsequently removed the track from streaming.

Despite Drake claiming that his rival had “nothing to drop” in response, Lamar fired back with ‘Euphoria’, addressing him directly for the first time.

Other musicians have since waded into the debate: Kanye West dropped his own remix of ‘Like That’, comedian Munya Chawawa released his own parody Lamar diss track and George The Poet called Lamar “a non-revolutionary cosplaying as a revolutionary”.

Drake recently replied to ‘Euphoria’ on his Instagram stories. The ‘Know Yourself’ rapper seemed to mock Lamar’s lyrics: “I’m the biggest hater / I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress / I hate the way that you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it’s gon’ be direct” with a scene from cult romcom 10 Things I Hate About You.

In other news, New Ho King – a Toronto based Chinese restaurant that Lamar name checked in ‘Euphoria’ has received a huge spike in interest upon the song’s release.

Watch Cyndi Lauper join Nicki Minaj for ‘Pink Friday Girls’ in Brooklyn

The track features a sample of Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’

Nicki Minaj surprised fans at her recent concert in Brooklyn by bringing out pop icon Cyndi Lauper to perform ‘Pink Friday Girls’ – watch fan-shot footage of the performance below.

While performing at the Barclays Center on May 1 in Brooklyn, New York, Nicki Minaj performed a hit-filled setlist that contained fan favourites like ‘Pink Friday’, ‘Red Ruby Da Sleeze’, ‘Barbie World’, ‘Roman’s Revenge’ and more.

However, it was towards the end of her 31-song setlist that Nicki Minaj surprised fans by bringing out Cyndi Lauper. Together, they performed ‘Pink Friday Girls’, which featured on Minaj’s latest album, ‘Pink Friday 2’.

The original version of ‘Pink Friday Girls’ featured samples of the chorus of Lauper’s hit song ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’. After performing the track together, the two embraced and Nicki spoke of Lauper’s influence on her life and career.

After bowing down to Lauper, Minaj said: “Never in a million years did I think I’d be back here, rocking in New York with Cyndi Lauper.” The two then performed a short, impromptu rendition of ‘True Colours’, which Minaj recalled crying to when she had heard the song growing up.

“Don’t wait ’til we’re not here to give us our flowers. God bless this woman, thank you Cyndi. We love you.”

Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2’ scored a four-star review from NME‘s Nick Levine upon its release in December last year. Levine wrote: “‘Pink Friday 2’ feels like a consolidation and refinement of everything Minaj can do – including dropping pop culture references that no other artist would think of. “Ducking ’em like Björk?” That’s surely a wink to the Icelandic musician’s infamous skirmish with a photographer. Thirteen years after ‘Pink Friday’, Nicki Minaj hasn’t lost her ability to catch us by surprise.”

Cydni Lauper is due to play an “exclusive” greatest hits show at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Wednesday, June 26 ahead of the New York singer-songwriter’s appearance at Glastonbury Festival that weekend. It’ll mark Lauper’s first UK solo concert in eight years.

Toronto restaurant New Ho King sees huge spike in interest after Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track

“Truly euphoric meal,” read a review of the restaurant on Google

The post Toronto restaurant New Ho King sees huge spike in interest after Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track appeared first on NME.

NME

Kendrick Lamar‘s Drake diss track has caused a massive spike in interest for the Toronto restaurant New Ho King.

In Lamar’s song ‘Euphoria’, the ‘Humble’ artist raps in a Toronto accent and name-checks the Chinese restaurant towards the end of the second verse saying: ‘I be at New Ho King eatin’ fried rice with a dip sauce and a blammy’.

The restaurant is located on Spadina Avenue in Toronto. After the release of ‘Euphoria’, New Ho King has received a plethora of five-star reviews on Google, with the majority referencing Lamar and the track. “Truly euphoric meal,” read one review left by a user while another wrote: “That fried rice with the dip sauce is the way to go. All my crodies love it.”

It currently has a 4.0 star rating on Google. Speaking to local TV station CityNews, Johnny Lu – the owner of New Ho King – expressed his gratitude for the mention in the song and called Lamar a “Good guy”.

Elsewhere, it was revealed that Lamar included a sample of a reversed Richard Pryor line from ‘The Wiz’ in ‘Euphoria’.

The jumbled audio in the intro of the six-minute-long track is actually dialogue from the 1978 film The Wiz that had been reversed.

Shortly after the track’s release, fans clipped the beginning audio and played it backwards to find that the first line: “eurt si em tuoba yas yeht gnihtyrevE” happens to be a line from the iconic film in which Richard Pryor – who portrayed The Wiz – says: “Everything they say about me is true.”

Pryor’s line in the film is taken from a scene in which his character is exposed as Herman Smith, a washed-up politician from Atlantic City. He admits to being Smith and says: “Everything they say about me is true. I’m a phony.”

Fans have also speculated that Lamar’s inclusion of The Wiz is in connection to his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s ‘Like That‘ which was released last month.

In the track, the ‘Humble’ rapper comparing his work and contributions to that of the late Prince“Prince outlived Mike Jack’ N****,” Drake had compared himself to Michael Jackson on his J. Cole collab ‘First Person Shooter’. Jackson was featured in The Wiz, portraying the Scarecrow.

Despite Drake claiming that his rival had “nothing to drop” in response, Lamar has fired back with ‘Euphoria’, addressing him directly for the first time.

Other musicians have since waded into the debate: Kanye West dropped his own remix of ‘Like That’, comedian Munya Chawawa released his own parody Lamar diss track and George The Poet called Lamar “a non-revolutionary cosplaying as a revolutionary”.

Stormzy and Adidas announce new #MerkyFC HQ centre for football, music and gaming

The two first joined forces in 2022 to address racial equity in the football industry and provide employment opportunities

The post Stormzy and Adidas announce new #MerkyFC HQ centre for football, music and gaming appeared first on NME.

NME

Stormzy has joined forces with Adidas to announce a new centre for music, football and gaming called #MerkyFC HQ.

Announced today (May 2), the centre is a newly built centre in Croydon, London, which has been developed to help give the community access to new facilities including a brand-new hub, housing football pitches, a state-of-the-art recording studio, a sports gaming hub and multipurpose rooms.

The development is built on the existing football site known as Selhurst Sports Arena – a space managed by Communities First Foundation that seeks to empower local communities through access to sports and employment support.

With the investment from Adidas, the venue will host year-round events and educational activities both on and off the pitch, and provide access to development opportunities for young people in the local area and beyond.

A music studio has also been added to the centre, intended to allow aspiring local artists to have more opportunity to go and record their own music. It will also serve as an accessible space for all other multimedia uses, such as Podcasts and gaming events.

Finally, a sports gaming hub is included thanks to a collaboration between #MerkyFC, Adidas and EA Sports, and allows young people to test their skills on the latest EA Sports titles, including EA Sports FC 24 and EA Sports F1 23.

The launch of #MerkyFC HQ marks the second pillar of the collaboration between Adidas and grime star Stormzy, and follows on from the initial #MerkyFC Careers programme.

First established in 2022, the project was built to address racial equity in the football industry and provide opportunities for UK Black Heritage Youth to access jobs in the football industry. In the time since its launch, the movement has seen over 60 individuals placed in roles across various brands.

“I’m gassed that we can finally open the doors to #Merky FC HQ. Working with Adidas, I’ve wanted to do this for a long, long time and now there’s a community space that everyone in the area will be able to use and benefit from,” Stormzy said of the new development. “When I was growing up there was nothing like this around for young people, so it means a lot that we now have a facility like this in Croydon. Proper homegrown!”

Steve Marks, Senior Director of Brand Communications for Adidas shared a similar sentiment, adding: “We’re proud to launch #MerkyFC HQ the next chapter in Adidas’ ongoing partnership with Stormzy. Supporting the development of spaces for the local community to connect, play and collaborate is a vital part of our ongoing drive to cultivate opportunities for young people.

“The centre is a space for everyone including those who enjoy taking part in football, but also for the discovery of other creative passions such as music and esports,” he added.

The news of #MerkyFC HQ arrives after Stormzy – along with other artists including Clairo – performed a benefit concert to raise funds for those in Palestine and Sudan.

Held in New Jersey, the event was titled ‘Artist For Aid’ and saw numerous musicians from all genres come together to help raise funds for the ongoing humanitarian crises in the countries.

Before then, the artist ushered in the next chapter of his #Merky FC partnership with Adidas, confirming that the scheme would “broaden its scope and impact by tripling the number of roles available”.

Watch Drake join Nicki Minaj on stage for the first live performance of ‘Needle’

It marks the first time they have performed together since they dropped the track in 2023

The post Watch Drake join Nicki Minaj on stage for the first live performance of ‘Needle’ appeared first on NME.

NME

Nicki Minaj surprised fans at a recent live show by bringing out Drake as a surprise guest and performing the live debut of ‘Needle’.

The moment took place on Tuesday (April 30), as the ‘Super Freaky Girl’ rapper took to the stage in Toronto as part of her ongoing world tour, celebrating the release of 2023’s ‘Pink Friday 2’.

While on stage at the Scotiabank Arena, she told the audience midway through the set that she would be bringing out a special guest. “Make some noise for the king of Toronto,” Nicki told the crowd, “Make some noise for this icon, this legend.”

It was there that the ‘Trust Issues’ rapper took to the stage, and performed the first-ever live performance of the two’s collaborative track ‘Needle’ together in front of his hometown audience.

The song was featured on Minaj’s recent album ‘Pink Friday 2’, and peaked at Number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 after its debut. It remained on the charts for four weeks and became one of the album’s biggest tracks.

As well as breaking out the song, Drake also went on to perform one song solo on the night – delivering a rendition of his 2023 track ‘Rich Baby Daddy’ while the headliner went backstage for a wardrobe change.

Before leaving the stage, the ‘God’s Plan’ rapper left the crowd with a parting message, which seemed to make a nod to his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar. “I love you. You know what time it is — you know what I have to do,” he said.

Check out more footage from the set below.

The surprise appearance at Minaj’s headline show arrived around the same time that the Canadian rapper replied to Kendrick Lamar‘s brutal ‘Euphoria’ diss track.

On Tuesday night, Lamar released the six-minute diss track against the rapper, calling him a “master manipulator” and questioning his abilities as a father amongst other accusations. It is the latest response in a feud ignited by Lamar, who hit out against Drake and J. Cole in his guest verse on Future and Metro Boomin‘s ‘Like That’ in March.

In response to the diss track, Drake shared a post online which seemed to mock Lamar’s lyrics: “I’m the biggest hater / I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress / I hate the way that you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it’s gon’ be direct” with a scene from cult romcom 10 Things I Hate About You.

In the original scene, Kat (Julia Stiles) reads out her poem about Patrick (Heath Ledger),  which begins: “I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair / I hate the way you drive my car, I hate it when you stare”. The poem eventually reveals her true romantic feelings for Patrick: “But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you / Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”

As a nod to the poem’s intentions, Drake captioned the scene with a broken heart and winky face emoji.

As for Nicki Minaj, the rapper continued her world tour last night by returning to her hometown for a Barclays Center show in Brooklyn. She’s set to wrap up the US leg of the dates with shows in Oklahoma, Houston, Dallas and Austin over the next few days, before she heads across the pond for a run of European and UK tour dates.

Visit here for remaining tickets.

The tour comes in celebration of her long-awaited ‘Pink Friday 2’ album, which arrived in December and was described by NME as a “blockbuster sequel [that] lives up to the hype”.

“Comprising 22 tracks that unfold over 70 minutes, ‘Pink Friday 2’ is probably too long, but Minaj paces it sharply. The first half pings between lean, mean hip-hop tracks and melancholy midtempos, while the second half contains a smattering of pop-rap cuts including the Rick James-sampling ‘Super Freaky Girl’,” the four-star review read.

“Minaj’s ability to impose herself on an instantly familiar sample also drives ‘Everybody’, a frantic banger built on Junior Senior’s 2002 novelty hit ‘Move Your Body’. It’s the quirkiest moment on an album where Minaj is generally more restrained than in the past. Here, she doesn’t play around with alter-egos quite as freely as on ‘Pink Friday’.”

KNEECAP share garage-inspired new single ‘Love Making’ and announce US tour

The Irish rap trio described the track as “baby making music, not much else to define here”

NME

KNEECAP have shared a sensual new single ‘Love Making’, featuring Nino, and announced a US tour.

The new garage-inspired track was described by the Irish rap trio as “baby making music, not much else to define here, inspired by 90s garage tunes.” Within it, they celebrate a one-night stand – “Ní amháin gnéas ach craic, lets make a mess and relax/Cos we’ve got vibes in stacks, local snacks and hotel sex,” they rap.

Nino, meanwhile, takes the chorus, singing: “You know, I know I’m the one you’re gonna be taking/From your show to your home, me and you let’s be love making.”

‘Love Making’ is taken from the Irish rap trio’s upcoming album ‘Fine Art’, which will be released on June 14 via Heavenly Recordings. The Toddla T-produced album also features the previously released singles ‘Sick In The Head’, ‘Fine Art’ and Grian Chatten collaboration ‘Better Way To Live’.

Check out ‘Love Making’ below:

Kneecap recently spoke to NME about recent controversies and what to expect from their debut album.

The Belfast rap trio have been making headlines recently after leading the Irish bands boycotting SXSW, in solidarity with Palestine and protest against the showcase festival’s sponsorship from the US military and weapons manufacturers.

Asked what statement they want to make with ‘Fine Art’, rapper Mo Chara said: “Sonically, we wanted it all to be pretty representative of the gigs. The gigs can go from pretty chill at one point to then totally chaotic. That combined with all the controversy of the last few years has been the real driving force of the songs and what we want to talk about. This is the real introduction to Kneecap. We’ve been touring for five or six years, we’ve got loads of music out, but this is our real debut so we wanted it to be inherently Kneecap. This is our world.”

Meanwhile, the band have announced a short US run of shows for September, which includes a show at Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville. They will also be performing in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Boston, Washington, Columbus and Chicago.

Kendrick Lamar has included a sample of a reversed Richard Pryor line from ‘The Wiz’ on his new Drake diss track ‘Euphoria‘.
