Ex-STYX vocalist and keyboardist Dennis DeYoung has once again said that he wants to reunite with his former bandmates for one final tour. DeYoung, the voice behind such STYX classics as "Come Sail Away", "Best Of Times", "Pieces Of Eight" and "Babe", spoke about his previous group while chatting with Joe Rock of Long Island, New York's 102.3 WBAB radio station. Asked if he is still hoping for a reunion of STYX's classic lineup, Dennis said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I've been riding that bandwagon for the last five or six years, but to no avail. Really, the people that are vested, the promoters around the country, have this past year gone through back channels to see if there was interest. 'Cause everybody, every STYX fan would like to see that one more time. And one person spoke, and it was Tommy [Shaw, STYX guitarist/vocalist], and he said 'No.' I don't know why; it makes no sense to me. "We owe the fans who made us what we are today — rich, successful human beings — one last opportunity to experience Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp, when he's available, to come out there and see 'em," he continued, referring to "The Three Stooges", one of the most successfully comedy acts in history. "It's not in my hands. I have no ax to grind. I have no hatchets to bury. I have nothing. I wanna go out and do it. It's not me. So, please send your cards and letters to the appropriate address." DeYoung co-founded STYX as a teenager alongside his neighbors Chuck and John Panozzo in the early 1970s. James Young joined shortly after that, with Shaw coming on board in 1975. Three years ago, Shaw likened STYX's relationship with DeYoung to a divorce. "You get married when you're young and everything's rosy," he told "The Big Interview". "Then, as you start to get a little older, you realize you didn't have that much in common and then you go through a tough divorce… We still have songs that we co-wrote together, and those are our children, and we've managed to find a way to keep those things in play." Shaw went on to say that he is content to let the past remain in the past, choosing instead to surround himself with positivity as he enters the next part of his career. He continued: "Personality-wise, at this stage in my life, I want to be happy. I want to be around people who love me and that have my best interest at heart, and I don't have to fight with. There's just not enough years left that I would want to risk not having that again." DeYoung will release his final studio album, "26 East, Vol 2", on June 11 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Lady Gaga postpones ‘Chromatica Ball’ tour once more

The tour moves to 2022

Lady Gaga has postponed her ‘Chromatica Ball’ world tour until 2022.

A message from Gaga to fans read: “While some parts of the world are moving quickly to open up, others are not yet ready.

“So until we can confirm all global dates, we have to postpone The Chromatica Ball shows to the summer of 2022.”

As noted on Variety, the message was sent to fans via an email from TicketMaster which explained details of the latest cancellation to fans.

Whilst the ticketing site clarified that tickets would automatically be valid for the rescheduled 2022 events, there was no news given on the rescheduled dates. News on these are expected soon.

The tour was initially postponed from 2020 to 2021 following the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

“The Chromatica Ball is officially moving to Summer 2021,” Gaga wrote last year, announcing the new dates. “We’ve been working hard to figure out the safest and soonest way to bring this show to you, but most importantly want everyone to be healthy and able to dance together at the shows as we always have.”

Reviewing ‘Chromatica’, NME wrote: “On ‘Chromatica’ Gaga has fully embraced creating a pure pop album. The record is littered with catchy choruses and glossy production – but it goes deeper than that. ‘Chromatica’ is “about healing and it’s about bravery,” she explainedbefore the album came out, adding: “sound is what healed me in my life period, and it healed me again making this record”.

“You can certainly hear that. From the exhilarating melodies to the positive, hope-filled lyrics, ‘Chromatica’ is a celebration – and a well-deserved one at that.”

Last month (May 28), Gaga announced a special 10th anniversary release of her second album, ‘Born This Way’.

The record, which features six new takes on the album’s tracks by artists who are representative of the LGBTQIA+ community, will be released on June 18. The first release from the record is ‘Judas’, which has been reimagined by New Orleans rapper Big Freedia.

While other collaborators will be revealed in the coming weeks, the tracklist promises fresh remixes of ‘Highway Unicorn’, ‘You & I’, ‘Marry the Night’, ‘Born This Way’ and ‘The Edge of Glory’.

You can pre-order the new record here.

More than any other band, DECAPITATED provided the jolting dose of energy that death metal sorely needed at the beginning of the 21st century. Following in the footsteps of the likes of NILE and HATE ETERNAL, the Poles made the genre vital and creative again, becoming one of its greatest mainstream metal crossover success stories in the process. What more recent converts might not be aware of is how absurdly talented Vogg and his brother, the late, great Vitek, were from the very start. "The First Damned" compiles the two demos DECAPITATED made prior to signing with Earache Records (1997's "Cemeteral Gardens" and 1998's "The Eye of Horus") and the start of their rapid ascent. And while the sonic values on display are a little more primitive than long-term fans will be used to, there is simply no denying that this rips insanely hard from start to finish. Significantly, Vitek was a brain-mangling 12-years-old when some of these songs were recorded. Meanwhile, the obvious and irresistible chemistry between the drummer and his older brother (Vogg was a near-decrepit 15 at the same time) was an unfuckwithable musical backbone. Eschewing the usual remixing and remastering tactics, Vogg has left the demos in their original state, only making major changes to the artwork, not least because "The First Damned" has never appeared on vinyl before and deserves to look its best. Sonically speaking the likes of "Blessed" and "Way to Salvation" are plainly rougher and rawer than their eventual studio album incarnations, but as is so often the case, the vibe and energy driving these early, aspirational recordings makes its own magic. It's particularly noticeable on "Ereshkigal", one of two songs here that never made the cut for a later album. Infused with the spirit and ragged fury of old-school death metal, but played with the excitable intensity that only adrenalin-fueled teenagers can generate, it's a sublime snapshot of the birth of a genuinely significant and enduring musical force, all powered breathlessly along by a 12-year-old drummer with percussive skills that shamed countless musicians three or four times his age. No wonder Vogg has approached this reissue with such care and respect. This is not just the opening chapter in the story of a death metal band: it's a proud salute to a fallen comrade, and a celebration of the timeless power of fiery and fearless youth.

IDLES are set to release their documentary, Don’t Go Gentle, in cinemas next month.

A synopsis of the film reads: “Don’t Go Gentle captures the 10 year journey of IDLES’ struggle, grief and moving determination. Exploring their vulnerabilities through their experience, lyrics and sound, we learn the reasons why these five individuals have connected with legions of people across the world. We see just how that relationship unfolds in the most courageous and positive of human ways.

“In a time when the ground is shifting beneath our feet, where open communication and truthful reflection are more vital than ever, we journey with lead singer Joe Talbot and the band as they tear across stages, knocking down stereotypes, empowering fans to talk about mental health and the realities we may not feel comfortable to speak about.”

NME’s four star review of the film said: “Don’t Go Gentle, created by the AF Gang themselves, tracks the journey of the band, the community that runs alongside them, and how music can forge togetherness like little else…”

Don’t Go Gentle hammers home some very worthwhile lessons: social media isn’t always toxic, there is room for community as well as division online, and bands can still change your life – this one in particular.”

Last month (May 27), it was announced that IDLES will perform at next year’s Primavera Sound Festival. The Barcelona-held event is set to return next year for its 20th anniversary after the 2020 edition was cancelled earlier this month due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Primavera confirmed the first 100 acts for the 2021 line-up, announcing that the likes of The Strokes, Tame Impala, Gorillaz, FKA twigs and Tyler, the Creator will perform next year between June 2-6.

A new trailer for Mary J. Blige’s My Life documentary has been released.

The film is directed by Oscar-winner Vanessa Roth. It is an exploration of Blige’s milestone 1994 album of the same name.

Watch the trailer for the documentary below:

“’My Life’ is probably my darkest album at one of the darkest times I’ve had,” Blige says in the emotional trailer. “Most of the time I was just depressed and didn’t want to live.”

She added: “I had it all inside and I was able to sing it and write it, and I didn’t know that so many people felt the same way.”

The triple platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated album addressed Blige’s experiences with abuse, mental health issues and addiction. The documentary will be released to coincide with the 25th anniversary of ‘My Life’. It includes footage of Blige performing the album live for the first time. Interview with early collaborator Sean “Diddy” Combs, as well as Alicia Keys and actress Taraji P. Henson also feature.

According to the official log line, Blige “reveals the demons and blessings that inspired the record and propelled her from the soul-crushing world of New York’s housing projects to international stardom” in the documentary.

Both Blige and Combs are executive producers on the film, with Quincy Jones serving as executive music producer.

Blige will next appear on screen as jazz powerhouse Dinah Washington in Aretha Franklin biopic Respect. Jennifer Hudson co-stars as the Queen of Soul herself.

My Life will be released via Amazon Prime Video on June 25, 2021.
