Jon Stewart tears into Trump and Biden during ‘Daily Show’ return

“They’re both stretching the limits of being able to handle the toughest job in the world”

Jon Stewart heavily criticised Donald Trump and Joe Biden during his return to The Daily Show last night (February 12).

Both the president and former president came in for rough treatment over the 2024 presidential race.

Taking aim at Biden over Robert Hur’s recent report which described the US President as an “elderly man with a poor memory” and his subsequent press conference, Stewart said: “So Joe Biden had a big press conference to dispel the notion that he may have lost a step and, politically speaking, may have lost three to four steps…”

He also showed clips of Trump and the former president’s family being deposed and similarly not being able to recall some basic facts.

Stewart went on to say: “These two candidates, they are both similarly challenged. And it is not crazy to think that the oldest people in the history of the country to ever run for president might have some of these challenges … We’re not suggesting neither man is vibrant, productive or even capable.

“But they’re both stretching the limits of being able to handle the toughest job in the world. What’s crazy is thinking that we’re the ones, as voters, who must silence concerns and criticisms. It is the candidates’ job to assuage concerns, not the voters’ job not to mention [them] … We have two candidates who are chronologically outside the norm of anyone who has run for the presidency in the history of this country – breaking the record that they set!”

He also argued, the threat of Trump to the Democrats and democracy are all the more reason his opponent ideally ought to be somebody stronger than Biden.

Stewart added: “Look, Joe Biden isn’t Donald Trump. He hasn’t been indicted as many times, hasn’t had as many fraudulent businesses or been convicted in a civil trial for sexual assault or been ordered to pay defamation charges or stiffed blue collar tradesman.”

He went on to refer to Biden’s recent TikTok video about chocolate cookies. “The stakes of this election don’t make Donald Trump’s opponent less subject to scrutiny. It actually makes him more subject to scrutiny. If the barbarians are at the gate, you want Conan [the Barbarian] standing on the ramparts, not chocolate chip cookie guy,” he said.

Stewart’s comments come after Judd Apatow also roasted the pair in a recent speech at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards.

Judd Apatow has roasted US presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump in a speech at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards.

The director and writer, who is behind the likes of The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, was hosting the ceremony on Saturday night (February 10) when he took aim at the 2024 presidential race.

“This year’s DGAs were voted for by you and your peers,” he began to the audience. “I swear to God if this is the only time you vote this year, you can all go fuck yourselves.

“We need this industry to encourage people to vote. We have a presidential election coming up between a guy old enough to have met Hitler and a guy who just wishes he had.”

During his monologue, Apatow also took aim at recent Golden Globes host Jo Koy, whose own monologue drew a largely negative reception last month.

“I’d like to thank Jo Koy for lowering the bar for me,” Apatow quipped. “I’d like to thank the Directors Guild who had the courage to hire a white Jewish man to host this ceremony.”

Apatow has hosted the ceremony multiple times before, and during last year’s event mocked Tom Cruise over his height and his involvement in Scientology.

“Every time he does one of these new stunts, it does feel like an ad for Scientology,” he said. “I mean, is that in Dianetics? Because there’s nothing about jumping off a cliff in the Torah.”

This year’s DGA Awards saw Christopher Nolan walk away with the top prize of Feature Film for his work on Oppenheimer, cementing him as the frontrunner to take the Oscar next month. Celine Song also won the First-Time Feature Award for Past Lives.

In other US politics news, Trump has claimed he made Taylor Swift “so much money” in her career, which comes after reports that Biden is seeking the pop star’s endorsement to swing the next election.

Donald Trump allies pledge “holy war” against Taylor Swift

Swift has publicly endorsed President Biden in the past

Donald Trump allies have pledged a “holy war” against Taylor Swift in the run up to America’s next presidential elections.

This week, former president Trump tried to play down news Swift was edging towards supporting President Joe Biden after it was reported that Biden is seeking an endorsement from Swift in an effort to swing the next US Presidential Election.

The ‘Back To December’ singer previously endorsed Biden in 2020 through a video message on her Instagram on the eve of the presidential election (which you can see below) and last year she led record-breaking numbers to the Vote.org website after encouraging her fans to register to vote.

Now, Trump has said it won’t matter if Swift doesn’t endorse him because he is “more popular” than the musician, amid reports that his team are vowing to launch a “holy war” against her according to sources (via Rolling Stone).

In an email sent to Rolling Stone, Trump campaign and senior advisor Jason Miller said: “Joe Biden might be counting on Taylor Swift to save him, but voters are looking at these sky-high inflation rates and saying: ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.'”

Trump has taken aim at Swift previously such as when she endorsed two Tennessee Democrats running during the 2018 midterms.

Back in October of last year, California governor Gavin Newson – who is a top Biden surrogate – said that he believes Swift‘s influence will have a “profoundly powerful impact on the 2024 US presidential election.”

He was asked by TMZ about how celebrities might impact next year’s race, he immediately focused on Swift and her influence over young voters, calling her someone who “stands tall and unique”.

“What she was able to accomplish in getting young people activated to consider that they have a voice and they should have a voice in the next election, I think it’s profoundly powerful,” he said.

Swift broke years of political silence in 2018 to back the two Democrat candidates in the  midterm elections and asked her fans to register and vote. It came after she faced criticism for not speaking out against Donald Trump ahead of the 2016 US election.
