Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has criticised Donald Trump, describing him as “desperate to win” in a bid to ”keep himself out of prison and to avoid bankruptcy”.

The singer made the comments during a new interview with The Sunday Times, following the recent release of the band’s 12th studio album ‘Dark Matter’.

During the discussion, Vedder went on to recall the inspiration behind the song ‘Wreckage’ – adding that the lyrics to the song emerged as part of a discussion about the former US President.

“There is a guy in the United States who is still saying he didn’t lose an election, and people are reverberating and amplifying that message as if it is true,” he told the outlet, going on to make reference to the former President’s highly publicised arrest and his being charged in four criminal cases.

“Trump is desperate. I don’t think there has ever been a candidate more desperate to win, just to keep himself out of prison and to avoid bankruptcy. It is all on the line, and he’s out there playing the victim — ‘at least they’re doing this to me, because if not, they would be doing it to you’ — but you haven’t falsified your tax records.

“You don’t have classified information in your basement. So the song is saying, let’s not be driven apart by one person, especially not a person without any worthy causes.”

At time of writing, Trump is accused of falsifying internal business records. This was allegedly as part of a scheme to quash stories that he thought could hurt his presidential campaign in 2016 (via Sky News). He is accused of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. If found guilty, the offence is punishable by up to four years in prison – although it’s unclear if the former president is likely to face jail time.

Later in the interview with Sunday Times, Vedder was asked if he thought Trump’s time was on the way out, to which he responded: “I can’t wait. Most thoughtful people are going through a bit of PTSD about it now.”

This is far from the first time that the iconic ‘90s singer has used his platform to take aim at Trump. On Pearl Jam’s 2020 album ‘Gigaton’, the song ‘Quick Escape’ saw the frontman describe a devastated planet and recall “the lengths we had to go to then/To find a place Trump hadn’t fucked up yet”.

Later that year, he also faced backlash from some Republicans for a poster, which showed the White House in flames and a bald eagle pecking at a skeleton that some thought depicted Trump.

As highlighted by Blabbermouth, Pearl Jam also called out Trump’s administration for its lack of leadership during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“There’s been no clear messages from our government regarding people’s safety and our ability to go to work,” the band said. “Having no examples of our national health department’s ability to get ahead of this, we have no reason to believe that it will be under control in the coming weeks ahead.”

NME gave Pearl Jam’s latest album ‘Dark Matter’ a glowing four-star review, and praised it as “some of their strongest work in recent memory”.

“For those longing for the charismatic songwriting that first put the band on the map over three decades ago, ‘Dark Matter’ will come as a pleasant surprise,” it read. “Not only does it showcase Pearl Jam reclaiming the charm that first made them a force to be reckoned with back in 1991, it comes alongside some of their most impressive musicianship yet, as well as a determination to take risks after years of playing it safe.”

Donald Trump mixes up Jimmy Kimmel and Al Pacino in weird rant

The Biden-Harris campaign has described Trump as “feeble and confused”

Donald Trump has been mocked for confusing presenter Jimmy Kimmel with Al Pacino.

Earlier this week on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the chat show host took a brand-new jab at the former president by jokingly describing the alleged hush money paid to adult star Stormy Daniels as a “legal expense”.

Trump quickly took to social media to fire back at Kimmel, but in the process of doing so, managed to confuse the Oscars host with acting legend Al Pacino in an error-filled rant.

“Stupid Jimmy Kimmel, who still hasn’t recovered from his horrendous performance and big ratings drop as Host of The Academy Awards, especially when he showed he suffered from TDS, commonly known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, to the entire World by reading on air my TRUTH about how bad a job he was doing that night, right before he stumbled through announcing the biggest award of all, ‘Picture of the Year’,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He continued: “It was a CLASSIC CHOKE, one of the biggest ever in show business, and to top it off, he forgot to say the famous and mandatory line, ‘AND THE WINNER IS’. Instead he stammered around as he opened the envelope. Supposedly his wife, and even management, begged him not to do it, “DON’T READ HIS TRUTH, JIMMY, PLEASE DON’T DO THIS,” they said. He was made to look like a FOOL, which he is, and at the same time go down in Television History as the WORST HOST EVER OF THE ONCE VAUNTED ACADEMY AWARDS!”

While Kimmel was the host of the 96th Academy Awards, he did not announce the Best Picture award at the ceremony. That role went to The Godfather star and Oscar winner Al Pacino. The actor declared Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer as the winner in somewhat stilted fashion, but later explained that his uncertainty was caused by a change to the show’s format.

Trump was also wrong to claim that the Oscars suffered a “big ratings drop”, with the ceremony actually increasing its viewing figures for the third year running. Reviews of Kimmel’s performance as host were also highly positive.

The Biden-Harris campaign was quick to mock Trump’s multiple blunders, calling the 77-year-old “feeble and confused”.

This isn’t the first altercation between Trump and Kimmel. During this year’s Oscar ceremony, the chat show host fired back at the former president’s online criticism of him, quipping: “It’s it past your jail time?”

Kimmel was referring to Trump’s highly publicised arrest and the four criminal charges he is currently facing.

Dwayne Johnson says he won’t be endorsing Joe Biden in upcoming US election

“Am I happy with the state of America right now? Well, that answer’s no”

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has said we won’t be endorsing President Joe Biden in the upcoming US elections.

Previously, Johnson endorsed Biden in his first contest with former US President Donald Trump four years ago, saying he had “compassion, heart, drive and soul.”

In a post in 2020, Johnson wrote: “As a political independent and centrist for many years, I’ve voted for Democrats in the past and as well as Republicans,” Johnson wrote in his message.

“In this critical election, I believe Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the best to lead our country, and as my first ever (public) Presidential endorsement, I proudly endorse them for the presidential office of our United States.”

“Progress takes courage, humanity, empathy, strength, grit, kindness and respect,” he added. “Being KIND & RESPECTFUL to one another will always matter.”

However, now in an interview with Fox News yesterday (April 5), Johnson did not endorse Biden for the upcoming presidential elections taking place in November.

He said: “Am I going to do that again this year? That answer’s no. I realise now going into this election, I will not do that.”

He continued:  “Am I happy with the state of America right now? Well, that answer’s no. Do I believe we’re gonna get better? I believe in that – I’m an optimistic guy. And I believe we can do better.

“The endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was what I thought was the best decision for me at that time. I thought back then, when we talked about, ‘Hey, you know, I’m in this position where I have some influence,’ and it was my job then … to exercise my influence and share … who I’m going to endorse.”

Johnson also said his “goal is to bring this country together” but said he would “keep my politics to myself”.

“It is between me and the ballot box,” he said. “Like a lot of us out there, not trusting of all politicians, I do trust the American people and whoever they vote for that is my president and who I will support 100%.”

Last year, Johnson revealed that he has been approached several times to run for US president.

The Black Adam actor revealed on Trevor Noah’s new podcast, Why Now?, that a 2021 poll of 30,000 American adults led to him being contacted about his interest in running for presidency at the end of 2022.

“I was really moved by that,” Johnson said. “I was really blown away and I was really honoured.” The former WWE wrestler added, “I’ll share this little bit with you: at the end of the year in 2022, I got a visit from the parties asking me if I was going to run, and if I could run.”

“It was a big deal, and it came out of the blue,” he continued. “It was one after the other, and they brought up that poll, and they also brought up their own deep-dive research that would prove that should I ever go down that road [I’d be a real contender]. It was all very surreal because that’s never been my goal. My goal has never been to be in politics. As a matter of fact, there’s a lot about politics that I hate.”

This isn’t the first time Johnson has been mentioned in association with the presidential run. Not only did his sitcom, Young Rock, centre around himself running for president, but he also told Variety that the 2024 presidential campaign was “a realistic consideration”.

Johnson also responded to the supportive poll on X/Twitter: “I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club – but if it ever happens it’d be my honour to serve you, the people.”

John Oliver hits out at Donald Trump’s “cash-grab” merch sales

“That is a man who talks nonstop about how he’s one of the richest men on Earth, begging strangers for money”

John Oliver has hit out at Donald Trump for a series of merchandise sales that he has described as “cash grabs”.

In a segment on his show Last Week Tonight With John Oliver on HBO, Oliver took aim at the former President for his sale of a range of items, including Bibles and mugshot t-shirts, in order to help with his list of legal bills.

Oliver mentioned in particular a mini speaker which bears Trump’s likeness, and which he quipped “I assume is way too loud and never dies”, as well as a gold earbuds case.

“You know how you can never tell which Airpods are yours and which are your friends’, because all the cases look the same?” he asked. “Well, if you get these, you lose all your friends instantly – problem solved.”

Oliver outlined the legal battles that Trump is fighting, saying: “Between the E. Jean Carroll defamation judgment and New York State’s fraud case, he’s on the hook for over half a billion dollars, but even that doesn’t capture the full extent of the financial damage.”

“Apparently since leaving office, he spent more than $100 million on legal bills alone, which averages more than $90,000 a day, none of it paid for with his own money,” Oliver added.

“In fact, a lot has come from his supporters because he’s repeatedly used his legal troubles as a pretext to ask for donations, including this plea on Tuesday.”

Oliver showed a plea video from Trump to his supporters asking for cash donations.

“That is a man who talks nonstop about how he’s one of the richest men on Earth, begging strangers for money in a hostage video that looks like it was filmed in a house haunted by the world’s tackiest ghosts.”

The comedian went on to suggest that donations from supporters will not be able to cover the full extent of Trump’s legal bills, but pointed out that the initial public offering of Trump’s social media platform Truth Social.

Since starting to be traded last week, Truth Social’s stock has surged and has a current market capitalisation of approximately $ billion (£6.4billion) (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Earlier this year, Oliver turned his fire on Elon Musk, accusing him of having “thin skin” after the businessman lashed out when the comedian made fun of him on his show.

‘Halo’ composer running for Congress, will support Trump in Presidential Election

“I never wanted to be a politician and I still don’t”

Marty O’Donnell, the composer of Halo and Destiny, has announced he is running for a seat in the United States Congress.

Made up of 435 elected representatives from across the United States as well as 100 senators, the US Congress creates legislation for the federal government, and has an important role in military spending, borrowing money and creating post offices.

However O’Donnell is better known for creating the soundtracks to several Bungie games, including the Halo trilogy, Destiny and Oni. He left the company in 2014 to co-found his own studio Highwire Games and in 2020 sued Microsoft for unpaid wages.

Over the weekend, O’Donnell announced his decision to run for a seat in Congress, hoping to represent the third congressional district in Nevada.

In a statement shared on social media, O’Donnell wrote: “I never wanted to be a politician and I still don’t. I’ve had two successful careers and I was ready to retire and spend more time with my family – which I’ve done for the past 3 years.”

“I’m tired of seeing the leaders of our country being influenced by the toxic divisions that are tearing apart our families and society,” he continued. “It’s time for me to step up and do my civic duty. To give back and try and change things for the better. If not me, who? If not now, when?”

He went on to blame the rising cost of living on “gig corporate executives and big union bosses. Big tech, big pharma, big media, big whatever – all trying to control big government in Washington DC. This needs to stop,” before turning his attention to immigration and the erosion of “traditional family values”.

“I’m ready to go to DC and see if I can help bring back sanity and civility to the public discourse on these issues and all the other issues that face our great nation. We need bold leaders for such a time as this,” he added.

In a separate interview with Venturebeat, O’Donnell said he would be backing Donald Trump in the Presidential Elections later this year. “America enjoyed a secure border and no inflation in the Trump administration four years ago,” he claimed. “I have voted for President Trump twice and will vote for him a third time this fall. But no matter who is elected this November, if I have the privilege to serve, I plan to work with them. That’s what voters expect and that’s what I’ll do.”

O’Donnell still has to officially file his intention to run, and must be chosen in the Republican primary in June ahead of six other more experienced candidates before facing current Democrat Congress member Susie Lee in November.

In other news,  EA are still going ahead with their Star Wars strategy game despite lay-offs and the cancellation of their Mandalorian-inspired first-person shooter.

Kristen Stewart reveals how Donald Trump inspired her to come out

“Of course he had to weigh in on my tarring and feathering”

Kristen Stewart has revealed how Donald Trump’s tweets about her break-up with Robert Pattinson inspired her to come out as gay.

In February 2017, Stewart hosted Saturday Night Live and took the opportunity to hit back at the then-President of the United States, who had been highly critical of her on social media.

“Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re probably really not going to like me now,” she said during her opening monologue. “Because I’m hosting SNL and I’m, like, so gay, dude.”

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Stewart said the decision to come out on national television was a “very shoot-from-the-hip moment”, explaining that it came about after the SNL team suggested using Trump’s comments in her monologue.

In Trump’s tweets, the former president accused her of cheating on her ex-boyfriend and Twilight co-star Pattinson, and encouraged him not to get back with her.

“He’s mad at me for cheating on my boyfriend?” she said. “Little does he know…” She then took the opportunity to come out as gay.

Stewart went on to say that she wasn’t surprised to see Trump commenting on her relationship. “Of course he had to weigh in on my tarring and feathering. It’s like, ‘What is this 20-year-old who has no idea about life doing to this man?’” she said, adding: “He’s such a little baby… Fuck you, bitch!”

Trump’s remarks about Stewart came in 2012 after the actress was seen kissing Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders while she was still dating Pattinson, which she later publicly apologised for.

Elsewhere in the interview, Stewart said that she is tired of people talking about her relationship with Pattinson, explaining: “Rob and I can’t just keep talking about that shit, because it’s fucking weird.

“It’s like if someone kept asking you – I mean for literally decades – ‘But senior year in high school?’ You’re like, ‘Fucking A, man! I don’t know!’”

In other news, the actress recently revealed that she hated making the 2019 Charlie’s Angels reboot.
